Really impressed by the long term comfort in this shoe. I've used it mainly for day hikes in the winter months here in Oregon, which is mostly rain and snow up in the mountains. Keeps the feet dry and warm for hours on end and the traction has been really good over a lot of different terrains. The comfort is what keeps me coming to this shoe though. It's not as stiff and lacks a lot of the overlays of some other shoes I've worn, which gives the shoe a lot more flexibility and comfort on longer hikes. Little bit of a break in period around the top eyelet, but nothing a good sock can't fix. Love it, will buy again!
Hiking shoe with black boost was desirable but the black paint quickly wore off to reveal the classic white boost color underneath. Rubber sole of the shoe is pulling away from the boost bottoms. The inner lining on both shoes ripped away from the heal after a few hiking trips. Had to sew them back together. For the price, I would not recommend this shoe as a hiker. The customer service was also not great...
We’re so sorry to hear you had such an experience and that they may not have been up to standard. Wear and tear can vary from one individual to the next. We will forward this issue to our internal teams to better improve your shopping experience.
The Terrex Free Hiker GORE-TEX Hiking shoes are a great shoe for hiking. To test this product, I wore them on four hikes with different trail conditions including dirt trails, stream crossings, rocks, steep slopes, gradual inclines, and flat topography. On the last hike I was carrying a 30 lb pack to test foot comfort under weighted conditions. I tested the shoes on all four hikes wearing REI Co-op brand light to medium weight hiking socks. The first hike was on a portion of the Antonovich trail in eastern Los Angeles county and consisted of a dirt riparian trail that had gentle slopes but included frequent rocky stream crossings varying from 1-6 inches in depth. The boots handles the crossings well allowing me to traverse both clean dry rocks as well as wet algae covered rocks without slipping. When I tested them by stepping directly into the stream the boots repelled the water from penetrating into the boot even when I submerged the boot to the laces. While underwater my toes inside the shoe did feel colder but did not feel wet. The second hike was in the foothills of San Dimes Canyon Park which consisted of a short 1 mile loop up a few rolling hills on dirt trails followed by walking through a park consisting of numerous live oak trees and grassy conditions with my dog. The shoes were conformable during the whole experience even when my dog tried to twist, pull, and run me over live oak tree roots chasing after grey squirrels and ground squirrels guarding their burrows in the park. The third hike was on a continuously ascending rocky trail up the foothills along the Etiwanda waterfall trail in San Bernardino. Once again the shoe preformed quite well even over extremely rocky conditions and the only noticeable limitation is my feet felt warm after the hike. However my feet were not warm enough to make me want to change shoes before driving home so I stayed in these shoes both for the hike and to drive. The fourth hike was in the foothills of the Los Angeles National Forest. For this hike I tested the shoes while carrying a 30 lb pack. There was no noticeable change in comfort hiking with the pack compared to hiking without one other then my feet were marginally warmer and sweated. I would recommend this shoe to my friends! I liked the foot support and comfort it provided. My foot fit very well in the size 10 shoe. I liked that the shoe was able to resist water while traversing streams and could handle both rocky terrain and dirt trails quite well. The only limitations to the shoe although very minor are the following, initially sliding your foot into the shoe is challenging with the material used at the top of the shoe, your foot will feel warm after walks, and I had the black colored shoes that became dirty really quickly as seen in the attached photos. Possible recommendations to alleviate these problems would be to offer tan or brown colored shoes to mask the dirt, add more elastic where you put your foot into the shoe, and experimenting with increased breath-ability to reduce foot warming during hikes. I was not able to test these shoes under cold conditions.
There is too much glue between the sole and the upper shoes, it looks very ugly. Also at some point, the glue is missing, so you can see small holes in the front and it seems that the upper can come off easily or water to penetrate inside. At this premium price is not something I expected.
so far i've worn these shoes a few times (hikes in the forest, walks on the beach, and just around town). they are shockingly comfortable and don't really look like hiking boots. if you need a lot ankle support they're probably not the shoes for you, but if you want something that is waterproof, looks good, comfortable, good grip, and can be worn a lot. i would highly recommend. i have not tested it out the winter, but don't imagine it'll be the warmest.
All in all I love this "mid" hiker. I can't call it a boot as it offers zero ankle support, thus I feel compelled to take off one star. That's my only complaint actually. Other than that it fits great, looks great and feels great. The boost offers phenomenal cushioning for your feet without being over the top. Shore up that ankle support adidas and you would truly have the best hiking boot on the planet. I probably average 8-12 miles of hiking a day. I currently own about 5 active pairs of shoes and boots and these are far and away the most comfortable. The continental sole offers tremendous traction too... Great mid adidas, just take that next step on support.
These shoe are so comfortable. I always liked hiking in my ultra boosts but needed something with water resistance. While these will shed water from a few steps in water, they did not prove to be waterproof as they claimed. Stood in a shallow river for 10-15 mins taking pictures and my right shoe sprung a leak. This is a very comfortable shoe but i wouldnt recomend it for any heavy use. If i had been in an alpine region out in the backcountry when this happened, I’d be in trouble this time of year.
These hikers are incredibly light and comfortable, and they look cool. They have excellent cushion and feedback. Unfortunately, after a few days hiking in the Alps in Switzerland with these, the Continental Sole started to literally disintegrate and break apart. Due to this I cannot recommend an otherwise excellent hiker. Adidas at least accepted this as a warranty case so I'll get a merchandise credit (which takes forever to get - it's been almost a month and I still haven't gotten it).
First off I must say these are super comfortable after an initial break in of about two weeks. Sadly the have split on both boots in exactly the same place (see photos attached) rendering them useless in wet conditions. I've worn these for about nine months now and as an avid wearer of Terrex products these have performed the worst in terms of durability. This is such a shame as everything else is absolutely spot on in terms of build and comfort.
The shoe itself was super comfortable to wear. It felt like you were putting on another pair of socks on. The Gore-Tex held up excellent when it came to being submerged in water my feet stayed dry the entire time. The grip on the shoes was excellent when it came to any terrain that I face. The materials held up really nice. After going on a weeklong hiking trip the shoes were completely beaten up and still held up like a champ. The boost and soul was super comfortable and never once did my feet ache after a long hiking day. Excellent shoe all around would recommend to anybody even remotely interested in wanting to hike and/or do any kind of all-terrain walking for long periods of time.
