worked like a charm in the outback of Alaska

I used this bag going across North Dakota , Montana, South Dakota , Wyoming and Alaska. The bag attaches really great on my Velo Orange Neutrino. I have read some reviews that complaint the bag takes way too much real state and leaves to room for light and other items...that was not the case with me but my handlebars were not drop bars so they have bigger room. I also run a generator hub so the light room next to the front rack. I have gone up and down mountains in some pretty fast descents and when the bag is secured , it stays on extremely secure. Setting the bag by following the instructions is key to having the bag attached correctly and once is done, it is very easy to attach and re attach. I never had any issues with movement and the bag was over loaded and it hold a huge amount of weight and cargo. I had a spotting scope and a camera with three lenses , spare batteries and a collapsible tripod on top attached with the closing strip and worked like a charm. I also had six consecutive days of rain and carrying electronic gear I had to had a water proof vessel and this bag as all ortlieb is waterproof so carrying electronics is no problem. The bag is rigid but not the bottom but I took some cardboard and cut a small piece to shape and square the bottom and works great. I did not go on too many rough roads so I can speak of the reliability of the attachment but I am willing to not hesitate to do so. I have to pack this bike in a suit case so real state is imperative to me and this bag packs down really small and well. I you want a bag that is completely waterproof and has an attachment you can count on to stay on the handlebars attached...this is a great bag.

Overengineered and takes up too much space

Once this bag is installed, you loose all your handlebar real estate. The design of the attachment piece makes the bag sit up high which blocks any lights or other gadgets you have installed on your handlebars. And that's assuming you can install the bag with other items installed on the handlebars. The hard plastic attachment that sits flush on the bars is a fixed width, so if other item are in the way of the bag attachment from sitting flush on the bars, you have to remove the items or try to move them to the right or left. However, depending on how your handlbartape and cables are posititioned, that may be impossible. This bag is designed for someone that requires storage over other gadgets, that in my opinion, are an absolute must for safety, such as headlights.

cool design, was skeptical at first

I used this on my 2019 Salsa Vaya 105 for a multi day Bikepacking trip in northern Montana. When I installed the bag I was skeptical at first. How could two cords hold this bag securely?! But it works! It’s a cool design. It’s sticky to learn how to take it on and off but once you do it a few times it’s really quick. I packed my tent, rain fly, tent footprint, camp towel, jacket, sleeping pad, and tevas in this bag. I used the straps inside to hold everything down. I’d usually throw my lunch on top on all of that. I would definitely keep double checking the black cord as you ride and just give it a tug every now and then. I would check it while riding by checking the tension of it across my handlebar stem. If I could move the cord at all I’d give the cord a tug while on the move.

Miss quick release

For a few years I had used an Ortlieb Ultimate 6 handlebar bag with quick release mount and liked it but was looking for more storage space and balancing the gear weight between front and back. I love the capacity of this bag and external straps but it is a pain to take on and off and so I just leave it on what I term my touring bike. I ride the same bike on some short day trips and recently took the bag off because I would not need it for the day and it was a real pain to remove so I will probably go back to simply leaving it on. I wish the bag took the former type of mount that made the bag so easy to remove. I also hate the interior color black and for my 60 year old eyes it is like looking into a cave with no flashlight so I use a bright plastic bag liner to make finding everything easier but do mainly use it for holding my camping and sleeping gear.

It fits my laptop!

I hate wearing a backpack for cycling. With this bag, finally found a great solution for my carbon fiber commuter bike! It fits my laptop and still has room for other stuff. Surprisingly easy to install, very sturdy and its waterproof. Would have given it 5 stars, but, took away a star because its expensive - I got it on sale and the sale price was a better value :) I have a lightweight seat post mounted rack as well, but, the laptop on the lightweight rack with all of my other stuff was not working so well - problem solved with this bag. Its very spacious, very sturdy and is just the right size at my handlebars. For commuting, I ride a TREK FX Sport 5 that has a flat handlebar. True about the previous review and it blocking a handlebar mounted bike light, but, I mounted mine on one of the 2 orange front loops (only need one of the 2 to secure the lid) and I have a small light.

Learning Curve but Great!

This bag was not intuitive to install. It took searching for some youtube videos to get a video I could understand. Unfortunately, the Ortlieb-provided video was not detailed enough to understand. But once I got it, it figured out the bag worked great! I'm pleased with the purchase, it held up great for a bikepacking trip across Switzerland.

Solid and useful bag that rides flawlessly

This is a very solid and useful bag. I did have trouble setting it up initially, but once I had that figured out, had no problems with it on a 450-mile tour. When you install, the levers are just to adjust the initial length of the cord. You only change those when you need to fit the bag to another bike. Then, the gray cord wraps under the handlebar stem, the black over. The trickiest thing is snapping the connector together on the black cord. You connect, and push forward until it locks in place. Disconnecting is also a little tricky. But the system works well. The side pockets are handy and secure, and the bag holds quite a bit. I didn't buy the Ortlieb inner pocket, but it is worth having something to organize what you put in the bag, which is one big compartment.
