The speed hooks for the laces are garbage. Oboz cut quality to save a couple pennies on the speed hooks. In just under 50 miles of hiking, the speed hook on the left boot snapped and the one on the right boot completely pulled out. I put hundreds of miles on my Sawtooth II’s and am over 100 miles on my second pair. Bought my son the Sawtooth X’s and this happened on his fourth hike, less than 50 miles in total. Both boots broke on same hike at Clifty Falls in Indiana. Thankfully I was able to find him a pair of Sawtooth II’s online, the old model that doesn’t fall apart. Get the Sawtooth II’s if you can still find them. They are my favorite. Avoid these.
These are my second pair of Oboz, the forst being low-cut hikers. Like my first pair , these did bor require a breakin period. So for i have used them ib wet and dry sand, dirt, decomposed granite and small and medium sized rock scrambles. I have also crossed several streams(nit submerging tge shoe, dut definatly covering the toe box). In all of these conditions I felt that I had excelent feedback for the surfaces i was traveljng on as well as good ankle and foit support. These shoes do a very good job of providing lateral stability for my feet on rutted and craggy surfaces.
I loved my Sawtooth II, so I was excited to see that they updated their look as that was always one thing about the II's I didn't care all that much for. The Sawtooth X look and feel great. My feet seem to fit better in these than the old version. Now I just have to see how they hold up. There are thin pieces of rubber on the sides of the boot over top of the leather that are there for looks that are already rubbing off after only two uses, so that's a bit of a concern. They're irrelevant to the performance but it's a bit frustrating that they'd even put it on the boot if it's going to scrape off right away, especially when paying a decent price for a pair of boots.
I’ve had my Oboz boots for almost a year, These boots are good for the trail, My favorite hikes are to Waterfalls, The problem with these boots when they get wet the bitter is slippery on the smooth rock, It’s like trying to walk on ice and I have fallen several times, Today I fell at a waterfall in front of my wife and lots of onlookers, Too say I was embarrassed was an understatement, Fit is good, Comfort is good, Just don’t try to hike on rocks of any kind when they are wet, As of today I am done with these boots and will be trying a new brand
I previously bought and have worn two pairs of Oboz low cut boots. I loved them. Tough, well-made, durable, comfortable, high qualty. Based on my previous purchases i decided to buy Oboz again when looking for mid-high boots for more ankle support and better protection for burrs and stickers. The new pair met my expectations in all areas except one - the laces. The two earlier pairs had the best laces i have ever owned. The laces on the newset pair are cheap junk. Had i gone into my local REI store i would not have bought these boots because the laces seem so cheap and chincy.
Oboz Sawtooth: very comfortable, look good, can wear them all day, are falling apart in four months. Primary use, dog walking on Santa Fe NM area trails. Sad to say it, these are not worth the price.
I bought in January 2025, but after two outings I can see the rubber edge binding deteriorating from the leather. I'm concerned about the waterproofing now. Incredibly disappointed by the shoddy quality.
First outing with these was a four day back country, very rocky trail in Hetch Hetchy, Yosemite and the rubber rim under the toe cap separated both shoes. I had this issue with the low cut Sawtooth older model one month out of their one-year warranty and was hoping the redesign would better the issue sadly not so. Oboz would do nothing about those low cuts. This never happens with Merrill's and while the fit and trail comfort is fantastic the construction quality is poor. This should not happen with a new shoe.
The soles are falling apart after owning these boots for 1 year and 3 weeks. I have only done 4 long weekend backpack trips with them and a handful of day hikes.
I purchased these boots the end of April 2023. I purchased them because of a great fit and having the features I wanted in shoe especially being water proof. I have worn them practically every day since. I have averaged walking over 3 miles per day so I would estimate I have put about 800 miles on these boots. They are comfortable though they could use a better insole. They were rather difficult to get on and off but I was willing to put up with that problem given how well they conformed to my feet. I am disappointed in the durability. I have only had to renew the waterproofing once which I feel is very good. I am attaching two photos to show one place where the stitching is coming lose and another where the Nubuck has worn through to the fabric. I was expecting at least a year and a 1000 miles out of these boots. I most likely will not be buying Oboz again.
