This pack was perfect for my needs as a single day trip user. I do geologic fieldwork and carry several pieces of equipment as well as some rock samples. I sometimes pack quite a bit of weight and I am using the pack all day. I was using the 24-liter version, but this 34-liter version is perfect. Much roomier but not too big. The pack is extremely comfortable with its ventilated suspension system, waist and chest straps and shoulder padded straps. Perfect. The pack is also very durable and has many side pouches for my compass, GPS unit, batteries, bug repellent devices and pens and pencils. The REI people were very helpful in helping me choose the pack.
Osprey always makes a great quality, versatile, and comfortable backpack. I've used this for hiking, as well as packing for traveling. I've taken this on multiple week and half long trips to Asia in the past few months as my only luggage. With a little strategy and packing cubes, this can work well as luggage, and fits as a carry-on!
At the last minute i bought my Osprey Stratos backpack for our 6 week , 500 mile, walk on the Camino de Santiago. I was completely satisfied, it held everything i needed and i could keep the weight around 17 lbs which included water. Osprey packs were worn by many on the Camino.
Used for our entire trip start to finish! This holds so much! The family had water and we were able to store extra clothes, snacks and supplies. An all around win and well worth the money.
I used an Osprey Stratos 24 for work all summer (2023) virtually every day. We wore them in chilly and very hot weather and they did a remarkable job of providing support and keeping the back dry via wonderful ventilation. I don't know what year those Stratos 24's were but the lower side pockets were easily reached for water bottles etc. while wearing the pack. Based on my great experience, I decided to buy the larger Stratos 34 as my personal large day pack. Lots of wonderful pockets, same comfortable ventilating back panel. HOWEVER, Osprey redesigned the lower side pockets so, no matter how hard I try, I can't reach the pockets without taking the pack off. Needless to say, using water bottles (or whatever) that are easily reached is now out of the question. Looking at the REI website and Osprey's, it appears they changed the pockets on the 24 as well as the 34. This is one of those time when you ask "Did ANYONE try out some prototypes of this before they went to production??!!" I can't begin to say how disappointed I am as I really loved the older Stratos 24.
I bought this pack to walk the El Camino in Spain, and I couldn't have been happier. I carried nearly 20 pounds in it for over 200 miles and 13 days, sometimes for nearly 10 hours a day, without any difficulty. The quality is outstanding. Highly recommended.
Great day pack if you are your wife's sherpa. Plenty of room. Having it built to keep the pack off the middle of your back it nice, it makes it a bit cooler and less sweaty. The solid plastic frame barely fits in overhead compartments on planes, but you can usually get the door to close. Comfortable hip belt and shoulder pads (which of course makes them a bit warmer). Water bottle holder on the side is hard to use while wearing the pack, on the other hand, the big bottles don't fall out.
This bag is a tank. I fit over 30 lbs of gear in here for a 7 day trip. No other bag was required and the zippers didn't seem stressed at all. There are many pockets to easily get gear quickly as well. The rain proof cover is also an awesome bonus.
Really enjoy this product! Very comfortable and easily adjustable. It is quite large but great storage "zones" for organizing all your day gear. Great water protection, walked in heavy rain multiple days and bone dry inside! Best day pack I have ever owned (over 30 years on trail)
I’ve used this pack for three hikes so far: a 12-mile hike when it was 85 degrees with no breeze, and two under 5-mile hikes with my dog when is was 20 degrees cooler. This pack was comfortable at all times, and roomy enough to carry extra water and a big med kit for my dog in addition to my own stuff. I really like the pockets on the waist belt for keeping dog (and human) snacks handy, but as others have pointed out, you need two hands to zip them up. That, and the far reach back for the side pockets give me a good reason to keep my shoulder flexible! (I reach my water bottle by grabbing the cap’s tether, but I can’t put it back in without help or taking off the pack). I also like the side loops to quickly stash my hiking poles on the go. I’m glad I found the manual for this pack on the support site. The comfort of this pack is largely due to the employees who helped me try on four different packs before I found the one that fit best. I’m going on a hiking trip to Newfoundland this summer and I can’t wait to hike around the big island with this pack
