Problems with V1 still there.
I have a V1 (moved to my work house) and a V2 at home. First the good: As a ride experience, it’s actually surprisingly excellent. My previous experience before V1 was a Velotron and CycleOps before that. Anyone who knows anything about indoor training knows that the Velotron was the gold standard forever as far as sturdiness and realism until Wahoo came along. The Velotron had a 55lb rear wheel for flywheel effect for realism but was hamstringed by ancient electronics / control software that the stubborn developer refused to upgrade which interestingly lead to the Wahoo. Wahoo (and other modern trainers) managed to provide road realism electronically with an assist motor and more compact flywheel which is actually pretty clever. That part of the Kickr bike - integration with modern ride / training software and road feel are state of the art and nearly flawless. Also good are adjustability and fit. It’s relatively easy and fast to switch for riders of different sizes. The frame is stable for standing and yet with attached wheels makes it very easy to roll around if necessary. Now the ugly. Unfortunately Wahoo squandered an opportunity to fix a known problem with slippage in its seatpost clamp and head tube clamp. The stem clamp may be marginally better with the pre-insertion compression fix (more below) but I’m still struggling with that slipping seatpost. My 34 experience with cycling tells me that I’m almost at the breaking point of this quick release and yet it still slips. I’ve done the empty precompression solution once and am now trying it again. It’s beyond frustrating that Wahoo had an opportunity to fix this problem for V2 and just decided to ignore it. BTW, the “fix” as the only offering so far from Wahoo customer service, is to take the seatpost out, and compress the release as tight as you can. Leave it that way at least overnight. Then re-insert the seatpost and readjust the clamp. It does help to do this, but I still have a major slipping problem. I read recently to try “Fiber Fix” carbon fiber seatpost / handlebar grip paste. Guess that’s my next play then a nut & bolt that I can torque to higher level than the quick release will be my final attempt. Wahoo should be ashamed this is still an issue.
Wahoo kickr bike
It came well packed and was extremely easy to assemble. The wahoo app makes it a pleasure to ride. My only complaint is there is a firmware update. We have Samsung phones running on 13 and it will not work , which is extremely frustrating. We have to find someone with an Apple phone to make it work. The bike is very smooth and quiet.
Upgraded from KICKR SNAP
My 1st Wahoo purchase was the KICKR SNAP about 2 years ago and I absolutely loved it. My reason for purchasing that model was the price point as an entry to in home bike trainers until I could gauge my commitment. 2 years later, I decided to upgrade to the KICKR Bike and I couldn't be happier. In fact, I am more consistent with riding due to the fact that I no longer have to attach/detach my outdoor bike, it's leagues quieter, no calibration necessary, no checking air pressure, I can turn, automatic incline/decline, and smaller foot print. I would absolutely recommend for anyone who already knows they enjoy cycling. You will not regret it!!!
I love the ease of
I love the ease of set up and getting working. I have a monitor and apple TV and I can be riding Zwift in 4 mins with varying elevation and resistance. The bike is super well put together and I love using it.
Definitely Recommended
My Wahoo Kickr is only a week old and so far I am very impressed. Assembly & setup were quick & simple (but if you are not strong, have a helper). Instructions were easy to follow. I use it with the Zwift App and they interface easily & work well together. It seems sturdy & well-built, so I hope it will last a long time. But since it is new, I can't say for sure that it will. The only 2 things I could suggest to improve the Kickr are that the Top Tube of the bike (in its lowest position) is too high for anyone with an inseam less than about 30-31 inches and I wish I had the option to get mine with mountain bike handlebars and trigger shifters.
Poor quality quick release levers lead to seat and handlebar slippag
I like this bike and it definitely makes riding Zwift more fun. It is stable and very responsive to gear shifts. However, I am incredibly frustrated by the shockingly poor quality of the quick release levers. On almost every ride, the seat post AND handlebars will gradually slide down, which has led to workout interruptions and knee pain. It is almost impossible to get enough leverage on the levers, even after using carbon paste. I had hoped to be able to swap the setup so my daughter could use the bike as well, but now I'm too worried about maintaining my setup. A real shame as the rest of the bike is great. I can't recommend the V1 version of this bike.
Kinks need to be worked out
Using the Trainer Road app in "resistance mode" I started in 1st gear and shifted up 1 gear every minute holding a relatively constant cadence of ~80 RPM, and there is no change in power for the first 3 shifts. I then double shifted to 5th gear and got small bump in power. Each successive shift results in huge spikes in power, followed by a lot of ~5-10% undulations in power until it finally settles in after about 30 seconds. On the way back down, you get the inverse experience. This bike has great potential, but currently fails in anything other than ERG mode training--which in my opinion is a sub-optimal way to train, given that is not how the real world works.
Love my kickr bike
The bike has been fantastic. Assembly was a breeze. Connecting it to Zwift and Systm was equally as easy. It’s construction is solid and stable. I’m around 200 pounds and it provides a great platform to put down watts. The ride feel on Zwift is very realistic, I just wish that elevation was integrated more into Systm workouts. I have two complaints. The seat post is very hard to get to stay in place (seat post paste is a necessity), and the handle bars will not stay perfectly centered. They turn ever so slightly when I clamp them in place. You may not notice it since it is slight, but it does happen. Overall, I highly recommend the bike if you can deal with the price.
Integrated Training at its best
I have enjoyed my new Kickr bike. For years, I trained on an old-school gym style trainer that was very heavy and solid with the heavy fly wheel. The first adjustment to the kickr bike was that it is not as stable. It has taken getting used to particularly when I stand up and really mash on it. I feel the bike could be a little more stable. The thing I enjoy most is the integration. I’ve never trained with a power meter and I like that I can go on wahoo and Zwift and other training apps, and have all of my data integrated. I have trained on my bike now three times and I like it more each time. I would recommend it!
The bike is easy to
The bike is easy to set up and very quiet. The Zwift integration is completely seamless. The ride experience is great. The footprint is compact and the bike is attractive. I have it in my living room and it looks great. The saddle is not at all comfortable, particularly for women. It would be good if they had gender specific saddles and you could choose at purchase, given the price of the bike, rather then force women to buy a specific saddle in addition to the bike. The set up instructions in the manual could be better. But there are lots of resources on YouTube. Having set it up, I am really enjoying it.
