Strange design choices
Decent color and fit but I wish there was more structure to the brim. It’s a bit floppy and flops into my line of sight. I also think that the hanging cord could be rethought. The black cord is elastic and tied to the hat. The ends of the tied part are burned to prevent fraying so they are hard ends and they end up poking me in the face a lot which is super annoying. The bungee/elastic cord is also not very easy to keep even when you tighten it. I’m also not really a fan of the vented top. The mesh vent covers end up slipping up really easily and then you walk around looking like a mess because they don’t look like they’re supposed to be up, even if you were to open them up intentionally. Overall, there’s a lot of little really annoying things about this hat where I’d rather just look for another.
Breathable, foldable shade!
This is a great hat for a number of activities. It's breathable, washable (I think) and foldable while still maintaining it's shape. The easy-to-use loop is great for attaching it to a backpack or just slinging around your neck. It also provides a handy way to hang it over the back of a car chair while in transit. I've used this for gardening, hot walks in the Texas summer, water activities, hiking, backpacking and feel it's uses are only limited by your imagination. It dries quickly and is super lightweight making it the perfect portable shade provider. Good product from TNF.
Great beach hat!
This hat is perfect. Fits great. Not too tight. Great sun protection. I was greatful for the chin strap on a windy day at the Cape. Im getting another one in a different color.
Spot clean only
I love the way this hat looks - brim is not too big, not too small. I loved the purple color. There were no care instructions listed online when I ordered but I figured it was clearly advertised an 'active' hat made of polyester, surely it was somewhat washable. Received the hat today and the instructions clearly state to 'spot clean'. Spot clean only, really? Also, please list the care instructions with items.
Great for long days in the sun
I love that this hat stays on my head, protects me from the sun, and is super light weight!
Very Cute hat!
After trying on many hats to find the right size, fit and what looked good I found this hat. Loved it covered around my face and was sun protected as well, with a string for wearing in the wind.
Best looking lightweight, wide brim, packable hat
700 miles on this hat. I got an old whiteish one and tie dyed it green in boiling water, so idk what the care instructions are it can take a beating. I don't use the chin strap because the hat band adjustable elastic is enough to keep it in place, and the brim is floppy enough to deform before the wind carries it away. After crumbling and boiling and tying mine so much I have added slightly more brim structure by inserting a thin plastic rod, as is found in plastic boning for dresses, into the trim of the hat's brim. Seeing the newer ones in stores, I don't remember mine ever being that stiff so maybe they have updated the brim material. Harder to tie dye that though! I am right on the size cutoff and i find the Small (new and old) slightly too small but the Large definitely too large. Oh well, it's not tight enough to cause problems. Alright so I am not exactly using the Stock version of this hat anymore. Why do I like it? Mostly just because it's comfy in high temperatures, lighter than the competition while having a larger brim, and less dorky looking than any other hat that is nearly as light/comfy/packable/wide brim. It almost looks like something you would wear on purpose. My one annoyance is that being nylon instead of poly, it gets very floppy in the rain even with my extra brim assistance. But poly would be less breathable so I guess that's the tradeoff. It dries out fine though. Maybe my next mod will be waxing the brim or something. I would like to see more fun colors on this hat. I would swap it out if I found one that fit me particularly a little better without a weight increase.
My fav summer sun hat!
Great sun protection coverage on face and neck + Comfy and cute!
Needs a medium
I would love for this hat to work for me. I've read so many positive reviews, but TNF really dropped the ball by not having this come in a Medium. The S/M is WAY too tight, and I swim in the L/XL, in spite of having a normal hat size of 7.5. Two sizes are not enough, they should have done an XS/S, a Medium, and a L/XL.
I recommend this product to fellow hikers out there.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, this is a near perfect hat for a hiker like me. The pliable brim is wide enough and stays firm enough to protect face from the UV rays. The double layer brim was thoughtful and practical in design. It has 4 eyelets that do not provide any airflow, but the inner layer of the brim is fully meshed for easy airflow and the top/outer layer provides protection from falling bugs and light rain. The elastic sweatband feels soft and comfy to the forehead and it helps keep the hat in place while hiking. Finally, the chin strap string is firm enough to be tangle-free. This hat travels well in my backpack without losing its form.
