Narrow shoulders and arms, but otherwise amazing

The Microlight Alpine exhibits top-quality construction and is beautifully made. It has probably the best weather resistance among its peers, so I was really excited to buy one. In addition, the face fabric is surprisingly soft to the touch for such a durable and swishy nylon and is unlike any other fabric I’ve felt from Rab’s competitors—it’s almost like a soft hug. As usual, most of the brand’s color combos are aesthetically lacking, but the Steel color is very eye-catching. In addition, I really like that the backside is longer and tapered to cover your butt for extra warmth. However, I was sad to find that the Microlight and pretty much every other Rab jacket I’ve tried are cut quite narrow in the shoulders and arms. The arms also taper toward the wrist. As both a climber and someone with a naturally wider skeleton at the shoulders, I have more volume in the shoulders/back/pecs and forearm areas (just average 34C bust). I don’t have the expected range of motion wearing layers underneath, and it feels a bit restrictive in the shoulders even with just a t-shirt. Below the chest, the fit is as expected: loose enough for layers and movement. So, going up a size from S to M probably would not help me. If Rab typically fits you, then this down jacket will be golden. I will sadly have to look elsewhere.

Gorgeous but sizing geared for tall women

I had high hopes for this jacket and was prepared to love it. I first ordered a medium but it was too big all over and I was swimming in it (the sleeves nearly covered my hands when standing with my arms down). Then I ordered the small and it fit perfectly everywhere except the hips. I think that's because I'm only 5'3" so the bottom sits much lower on me than on the model in the photo who is 5'8" wearing a size small. I am so disappointed that I have to return the jacket. I don't think it would be comfortable with the bottom 3" of the jacket feeling snug. I am average weight and not particularly hippy. I would only recommend this jacket to someone tall or very slim.

Great jacket except for the zipper

I have had this jacket for ~4 years. I love everything about it except the zipper. As another reviewer mentioned, it frequently splits from the bottom and after four years of wear, the zipper is nearly unworkable so I am in the market for a new jacket. However, this jacket is much lower priced relative to similar jackets, so maybe that is why the zipper is cheap. Besides the zipper, the jacket is very durable and warm. I am 5'7 140 lbs and have a small, though if you are looking to put a bunch of layers underneath, I would recommend going with a medium (this will help with the zipper issues).

Disappointed .

I bought this jacket as a replacement for my existing Rab Alpinelight that I had bought 5ish years ago. That jacket is still amazing, warm, cozy, in-tact, however, I've grown a bit so needed a replacement. I read the reviews on this coat about how quality had gone down and I hoped I would get lucky with my purchase. Well, the reviewers were right. I'm so bummed. The coat is clearly not made like they used to be. Feathers started coming out the second time I wore it, the fluff is poorly distributed, and the zippers feel like lesser quality. Otherwise, I love the fit, the way to hood actually stays on your head and bigger pockets. Unfortunately, Rab quality has totally gone downhill, I won't make another purchase of their products and will likely return this really expensive coat.

So happy with this jacket!

I struggled for months to find a down jacket that fit me. I'm 5'10 and most jackets were too short. I desperately needed a jacket for an upcoming mountaineering trip. I decided to give this one a chance and ordered a medium. It's absolutely perfect. Extremely comfortable and I love that it has the chest pocket. It also has a small visor at the top of the hood to prevent rain in your eyes which I've struggled with in the past in other jackets. I got the Atlantis color, and it's beautiful. Incredibly happy with this purchase and will recommend to all of my friends.

Great jacket but zipper broke.

Love the jacket and the fit. I have a small. Love that is is slightly longer in the back. It is flattering and warm. Not as light as my ghost whisperer jacket but I wore it recently while camping/ day hiking in the eastern sierras and got into the high 20s. I was plenty warm. Unfortunately the zipper broke and I was not doing anything but unzipping the jacket. Sooo I sent it back for service. I purchased it in 4/2022. So waiting to see on what RAB does with the jacket and I will update.

Feathers everywhere

Got this jacket with high hopes. While it is warm and fits well, it has been loosing an obscene amount of feathers. So many feathers to the point where I’m questioning the quality of this jacket and how long it actually will last. Currently in the process about contacting Rab about this issue. But would definitely keep this in mind before purchasing.

Sizing not for curvy women, color not as depicted

You can tell the jacket is warm yet light and would perform excellently, but the sizing is off for me and the Sahara color in person looks a dingy, brownish/greenish yellow, not the true yellow depicted. About the size - I'm 5'6 with a short torso, 34C, 27" waist, and 39" hips. I'm not ally a small up top but opt for larger sizes to sit over my hips since most outdoor brands I've tried are made for taller women with a smaller waist to hip ratio. There was so much extra fabric in the chest and stomach area but the hips were snug. I cinched it and folded the bottom up about 8" and it looked okay, but that makes the pockets not functional. For nearly $300 it's an immediate return due to the sizing and color. Agree with others that it isn't cut for more straight figures.

Beautiful warm fall color

I'm 5'2 and weight 114 pounds and I ordered a size small. The fit is nice, not too tight and the sleeves are a bit long-but fine. This Dark Butternut color is stunning! If you are warm in coloring and/or an Autumn you will love this color .It is a rich golden brown yellow.

Second Rab brand jacket and I love it!

I love this jacket! I love the red color. The jacket is warm. I like how the back of jacket is a little longer than brands like Patagonia. Between owning this jacket and the Rab Neutrino Pro, I’ve become a big fan of the Rab brand.
