Purchased A Second Pair
Short Review: These shoes have lasted 14 months. I work 10+ hour days five days a week. I walk miles a day inspecting fence lines on either concrete, grass, dirt, gravel, or rocky hillsides. I purchased a second pair, though they're the mid top boot instead of this model. I live in Southern California, so it is dry 95% of the time I'm walking. Long Review: - Little, to no break-in needed. Very comfortable out of the box. - Very breathable for an all leather shoe. My feet never felt too hot. - I have flat feet and these have minimal arch. Obviously, this might not work for everyone. - These shoes have a fairly large toe-box. Not quite the size of Keen, but larger than most. - They fit true-to-size as I am a 10.5 in nearly every shoe I wear. - No issues walking through puddles or through grass that is covered in dew/water from sprinkler. I could not do this with my old mesh hiking shoes as it would soak my socks. - Tread held up well. I think I could get another 6 months out of these shoes if it was still summer. I recently have been losing traction walking up hills in the mornings with the heavy dew. I don't want to fall down a hill again so I had to get another pair. - Toe-cap has started to unglue in an area. This is maybe a little alarming as I don't actually "hike" in these. I'm mostly walking on concrete or dirt trails. I'd say I walk rocky trails/areas about twice a month. So I imagine if you're really going off the beaten path these may not hold up. - One of my favorite things about this shoe is that it doesn't look like most hiking shoes. I think this shoe is very good looking and when I'm wearing it for work people don't immediately recognize it as a hiking shoe. It doesn't have so many bright colors, different fabric overlays, or the bulk and aggressiveness a lot of hiking shoes have. This is a large reason why I loved this shoe before I even tried it on.
Only one issue to this great hiking shoe
I bought these hiking shoes from REI in July 2014 and immediately paired them up with Superfeet insoles. That summer I hiked the John Muir Trail. They have performed well summer and winter, and I love the eVent waterproofing which I regard as superior to other options. After 2 years the stitching on the leather toe covering began to unravel on one side so I fixed it with superglue. Now the other side has unraveled (see pictures) so I'm gluing again. If the fix holds I hope to use these shoes for some years to come and am likely to buy them again.
Instant comfort!
I go through a lot of casual hiking shoes and have tried most brands for a season. This Teva was super comfortable right out of the box and it’s loaded with what I look for- eVent waterproofing for real breathability (Gore would also be a plus for me), Vibram sole for traction and wear, and really nice styling! A second pair Is definitely a possibility. Fit is like other Teva’s or most active hikers -up a 1/2 size from street shoes. These have a roomier (wider) forefoot, but not a wide lacing spread.
Teva Fan
I like Teva sandals for their comfort. This Teva product does not have the same level of comfort in the foot bed, but since it's a hiker I didn't fully expect that anyway. I have not had the chance to test the water proofing. I'm a true size 14 and a little wide, and this shoe is a great fit with acceptable width. The insole is nothing special especially at the front of the shoe so I opted to upgrade that with a replacement. The first insole was too narrow in the front of the shoe, so keep that in mind if you consider replacement. Out of the box minimal break in required, and no pain, discomfort, or blisters from initial use.
Poor quality.
I just bought these at the beginning of September and the rubber seems to be pulling away from the toe already. They were recommended by a salesperson at
Arrowood Riva WP
I have tried many different shoes for my very demanding job. I've bought all the major brands with disappointing results. My feet would get wet, stitching would split out, my feet would ache after eight hours. The Teva brand was the latest brand to try. I love this shoe! It holds up well. A little on the pricey side but if you watch online you will see it as low as 120.00. My feet stay dry! I use to have to wear rubber boots but hate that. I'm brutal on shoes. The Riva has held up pretty well. Been wearing them for about 6 months now and that is still a little early for a five star. If they go a year, I will give them five stars.
An old favorite
This is my third of not fourth pair of these Tevas. Three year old coated to right out of box. Old pair are the olive black and the new brown. They seem a bit narrower and not as boxey, which makes me sad. Might feet feel really squeezed. These are size 8 my first pair was a 7.5 but that size is becoming far and few.
When “New & Improved” isn’t improved
I purchased the previous model, the eVent shoe over 10 years ago. They are still somehow in great shape and I hiked in them all over Colorado and Upstate SC/NC. The Arrowood version has a serious design flaw at the bottom of the lacing system. This leads to a hole in the top of the show. My first replacement pair lasted 10 months; the second 14 months, just last the time frame Teva would honor any warranty. While Teva may have less than stellar customer service REI is the best! They did the right thing and let me trade them in on any model. All this nonsense led me to Oboz, my “new & improved” favorite hiking shoe.
Perfect fit, awesome shoe!
I've had these a week and am buying a second pair. They fit perfectly when I tried them on in the store; I couldn't believe it so I walked around for a half hour shopping for other stuff, but they truly fit my foot better than any other shoe ever has. Zero break-in required, at least for me. They're lightweight and waterproof. The sole has just the right degree of aggressiveness, enough dimension in the cleats to give good grip on almost all surfaces, but not so much that they'll collect rocks and mud. Easy and fast to loosen and tighten the laces too. Ruggedly made, and the styling is nice enough to wear with almost anything. Can't remember being more satisfied with a shoe purchase!
Comfortably Wide Cool Weather Hiking Shoe
This shoe has the eVent waterproof liner which is highly recommended although I have yet to put it to a true test in standing water. I have taken them through slush and snow with no penetration so far. These shoes have a nice wide toe box/ball area which is a necessity for me. Once I reached late middle age most shoes pinch my feet and are intolerable. I've had to return several pairs in recent years before learning my lesson. My REI shoe rep suggested Teva when I described my quandary. Although I had only known Teva as a sandal brand, I gave them a try and have not been disappointed. Construction and quality seem excellent.
