[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Quality made material, was fairly easy to set up but took us longer than 5 minutes but not much more time than that. We set it up on a day that was pretty windy and it held up great against the wind. Comes with spikes that are sturdy and hold into the ground well. A good majority of the tent is screen for great ventilation and fresh air and also has a cover that goes over that for rainy days or nights and/or to protect from the wind. Zippers work well. The size of the tent is huge and can easily fit 6 people to sleep. Has a nice wide door and great head room. I highly recommend this tent.
Rain proof so far. Horrible performance in even light wind. It simply collapses. The poles bend in any and every direction lol. I didn’t see any other tent in the campground collapsed but this one. So disappointed. I would never recommend it unless one camps in areas where there is no wind!
This review is for the Coleman Skydome 6 with full vestibule. I have tested this tent in my yard and have camped with it for 3 nights in the NC piedmont. At home it was rainy and windy; up in the piedmont it rained some portion of all three nights, including a two hour downpour. Not one drop of water in the tent or under the vestibule. The REI description states that the tent has aluminum poles; it does not, they are fiberglass. The tent needs side tie-outs, similar to the one in back, to aid ventilation. There are clips that you can purchase separately for this. One person can set this up alone, but for most people it will be a challenge. The secret is to unzip the door and loosely stake all four corners, attach the poles, attach a bottom tent body clip to each pole then carefully lift the frame. Now attach the two paired top clips to the upper most pole, centering them on the crossed poles. Everything will now stand on its own. The fly needs to be oriented on the tent door, tie one of the corner tie outs to a pole clip to hold the fly in position while you drape the test of the fly over the tent. Then you can reposition the tie out that was tied to the clip. Remember to velcro the fly to the tent poles. The vestibule pole is pretty straight forward except it is sleeved and sleeved poles area generally a major pain. Be sure to velcro the vestibule pole as well. Tie out the whole thing. Some people don't and some of those people regret it. This is a medium duty tent and will, I think, become my go-to for all but the mildest weather.
I used this this tent on a 6 day in the woods camping event. It was longer than 5 minutes to set up solo (first time setting up). Heavy rains two days with just the rain fly...which held up pretty well with minimum dripping from the top. The vestibule worked great! There were puddles under the tent that did not leak through. Overall great tent! Looking forward to my next trip (will use a tarp overhead if expecting heavy rains.
I like this tent a lot. I've only used it once though, so I can't speak for the durability. The vestibule is really nice and there's plenty of space and height. If I could change anything about the tent there are two things. One, there's a huge (blue) flap to protect the door zipper. These are typical on any tent and if you're not careful (like in the middle of the night) it's likely you're going to get it caught in the zipper. I don't see the need for the zipper cover given the vestibule. Two, I wish there were zips at the back corners similar to the vestibule. I use the middle stake loop and kind jury rig the rain fly when it's not threatening to rain.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this tent to go camping with our family. It is 4 of us and we found the tent very spacious. We felt like we could move around without issues. Something else that we like is the large vestibule where we could place our shoes and bags to protect the from the dew in the morning. Putting it together could be a little easier but maybe it is lack of practice. Overall is a good option for family camping trips.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Set up and take down was super simple. There is so much space! The rain fly comes all the way down and there was a little porch area we stored things in. My family and I love camping and this Coleman six person met all of our needs. We will be using this for years to come!
I camped with this tent for 2 nights in central Virginia in August. While this tent is very spacious, has great interior organization pouches, and the full rainfly did well in the rain, the deal breaker for me is the awful front door zipper design. The way how the design is, the overlapping fabric flaps get stuck every single time. I was cussing the zipper out at 2am! One other flaw is that it got a small pin sized hole in the floor after the first use. It is possible that this was already there, I just noticed it when I was packing the tent up. Also this tent is pretty heavy, 20 lbs. On the plus size, the tent is large enough to fit a single and a double Camp Dreamer XL sleeping pad with enough room in the middle for an aisle. It is also tall enough to stand in comfortably. If I kept this tent, I could see setting up a double Camp Dreamer XL on one side and 2 camping chairs on the other end.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this and went camping on for 3 nights and the tent performed flawlessly. We had rain a couple of nights and even though I didn’t have time to treat the tent with waterproofing like usual we didn’t get wet at all. Set up was straightforward and take down. I really like that the poles stay attached to the tent to prevent losing them. The rain fly worked perfectly and even had a few small vents on it. This is stated as a six person tent and I’m sure it is with no gear but if storing gear in tent with six people I’d get a bigger tent. Overall I’m super pleased with the tent and really looking forward to camping with it again.
I am a former backpacker and bicycle tourist, now too old for those labor intensive activities. These days I car camp and for car camping, the SkyDome 6 is surprisingly good quality for the cost. Sturdy material, good roomy design, fairly strong/ridgid poles that stand up to intermittent moderate gusts, and good ventilation. For the next few weeks, I am OFF GRID in the Arizona desert. The DARK feature really does provide significant cooling. However, the monsoon season is arriving soon, with strong winds and horizontal rain, and I wonder about the rain protection with the included fly. The DARK 6 design does not have much overhang above the door. I like the design of the FULL FLY VESTIBULE SkyDome 6, and wonder if that fly and vestibule would fit my DARK SkyDome 6?
