I had wanted a switch from being tied to my smart watch and had my eye on the Core Alpha Traverse for sometime. I found out that model was discontinued, so I opt'ed for the Alpha Stealth version thinking it was some what lacking features I desired. I was wrong! Exceptional watch! Accuracy is high and the features are great. Easy to read in both high light and low light conditions. Compass is a breeze to use as is the barometer- the storm warning works very well too! I laugh now when considering another Gshock, this watch is tough! If you're considering a Suunto, I would highly recommend picking this watch up as an edc.

Display is really dim

I used to have the old Suunto Core with gray screen and black digits. It was great, never had problems reading the information on the screen. Bought Core Alpha for a long battery life. But the negative display is very difficult to read, unless I am in a bright sun, because the characters are medium shade of gray. I have normal vision, but reading even the middle row (the large digits) is problematic. The additional rows (small characters) can only be read in a bright light. The red highlight (as shown on the product photo) is also very dim, could barely read the time at night and not the 1st and 3rd rows. I played with the "contrast" (cannot change brightness, only contrast) to no avail. Unfortunately, had to return.

Solid watch

Solid watch but complicated, because the reason I logged on was to go to the website and get directions on how to change the time. So maybe on me for not knowing my watch. The documentation that comes with the watch is not the best, but it’s in every language. The numbers are hard to see but they won’t give away your position either. Overall, yes I would buy this watch again and recommend to my friends.

Multiple failures of compass

All functions except the compass appear to work, but the compass function has completely failed twice in less than a year. Recalibration does not work and readings are seriously in error. I returned the original unit to Suunto under warranty and after several months they sent me a replacement refurbished unit. Now the compass on this refurbished unit has failed. I would not recommend this watch at all.

Disappointing experience

Huge Disappointment, the watch is deficient in multiple ways. 1- the display is really hard to see and the red backlight is not nearly as crisp and vivid as the product images lead you to believe. 2- The watch set up requires way too much navigation through various levels of menus. Features like the stopwatch and timer are buried in hard to remember locations and none of the buttons are labeled! You would need to keep a copy of the owners manual with you to remember how to do simple things like set the alarm or set a timer for 5 minutes. 3- Here is the big one... the compass feature (the main reason I picked this watch) is really inaccurate. I'm a licensed fishing guide & wilderness navigation instructor, I use and recommend the Suunto sighting compasses to my clients-they are the gold standard for this type of work. The watch gives significantly different readings from the Suunto sighting compass... what is the point of this feature?

Big Dissapointment

A huge disappointment from a great company. The altimeter on this watch was wildly inaccurate. Kept resetting an known altitudes, and still after a days climb in stable weather it would be off by 500 meters! I can navigate better without it!

Lackluster

Light very low, compass hard to use, difficult to use across multiple time zones if alarm is needed.
