These boots check off so many boxes. Great fit, good support, decent heel to toe rise, protected toes, Vibram soles. And of course, the wider toe box. This is a vast improvement over the first design and some of the problems experienced with them are gone. All in all, the only downside is the separation of protective toe guard from the upper material. Some water intrusion since that happened but nothing like non-WP boots. I just bought a second pair for the rest of the season until the next version comes out. Keep working Topo, some stuff needs to be better, but don't mess up any of the good stuff.
I loved these at first but then I kept using them. They might work well in the Lower 48 they're just not built for the rugged nature of Alaskan hiking. The rip stop uppers have cracked letting in water in even a constant drizzle. the soles have worn well down and have started falling off the shoe as well. The shoe is still extremely comfy (love that wide toe box) but if you're looking for something durable this isn't it.
Loved them right out of the box. Extremely comfortable from the start. Heal stays secure. Roomy toe-box. Stiff enough shank for protection on rocky trails. HOWEVER, the waterproofing while good to start, completely failed by the 4th day of wear in wet terrain. My socks were wring-them-out soaking wet for multiple days of hiking in Denali. I wore REI Gore-Tex knee high waterproof gators and my socks got wet from the bottom up. The shoes were new in May of 2022. Wore them on a few hikes in dry weather to break them in, totaling about 30 miles. Waterproofing began to fail at in the first 20 miles of use in Denali. My buddy who had a different brand he also got at REI this year with a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane stayed dry the entire time. Since I bought them specifically for the wet conditions and waterproofing, in the end they made for a poor purchase and a very cold, wet hiking experience.
These may not be the most stylish boot but are the most comfortable I’ve ever worn. The waterproofing definitely works well keeping the foot dry but lacks slightly in the warmth department in snow due to the fabric on top of the boot as apposed to leather. They feel like clouds of air below your feet and I haven’t gotten any foot fatigue even after wearing them 16 hours. Traction is great with the vibram sole. Highly recommend these. Try them on and you’ll see what I mean.
Size 9 1/2. Wore them on demanding wilderness hike in Linveille Gorge, SC. Lots of elevation change, scrambling on rocks and narrow trails. I would like to have a 9 1/4 because these are very wide. Even though I laced them carefully, my feet moved inside them more than I like. Bought them mainly for the Vibram Megagrip outsoles. They did the job. I almost got a little careless because they gripped so well. Much better than my Altra TMP3. Actually provided some ankle support. VERY roomy toebox. Never wetted out even though I walked in water up to 2 inches deep and stepped in the odd water-filled hole. Feet were warm in sub-40F wearing medium weight wool socks. Will try sock liners to take up sume of the width. I don't think these will be suitable for warm weather. That's why I bought the low-top version as well.
This is my 2nd pair of Topo trail shoes and I must say, they are the most comfortable shoes/boots I've ever worn. No break-in period is required. The boots do very well on icey surfaces and I found that a pleasant surprise. You can't go wrong with Topo footwear. A+++
These were recommended after I gave up on Altra's due to their poor durability. One of the best boots for older feet with arthritis. They are very comfortable, fit well with the wide toe box, and, so far, have been very durable. I am using them for winter activities of hiking, snow-shoeing, and fat-tire biking. They have kept my feet dry and also warm even down to 0 F., as long as I am moving. I think they will be too warm for summer use, so may look at the non WP version for warmer weather use.
These Topo Trailventure 2 shoes really are nice. I was looking for a wide toe box hiking boot/shoe, and yes, these have a nice wide toe box. Score! They are also super comfortable to wear. It's a pleasure to walk around in these things. The stack height is higher than I'd like (just under one inch!!), but it's not a big deal. The tread/lugs are even good on snow. The only negative about these shoes is that I'm not sure they're perfectly waterproof. I shoveled the driveway in them, and they were slightly damp afterward (it wasn't my sweaty feet!). A little snow did get up by my laces, so perhaps a little moisture came in there. It's winter here, so I can't test these in wet grass and on wet hikes. So the jury is still out on how they'll be on wet trail conditions.
Been looking for looking for a new pair of mid hiking boots. I have long been a Salomon user and my wife, who's also an avid backpacker, recommended these Trailventure boots. I was a little skeptical at first because of how wide the toe box is (I have narrow feet) but the wife convinced me to get a pair. my first impression while breaking them in were "whoa". they're so comfy! We did a 15mile hike on the break in period. After the hike my feet were still fresh. I'm not sure about the longevity of this pair, will update once I put in more miles
My wife and I each bought these boots for a fall trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. What a find! We each already have several pairs of Topo Athletic shoes, and are pleased that these feel and fit just as well as the others we've already broken in. We have NOT tried these "on the trail", but expect no issues. We are both retired, so what we need is light-weight, supportive, trail gripping, waterproof ankle-high boots. That's what we have! I'm no longer concerned about the sturdiness of hiking boots, as my backpacking days are probably over. We just need boots that will get us where we want to go, safely, without cramping, blistered feet when we get there. These boots will more than meet those requirements. Try a pair and see if you agree.
