Problems with V1 still there.
I have a V1 (moved to my work house) and a V2 at home. First the good: As a ride experience, it’s actually surprisingly excellent. My previous experience before V1 was a Velotron and CycleOps before that. Anyone who knows anything about indoor training knows that the Velotron was the gold standard forever as far as sturdiness and realism until Wahoo came along. The Velotron had a 55lb rear wheel for flywheel effect for realism but was hamstringed by ancient electronics / control software that the stubborn developer refused to upgrade which interestingly lead to the Wahoo. Wahoo (and other modern trainers) managed to provide road realism electronically with an assist motor and more compact flywheel which is actually pretty clever. That part of the Kickr bike - integration with modern ride / training software and road feel are state of the art and nearly flawless. Also good are adjustability and fit. It’s relatively easy and fast to switch for riders of different sizes. The frame is stable for standing and yet with attached wheels makes it very easy to roll around if necessary. Now the ugly. Unfortunately Wahoo squandered an opportunity to fix a known problem with slippage in its seatpost clamp and head tube clamp. The stem clamp may be marginally better with the pre-insertion compression fix (more below) but I’m still struggling with that slipping seatpost. My 34 experience with cycling tells me that I’m almost at the breaking point of this quick release and yet it still slips. I’ve done the empty precompression solution once and am now trying it again. It’s beyond frustrating that Wahoo had an opportunity to fix this problem for V2 and just decided to ignore it. BTW, the “fix” as the only offering so far from Wahoo customer service, is to take the seatpost out, and compress the release as tight as you can. Leave it that way at least overnight. Then re-insert the seatpost and readjust the clamp. It does help to do this, but I still have a major slipping problem. I read recently to try “Fiber Fix” carbon fiber seatpost / handlebar grip paste. Guess that’s my next play then a nut & bolt that I can torque to higher level than the quick release will be my final attempt. Wahoo should be ashamed this is still an issue.
