My New Favorite Gravity Filter
I have been using a 3 liter filter from brand K for several years and it has served me well but I received this filter as part of a promotion and have used it twice now, it will be in my main pack going forward. The heavier duty bag makes it easier to fill than my old filter (the other is not stiff enough) and since it is not transparent I don't spend too much time worrying about floaties! There are a couple options for hanging or carrying the bag, it filters a liter of creek water in a little over a minute, there was no taste or color left in the water after filtering, there is a backflush syringe included and it is simple to use as well. It weighs a couple ounces more than my other filter but I can live with that. Highly recommended!
A Must Have!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have the LifeStraw peak series this is a gravity water filter system that holds three liters of water per bottle. It will filter up to 666.7, three-liter bottles in total per filter. That is like 2000 liters of water or 500 gallons. This is such a wonderful product to own, completely BPA-free, and it filters out 99.999999% of bacteria including E.coli, and all parasites including Giardia, and Cryptosporidium. It will also filter out 99.999 % of microplastics so you can have trusting safe water to drink. I am so happy to have this 3 L bag kit. The kit comes with everything you need to provide you with good healthy drinking water including the 3 L bag with a drinking hose which is 47 inches in length it also has a clip to stop the flow of water just pinch it closed and you’re good to go. It has a microfilter membrane and a leak-proof cap to store your water! It also comes with the carrying strap, and a backwashing syringe to clean your filter after each use. It only weighs 8.1 oz.s. I would highly recommend getting the LifeStraw peak series kit for any type of filtered water supply needed.
Lightweight, Solid Construction
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've always wanted a gravity filter bag for when I'm hiking and camping. One of the great things about gravity filter systems is that you can keep setting up camp while your water filters itself--you don't need to stand by a river or lake pumping water. The LifeStraw bag pulls this off well with this 3L system. The bag material is thick and well crafted with hefty welds that give me confidence it won't tear or blow out during use, and the included adjustable strap and carabiner make hanging this a lot easier. I also really like that LifeStraw engineered this bag so that you can use it as a squeeze filter: literally just remove the small cap and squeeze the water bladder. This is really helpful if you are trying to get cooking going but don't want to deal with the tube to fill your pot or drinking cup, or if there are no great spots to hang the bag. Another awesome feature is that the filter threading is the same as most water bottles, meaning that you can, in a pinch, screw it onto a standard throw-away water bottle (check out the picture of the threading). Back-flushing is a breeze, too. Included in the gear is a syringe that screws on the filter, and is easy enough to use (just make sure you always back-flush wish clean drinking water!). Filling the bag is pretty easy, but I wish that the opening was bigger. It's still big enough to fill pretty easily, but a bigger opening would be better and would make drying it out after use easier. Also, the flow isn't bad, but it's still a bit slow--that's pretty common for gravity filtration systems so the gripe is minor. One thing you should know: because the filter is on the outside of the bag for gravity use, there's no way to allow sediment in the water to settle out and not go through the filter, which means that the filter will clog faster. Another gripe: I wish that the filter element was larger. Smaller filters get clogged quicker and require more back-flushing to maintain and this would last longer with a larger filter. Overall, I really like this filter system, and it performs well and the versatility make this system definitely a buy. The 0.2 micron filter removes all bacteria and parasites as well as microplastics. It's relatively compact, the hose has a connector to clip into most modern water bladders, and it's easy to use.
versatile and works well
This gravity filter worked great for me. I took it on a desert backpacking trip and was happy with its performance. It filtered water quickly (though I have so far tested it in pretty clean-looking water) and seems durable so far. In my opinion, the biggest benefit is its versatility. - The carabiner and adjustable strap made it easy to hang up while it was filtering. - You can fill the bag and put the cap on to allow you to carry water and filter it later. - The flow control clip was nice for pausing filtration, switching water bottles to filter into, etc. - Best of all, you can use the filter with a water bottle (or as a straw) instead of on the gravity filter. This gives you options for which parts of the filtration system you want to bring on a trip to save weight and space. My only complaint so far is the color. I got the dark gray color, on which the water storage back is black and the hard plastic pieces are dark gray. I don’t care about the aesthetics of my water filters, but the dark color makes it hard to see the contents of the bag. I could see water levels well enough, but I’d prefer a transparent reservoir so that I can see what color the water is and if it has any large particles, etc. But I don’t know if you could make this lightweight material clear or if there is a tradeoff that needs to be considered.
easy peasy drinkable water
This was my first experience with a gravity water filter system. It really doesn't get any easier than this to filter water for drinking. I chose the 3 liter size because it was a reasonable size for backpacking. Once I figured out how to connect everything and got it filled and hanging, it does all the work. It takes around two to three minutes to fill a Nalgene, but the beauty is you can do other chores while making water, just don't get too distracted and let it overflow from your container. My only criticism is that I did detect a plastic taste in some of the uses. Flushing it seemed to help diminish this taste. I might be sensitive to this taste, since I struggle with that using a Camelback or a dromedary water bag. Something about the pliable containers I imagine. Otherwise, super light, easily packed and easy to use once configured.
Great features!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very impressed with the LifeStraw Peak Series Compact Gravity Water Filter System, in a 3 liter. For a person like me that goes to the mountains quite often to hike or explore this really comes in handy. I like that this filters out the bad water from the river and also removes 99.9 % of bacteria, parasites, and microplastics and provides clean fresh tasting water. The bag is made of durable silicone, leak proof cap and comes with a strap that allows me to hold it easily, the water stays cool. It comes with everything you need including a backwashing syringe to clean your filter after each use. All and all I am very satisfied with this product quality, durability and make!
Best ever
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this lifestraw filtration system to use on our family hiking trips. Every year we hike hundreds of miles and this LifeStraw filter system works best. It has many features that I like. The leak proof design and durability was what drew me to this particular package. It’s the ultimate filtration system that is complete and lightweight
A must have for everyone!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is amazing! It’s a must have for everyone to have around to come in handy when needed. This filters out bacteria and parasites in your water to make it safe to drink from any source. You never know when you could be in a situation to need something like this.
Really awesome system
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had never used a gravity water filter system before and just last week I used it and it was really simple and light weigh. Thankful to have one and the material makes it very compact for traveling love it !!!!

Extremely slow filtering
Just returned from a three-day trip to the BWCA where our party relied on the LifeStraw Peak Gravity Water Filter System for our water needs. The results were very subpar and far below what I expected based on the technical specs and the reviews I read. Despite frequent backwashing per the instructions, the filtration speed was extremely slow--at times taking an hour to filter three liters. This was despite the fact that the lakes we were on were very clear to begin with. I am giving this product two stars rather than one because technically we never ran out of filtered water. But the amount of time spent on filtering was excessive and far slower than other systems I've used. This one will be going back to REI.
