I love these wool socks!!! They’re thick, comfortable, so warm on cold floors, perfect slouch but great with boots too and made in America!!! I’ve worn them every day…they’re holding up good…they don’t get stinky! I’ll never buy cheap white socks again! Perfect Christmas presents!!!
These socks are AMAZING. I bought them for use in hiking, but they're thick. Like thicc. They're more like the fuzzy 'winter' socks (you know, the ones you get from non-sports outfitters which are comfy but not wool and not very breathable but are great for lounging on x-mas morning in the house and pjs)! So yes, these are more like those socks rather than your typical ski or hiking sock. Very soft, very cozy, does not have a super tight band to hold them up. They are arguably a little thick for hiking (they fit a little snug in my boots which vs. other hiking socks), but I will give them a go in an upcoming weekend. Hiking or not, I will be slowly but surely replacing all my cozy winter socks with more pairs of these. Only downside - wish they came in more colors.
These are not as thick as before but OK. The biggest problem is that they have such a short crew length top. When I buy the extra large size they do fit my size 14 foot but the crew top barely is above my work boot. When I order an extra large sock I would expect that every part of the sock would be extra large for the tall man.
Comfortable and functional. Just make sure your shoes are sized to fit such thick socks.
These are very comfortable socks and fit well. I found a pair that was rated for the size I normally wear, which is 9.5-10. It’s cold outside and they are the best of 6 pair of smart wool that I currently own.
These are both the thickest and softest socks that I own. Great for hiking our just treating my feet to comfort. They do make tight boots or shoes much tighter than other socks but would be great if your favorite boots are a 1/4 size too big
I was looking for some thick warm socks and I first tried the Smartwool Classic Mountaineering socks. I didn't like the fit of those at all (the toe seam mainly), so then I got these Smartwool Classic Hike Extra Cushion socks and they are a winner. Just be aware that these are indeed thick, and if your feet are on the edge of wide like mine, your footwear will be tight.
Previously I had only had the thinner and the thicker weight Smartwool socks, which I loved, but I bought a new pair of shoes that I was having trouble breaking in. Picked up a pair of these to see if it would help and within a few miles it was a perfect fit. Smartwool socks are the only ones I buy at this point. Comfortable and warm, well worth the price.
One bought the first such pair more than 15 years ago. They wore out after 10 years or so. I was happy to be able to see the same pair was still available. They are as cushy as I remember.
I have purchased and loved smartwool socks from REI for many years and normally love them. 5 stars all the way. They are my go-to socks for hiking and just walking around if wearing tennis shoes. I recently purchased the extra cushion which you can feel immediately putting it on. However when hiking yesterday one of the socks kept bunching up under the ball of my foot and I had to stop frequently, take off my shoe in 26 degree weather to try to fix it but could not, just kept bunching up and it was painful as the terrain was up and down hills, very rocky and icy. Maybe it was a one off since it wasn't both socks of this pair just one. I would normally recommend smart wool socks and other smart wool products but not so sure about the extra cushion.
