Don't get me wrong, the lock is good...in theory. The fabric that protects the chain is a great solution for deterring angle grinders, but the problem with this lock specifically is that the fabric just RIPS OFF from the attachment points. Its secured by weak glue, and it leaves the chain exposed to cutting tools. This led to my CO-OP bike getting STOLEN. Overall it is just not something you should bet on. If you are going to buy a lock with a fabric sleeve over it, make sure that sleeve is A STRUGGLE to dislodge. Alternatively, buy a different kind of lock. I am deeply disappointed by Kryptonite's build quality on such overpriced locks.
I bought this for my new E bike which I use for errands around town. I store it in a milk crate lashed to my back rack so it's bulk does not bother me in this application. While the lock is a bit finicky to operate as it takes a full half-rotation to engage or disengage I have found it much more useful in the urban environment as it can lock your bike to just about anything that doesn't move (as compared to a U-lock). I am not under the false impression that it would stop a determined bike thief (I don't think any lock will), but for short stops at the coffee shop or market, this thing works great.
I can pretty easily lock two bikes to a bike rack with this chain lock (frame and rear wheel of both bikes captured, extendo cable for front wheels), where a U-lock certainly could not. This is much heavier than a u-lock of comparable security tho. I was worried how secure this would be but not after receiving it and feeling how beefy of a chain it is
The lock itself is fine, but Kryptonite’s website is terrible. Part of what I bought was Kryptonite’s guarantees, so as soon as I got the lock, I tried to register it and the key number (for free key replacement in case of loss). I used the included QR code and tried to follow the instructions, but it led me to websites that had been compromised. After multiple searches, I eventually found a site that let me register the lock, although I’m unsure whether it was legitimate, but even then I was unable to register the key number. As a result, I can’t recommend any Kryptonite product.
I got this to keep on a bike rack where I work. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to bring my bike inside. I work in a sketchy neighborhood and carrying a heavy lock, plus everything else I need for the day was taking a toll. I got this and so far it is doing its job. I do use a second lock. But this is easy to wrap around the bike rack and get through the bike frame. Folding bikes are a bit more challenging to lock well.
I'm please with it for what I paid. It a bit clunky to lock it, but it seems like a perfect lock for a lower value bike and/or for casual use rather than leaving outside overnight.
Too much chain and lock for me, personally. It was much more than I needed for quick coffee/cafe runs with friends in my area. Very sturdy and heavy. Might work for someone else, but I had no desire to lug around something so big and heavy.
Bought this lock to lock my bike to my Kuat NV 2.0 bike rack. It works, but it’s a little too snug for my liking. Looked at some of the bigger sizes, but they’re thicker also. I’m going to make it work.
People trying to steal a bike these days will have serious issues getting through this one and probably won’t even attempt it
It was to short to fit around the bike fram and tray bike carrier
