Great for the snow
We tested this coat yesterday in the backcountry after a week of storms on Mt Hood. In my opinion the tight sleeves are a fantastic design for keeping snow out of the coat. They are form fitting, but the stretch is similar to a compression garment or a wet suit, which is designed to be tight and make a snow-blocking seal. However its still stretchy enough that range of motion was not an issue. Usually my dog will begin to show signs of being cold after an hour or two, but with this coat she seemed comfortable the whole day. My dog measures 28 in chest around the chest and is wearing size medium.
Nice quality but sleeves too tight
The sleeves are very tight and look like might be cutting off circulation on my lab. I love that it has a quilted belly with full coverage for snow. Perfect for winter, she had surgery and no fur from being shaved so was excited to find this. I ordered a large, she measures 25" long, Chest 32.5" and neck 19.5". Everywhere else fit just snug. I wanted to love this but it's going back.
Our Dog Loves it!
The Ruffwear Powder Hound Jacket is wagtastic! Our dog has never really liked wearing anything. He would tear other items off immediately. However, when we put the Powder Hound Jacket on him, he loved it. He didn't want it off. The stretchy fabric seems to hug him and makes it so comfortable, almost calming for him. It must keep him warmer too, because he stays out longer with it on. The jacket is easy to put on and extremely well constructed. It's a must have for cold weather dogs!
Nice jacket, weird fit
I saw the reviews saying the armholes were tight but thought it wouldn’t be a problem with my tiny-legged dog - they seemed uncomfortably tight even on his very thin legs. It also gapes around the neck and doesn’t have any kind of drawstring or elastic to adjust it. Will be returning.
Warm & sporty dog coat
Great jacket. Warm, waterproof, durable material. Keeps my pup's belly safe from sharp ice chunks as she bounds thru the snow. Easy to put on, stays in place.
Quality gear
Very pleased with the quality. The material is durable, has great stretch for movement and is water repellent. The light insulation kept my short-haired guy warm in his core and dry on rainy days, and I really like how the sleeve length is a little longer than a traditional vest style for more coverage. The longer length of the back provides full coverage with a slighter shorter underside that does not interfere with potty needs. There is a zipper guard to prevent rubbing and a loop at the nape for attaching a lead or safety light, the only downfall being no hole opening if one prefers to wear a harness underneath. Reflective trim is a bonus for those night walks. Admittedly, my little guy has an odd body shape being a mixed breed, so it was a little too long in the length but right in girth, and slightly wide in the neck opening; I was able to fit a lightweight fleece vest underneath for added warmth if needed. Overall, worth the price for the quality and durability and will be purchasing in a smaller size for a more snug fit.
belly insulation makes it
Our dog has a really thin coat and sort-of-short legs making underside insulation key when picking out his snow-wear. This jacket kept him nice and toasty for a ~2hr outing bounding through a mix of trails and snow up to his shoulders. Also really appreciate the bright orange color so we can always keep track of him when he goes in a little too deep.
Easy to put on and great for keeping our dog dry..
The product overall works great. First things first, it's very easy to get on and off. Our dog doesn't love wearing anything more than a collar and it this fits well enough that it took just a minute or two of shaking until he was completely comfortable with it. The piece of feedback has a lot more to do with our dog than the product honestly... We have a medium goldendoodle who is very "healthy"... so he needed a Large to fit across his chest but as far as length goes a medium probably would've been a better fit. It really isn't a big issue though, just a little long.
Redesigned and leg holes are much smaller
I loved the Ruffwear Powder Hound Jacket I bought December 2021. I thought I'd buy another one because I really liked the fit. However, the jacket has been redesigned and the leg holes are too small for my Border Collie who is only around 35 pounds and she does not have big bones. I really like the nice insulated panel they added to the underside, however, I will be returning it. Maybe they will redesign it for next year and I can purchase one then. Hope they add more colors too!
Kept my pup nice and warm
Took my lab/hound mix dog for long walk when it’s 20 degrees out. She has short fur and no issues with the cold with this jacket. The arm hole is a bit small but fits my pup fine since she has slender legs.
