I have the 40” model and it is very comfortable. However it is quite large. I wish there was a 32”.

Worst possible design

One of the worst purchases I’ve ever made. Rickety, snap together construction. Doesn’t fit Jeep Wrangler 4 doors, just embarrassingly bad design. Seems cheaper than other options but it’s a truly awful option.

HUGE Maybe?

I just installed the newer model (40 in) in my 2016 Subaru Forester. It's massive! Fully installed it I have to move my seats all the way forward to fit it in (thank GOD I'm 5'2). I don't know what to do if anyone taller than me would want to ride along as there is 0 leg room for the passenger. I wish it was 3 inches shorter, it would be perfect then. If anyone has any suggestions or tips let me know! I thought about folding up the mattress when not in use but the legs and the metal bars are somewhat different to disassemble. I couldn't imagine having to install this in the rain. Extremely grateful for REI's wonderful return policy as I am very much on the fence!

Great bed but wish it were lighter & less bulky

I was a tent camper for the past 20 years but wanted to try car camping. I originally planned to DIY with plywood and 2x4s but chickened out since I have limited time, skills and tools. Trailgate’s sale price and the option to return it should things not work out sold me. PROS: 1) Relatively straightforward set-up. The instruction sheet is sewn into the bag. It took me some time to find the right height for the 3 legs. I have labeled them so it should be much easier to assemble next time. 2) Option to use tall front legs or third shorter leg depending on your car’s layout. Since my Mazda5 only has a 3” slant from front to back, using 3 short legs set in 1” increments worked best - lowest setting near the front seats, 1” higher in the middle and 2” higher at the back. 3) Sturdy & stable when fully set up. I did not feel any wobbliness when I slept on it. CONS: 1) Bulky and heavy! My 40” bed is almost 50 lb! Besides the weight, it is also bulky. The entire storage bag which contains the quad-fold 2.5” mattress and the metal bed parts is the size of a small refrigerator! I carry a few pieces at a time to split up the weight & bulk. It would be great if REI provided multiple bags with backpack straps for better portability & storage. 2) Functional but thinnish mattress. The 2.5” mattress is functional and adequate but it is somewhat hard. I recommend swapping it with a 4” trifold twin foam mattress. Overall, I recommend this product due to its sturdiness and relatively affordable sale price as compared to other options. I look forward to using it for car camping soon!

Good alternative to a car build

This is what it looks like in a 2007 ford escape! A lot easier to work with than a car build. Pretty heavy but packs away nicely. The cot is not the most comfortable so we got the exped mega mat to go on top/replace and it fits perfect!

Fantastic option for a truck bed cot

Fantastic product, exceeded all expectations. I was semi planning on returning it because i just needed a quick option for my fiance and i to sleep in in my truck bed. i have never slept better, or gotten more deep sleep while camping, mattress is very comfortable, my finance and i slept on the 40” model, I’m long (6’3 ) but pretty narrow and she is short and small so we fit just right. Really not bad to set up, yes it’s heavy, but packs nicely in its bag. I have it on the lowest height in my covered truck bed. Yes it’s a little pricey but when you factor in the mattress and the cot for two people it’s really lot too bad. No complaints, no squeaking , feels sturdy and like it will last for several years to comes. I don’t remember the last time i slept the night completely while camping and i did several times this past weekend.

Pretty great for the price.

40” Fits inside 2011 Subaru Outback. You do have to put the passenger AND driver seat pretty much all the way forward no matter if you try and justify it to one side or the other. I think it’s better than average tent/ground sleeping experience. However I don’t think the cushion top is particularly comfortable. (Please note my weight and size for reference). One thing to note is the extremely large size of this cot when broken down for storage much larger then an uncushioned ground cot.

Great alternative to DIY

I’ve been looking at getting this for a while, but the price always threw me off. However, when I found one at my local REI in the garage sale section for $50, I figured I had nothing to lose. I sleep in my car often but also need the ability to quickly pack up for transporting others if need be. This platform is very easy to assemble and disassemble and finally gives me the opportunity to sleep flat in my car (rav4 prime). My only gripe is that there’s not a lot of headroom when you’re on top of this, but it does make it feel cozy. Add on a nice sleeping pad, and this is almost as good as sleeping at home.

Sold used item @ full price Idea great quality not

I was sent a used product with dog hair all over it. You could tell the package of the product had clearly been opened several times. Absurd this was sold to me at FULL price. The idea of the platform is great for the fact it’s easy to take apart but the construction is terrible. VERY cheaply made and sold for almost $500. You could easily build your own much cheaper and better quality than this. I’m not even sure how I’m going to return this now. Anyways. I can see why they discontinued this product. I wanted to like it but there is definitely more cons than pros and I can’t believe I was sold a used item at full price.

This thing is awesome

Bought this on sale during the July 4th sale and am so glad I did! I waffled between the 25” and 40” and ended up choosing the 25”, which has turned out perfect. Like others before me, I added a foam topper, as it’s incredibly solid, but I also believe that will add to the longevity of the product. I set it up at home first, and it was so comfortable we all ended up just lounging on it (including my Rottweiler). Would I pay the full price amount for this … I’m not sure … it’s quite dear, but I def feel it was worth it at the sale price (and it’s so well built I know it’ll last years).

Paying for convenience

We bought this as we weren’t confident in building our own platform. It is pricey but we knew we were paying for convenience out of not building ourselves. It did not fit at all in my partners Nissan Kicks. It does fit in my Subaru forester 2015. There is not much storage space underneath but it is solid enough. Im 130lbs and my partner is 140lbs and neither of us felt we were unstable. She did say the pad was a bit too uncomfortable for the price but you can remedy it with extra blankets/topper. Overall, decent but I am still considering building out our own for long roadtrips.

worth it if on sale

I actually picked this up used at what I find to be a reasonable price. Full price I'd have likely been disappointed only because it seems rather expensive for what it is, and the pad that comes with it is extremely firm, to the point where I bought another pad to put on top of it. But, it serves its purpose and gives me a level platform without weird creases or angles in my 2022 ford escape plug in Hybrid electric. I slept on it the night before and after a 50 mile ultra and it was awesome... with the sleeping pad I added...
