Ran them under water in tub for 2min, they work!
Picked these up after a few soaked feet bike rides with big dreams. Haven't seen rain yet, but they breath well for waterproof socks and my feet were a bit clammy after a 40mile push, but not hot. They stayed up the entire time, no falling issues. But, I wasn't pleased without a rain test so I ran them under my bathtub for 2 minutes. My foot was dry, inside of the sock was dry, outside was soaked. The three layer hype actually works. My gut says if water gets in from the top they wouldn't dry out fast, but proper waterproofing overlap will prevent that. I wear a 13 Nike, 48 Giro and the XL fit perfect. Great product!
Sealskinz does it again - Ideal waterproof sock
I purchased the Super Thin socks after being blown away by the Hiking Mid socks that I bought a little over a year ago. While these do not have the same level of padding as my original Sealskinz socks, they are very noticeably thinner & fit much better in my narrow road cycling shoes. And the best part...completely waterproof! I've had a few rainy rides that have put them to the test thus far, but really looking forward to riding with them when the weather turns this fall. They'll keep me out riding when I otherwise would've opted to jump in the car!
Waterproof, not!
Not really waterproof, slightly water resistant. Stepped in water about 2” deep and my feet were wet within 2 steps. Disappointed!!!
Feet stayed dry with waterproof socks.
I bought the Sealskinz for crossing glacier melt on the Timberline Trail. I wore them with my Tevas and my feet didn't get wet and I didn't feel the freezing water! Worked great!
Definitely NOT waterproof
One second in the water and my feet were soaked. Definitely not for kayaking.
not waterproof
Is this a joke? Feet got nice and wet stepping out of a kayak
Waterproof At First
The first creek crossing, about ankle deep, my feet stayed dry. The second crossing, calf deep, my feet stayed dry. The third crossing, water started to seep through the entire sock, not in from the top as I would have expected. At the end of the day they were wet inside and out. So if your expectation is to use them once or twice, your feet will probably stay dry. All day with multiple submersions, probably not.
Dry feet!
Popped the package open the same day for a snowy, slushy round of disc golf. I could feel the cold of the snow get into my shoes, but my feet never got wet. These socks kept me dry the whole day!
Didn't Try in Rain but Not Very Comfortable
I have size 7.5 women's feet and tried on the size small. I did not find them very comfortable - they feel restrictive. Maybe they were slightly too short, but they also don't conform to the bend in my ankle/heel or have much give in the toebox and they are not soft. The feeling is hard to describe but it doesn't feel like fabric but maybe multiple layers of really densely woven synthetic sock with a non-stretchy core, and kinda sticky. I thought I would only really choose to wear them over normal socks if there was an absolute downpour, and I would still be noticing them on my feet in a sensory way. The neon yellow color I really like, though, for cycling and visibility. I did not end up keeping them as I tried on a pair of small Dex socks also from REI with wool lining, and they were much more comfortable, foot/ankle-forming and felt almost like normal socks. There may have been a price difference but if the difference is wanting to wear a sock versus avoiding wearing a sock I think it's worth it. Granted, I did *not* try these in inclement weather so I can't speak to the effectiveness of either sock.
not for canoeing/kayaking
I was looking for something to use on a 7-day canoe trip in BC. An REI salesperson suggested I try these socks - a lot cheaper than $100 waterproof booties. They may work inside cycling shoes but all they did on the canoe trip was to ensure that I had wet feet the entire trip.
