A handful of flaws
I don’t really understand why this bag gets such high reviews. After using it for a handful of rides it performs very poorly in many different scenarios for the bag of this price range. Primarily.... 1) As others have mentioned, the bag unclasps at high speeds and things fly out. 2) It rarely stays centered on the bar so it’s always flopping to one side 3) The strip that goes around the steer-tube often unclasps itself and needs to be re-tightened. I hate to nitpick but with a handful of other options out there at a fraction of the price I’m pretty disappointed all around with this product.
Use with caution
I've used this bag for over a year. The size of this bag is great and so is the design... but only in theory. Bag flops around on top tube, it's always slouching to one side. I suppose adding tape to the frame could help with grip. But it would be nice if the product could do the full job on it's own. While I did not ever experience the latch coming open while riding, I did lose items through the bottom flap of the bag (while latch was latched). The elastic is all the way tight and there is still a gap between the bag and the flap where items can fall through. I'll add velcro and continue to use, but keep in mind that you'll possibly need to make amendments to a product you're already spending a lot of money on.
Great bag with easy access.
I bought this for everyday riding. It is perfect size for a quick rid3 around the neighborhood or a multi day gravel bikepacking tour. I’ve used it in heavy rain and everything remained perfectly dry. I love the magnetic clasp. I was worried it might open on its own in rough terrain, but it only opens when you want it too. Quick note about Revelate support. I wore out the zipper on my favorite Revelate bag. They asked me to send it to them in Alaska to fix. I got it back a couple weeks later in perfect condition. They said they would rather fix them than see them in a landfill. I love these guys.
Great bar top bag for keeping items handy
Purchased this as I needed additional space for snacks and other gear as my rides get longer and longer. Works excellently at keeping items handy and within reach during rides, easy access when you stop, and lots of room. My only gripe, if you call it that, is that the bag cover clips closed, and if you take a spill, you might have this open on you. For that reason, I keep my keys, garage opener, money, etc. in my zippable under-seat bag with repair items, and keep this relegated to snacks, etc. It holds itself closed very well in normal use, so don't let that detract you from this great bag.
As advertised.. Perfect
Since obtaining a gravel bike, I needed to retool my 'gear carry' on long outings similar to what one would do hiking or backpacking. Mainly, eating snacks constantly and not needed to stop if terrain dictates. How to do that? Cockpit bag of course and RD is a leader in this field. I opted for the 2000 as it will simply hold more stuff. In winter that can include an external battery for my LED Lenser XEO10 headlamp along with a smartphone, and of course snacks. 2000 calories worth of snacks, hence the name. Solid construction too.
Easy Secure Access
I've owned the small version of this model for 4 years and loved it. Though it got stolen off my daily driver (a cargo bike mostly ridden on the road), I was more than happy to replace it with this larger, 1L model. Holds my phone, keys, and wallet easily (I don´t like biking with these items in my pockets). I use my bike for groceries, getting out, going to work, and going for food - so the easy-close magnetic pouch makes it easy to get to the items when I park/lock up. One thing I recommend though is zip tie it to your bike's top tube and head tube. It will decrease the chance of someone just walking up to your bike w/o tools and taking it.
Ingenious design
I have Revelate's 14L seat bag for bikepacking and it's awesome. Huge, light, waterproof and innovative. I recently dropped a phone and battery out of my bento (top tube) bag, because it was a little small to close properly. So I decided to buy this Mag-Tank. It showed up and its magnetic latch is awesome. One-handed use and it slips right into a secure slot. Its also about twice as large by total space while remaining narrow in back with its taper which should significantly help banging my knee into the bag on climbs. Since it's Revelate. it likely will hold up well for the long haul.
Perfect for my Sony A6000, but a few draw backs.
First, all the products I have bought from Revelate have really been well made. So here are the items on this I don't care for, works best on a carbon frame that has a somewhat flat top tube, a round tube it has a hard time staying on top. Wish they had a hook for your keys. Items can fall out if you lay your bike on the ground. What I like about it, when I want my camera I can pretty much pull it out and shoot when riding and put it back in the pack. plus plent of extra space for snacks.
Returned It
I have numerous Revelate Designs items and they are great. This one disappointed. I used it on a 150 mile overnighter trip. Firstly - it needs 2 velcro strips for the top tube to properly hold it versus 1. It slid around a bit which I think would get worse with more items/weight in it. . I was weary of the top with simply a lip hanging over the front for a rain situation - but then thought it might be a benefit to run cables from a mobile battery in the bag (That's one of the uses for me). When opening the bag while riding it took a bit to reattach the lid. Likely that would become automatic, but it was futsy.
Contents bounce out
I had problems with the latch opening while riding bumps, but also an important piece of my navigation equipment bounced out while it was closed, presumbably out of that weird front flap. I was lucky to be able to backtrack and find it within a couple hours on a remote stretch with limited water resources, but it put a kink in our plans. Other riders told me they have also had problems with the mag tank (see the revelate reviews). What good is a bag that doesn't latch reliably or hold its contents reliably?!! I am returning it.
