First thing I took a look at one these shoes was the tread, they use the vibram rubber that most use these days, but one feature seemed to catch my eye and that was up around the toes there was a bit of extra rubber and one larger tread surface around the big toe that indicated it was for climbing. Looking at the design I got a sense that with these extra rubber features that it would help with some light bouldering and perhaps just navigating more rocky terrain in general while on the trail. Moving on, the inside has a nice comfortable insole. The fit overall was pretty good, most shoes I get are wides if available and with these i didn't seem to have much issue even with wider feet except for the heel area. There were times that my heel did feel a bit too wide for the shoe footprint but it was nothing that caused an issue after a full day for running around and chasing the kids on the playground. The lacing is different from other shoes in that the are all individual loops that the shoe lace runs thru as opposed to punched holes like standard shoes, this seemed to make it easier to get a tighter lace to hold the shoe in place, although my main concern would be how well they do hold up to some wear and tear over time that you may not see with the traditional holes punched in the fabric of the shoe. Round laces have been an issue that i have experienced in the past but these didn't seem to slip like others causing a need to double not, at least not in my initial testing. Overall, this is a nice quality shoe most of my use has been using it as an everyday shoe as well using it for the gym and strolls around around the neighborhood trails. If you tend to gravitate toward wider shoes definitely would recommend trying these on first to see if the heel part would be an issue, in my case it wasn't as big of an issue and didn't seem to pose any problems during my time using the product. And as stated above definitely would like to see how the loops the laces go thru hold up over time being a bit more external that other shoes ive worn and tested in the past.
The insole of the sneaker had a good shape and supported the contours of my foot. It felt off initially, but it was pretty comfortable after walking around the house. My general shoe is more of an athletic sneaker with a bit of give, but the soles here seemed pretty rigid, which is helpful in some environments. Although I did little walking on any significant incline or decline, the grip handled well on the trail. It was a great sneaker (though I may change my sock choice), and I look forward to more days outdoors in them.
These hiking shoes are amazing. Great fit on the trail and they hold up well on an urban walk or on the beach. I love that these are waterproof, because I live in Seattle and there is always some sort of rain happening. The laces are great too. Would definitely buy another pair.
I am not much of a climber, but as a field ecologist, I spend a LOT of time in light hikers and trail running shoes. This is a strong competitor in the relatively crowded trail running/light hiking segment with some approach shoe characteristics as well. I really like that the ruggedized bumper extends further than most trail running shoes, and the gore-tex liner helps the shoe breathe really well. Relative to other similar shoes, they're fairly lightweight (not as light as a running shoe obviously, but you have to trade off something), and offer a good level of support and great grip on wet slippery trails and rocks. They're quite stiff out of the box, but are breaking in well (do not expect to hike 10 miles in these day one out of the box). One point worth mentioning is that the toe box is a bit on the narrow side. My feet are D width, and my toes are comfortable but snug. If you typically wear a "wide" or are on the upper end of D width, these may be too narrow in the toe for you.
Lightweight and comfortable after breaking in with some yard work- waterproof membrane works well. I’m used to cushy shoes like hoka do these offer a different feel- a bit more supportive but roomier toe box. Laces seem long but that’s not a big deal. I can feel some rocks through the sole, not sure it’s a deal breaker for long hikes but worth considering. Style is good too, some color without being loud.
I told an "equipment specialist" in an “Asolo live chat” after mentioning that I had a pair of Asolo Agent Evo GV shoes that I was looking for low hikers with the most support and stability plus being rigid in the arch area like the Agents. An Asolo live chat agent said that the Eldo would be the stiffest shoe. These bend right at the front edge of the heel right through the entire arch area equaling NO support for hiking or light backpacking or even urban wear.
These shoes are sturdy and good for trails. However mine stopped being waterproof after about 5 months.
Great looking shoe, comfortable and supportive. The fit is true for my medium-width foot. I have several of their climbing boots and these shoes don't disappoint
Great shoe. Light weight, comfortable and water proof.
