Not a blanket (Just a heads up to would be buyers)

Just wanted to write a review to let people know that this is not a blanket. This will not keep you warm! A friend of mine was annoyed that she bought one and saw what it was. It's more of a mat/tarp. While I found it funny, I could see that someone may think that way. This is not a "snuggle up by the campfire" blanket. I would use it on a beach, or lay it down for a lunch spot on the ground. I got my mini about 6 years ago, so far it's nice to have to unfold and set my backpack down on so it doesn't get dirt on the back panel or base. Someone could also benefit from the mini in their purse to protect the bottom of a bag from dirt. A larger size would be great to set out as a picnic mat or to lay out your gear before packing up for camping or backpacking.

Worst Product We've Purchased at REI

So, I hate to say it but would hate for anyone else to waste their money on this. We used it first on a sandy river bank for a picnic, and that worked okay - not great, but okay. Next, we used it to sit on a moss covered rock that was damp from some recent misty rain. It soaked through completely and we had wet pants. We gave it shot this past weekend for a third time, this time on snow. It ripped. We do a lot of backpacking, so we know how to care for lightweight items, so this is ridiculous. It's truly the worst product we've ever purchased at REI. Really disappointing.

Great for what it does

I live in nyc and and space is tricky. I love having this blanket to take with me when I’m meeting up with my friends in the park. The material is thin, so i wouldn’t expect it to provide padding from hard or rocky surfaces but it works great on grass and kept me from sitting directly on the ground. The stakes were perfect for keeping the corners down especially on a windy day. The creators were really cleaver using the stitching to show exactly how to fold it to fit back in the bag. Everything is attached so no risk of losing the stakes or bag.

OK as a liner, not a blanket

Think of this as a thin mat that separates you from the ground. Not waterproof though so don’t sit on wet surfaces and expect to stay dry. Dry sand does stay under it unless the sand is shifty wherein your blanket will be shifting and sliding sand around. Pokey grass can be felt pretty easily thru the material too. The size is good and four can sit comfortably. The other downside is the folding and stuffing back in the small attached pouch, but follow the lines and fold slowly and it works. Keeping it because it won’t be worth returning, but using this as a backup to my dollar store plastic table cloth.

Packable size but lacks durability

This blanket is so small that it's convenient to keep in your bag, and you definitely can just cram it into the attached stuff sack without folding it in the finicky way suggested by the seams. It's best suited for picnicking on grass or sand in the summer on day trips and prevents dormant ground moisture from seeping through. If the ground is wet water will seep through. The fabric is a very thin nylon and the denier isn't disclosed but it takes forever to dry and is easily punctured by rocks. I've taken this backpacking and used it as a mat a dozen times or so and the seams are falling out, the stakes have lost most of their paint, and there are several holes in the fabric. I would love to see a ripstop nylon version of this blanket with a thicker denier.

Great for using as a mat

I have gotten a lot of use out of this mat in the couple weeks I’ve had it working out in the desert. It’s helped me to avoid the sharp hairs from the annual plants when I sit a lay my gear out. Its nice to have something to lay on without having to pick off tons of leaves and dirt off my clothes. While two people can sit on it, it’s best for one person to lay on. The only thing I don’t understand is why the attached bag does not fit the whole blanket. It’s a little annoying getting it back in the bag, other than that I love this “blanket”.

My butt got wet :(

I love that this folds small enough to fit in a pocket but I sat on wet grass with it and my yoga pants got a little damp :( maybe if I were wearing jeans it wouldn't get wet? The blanket itself didn't feel very wet, only damp. Plus side was that the blanket dried quickly.

Overpriced for what it is

I have their stuffable duffel which I like a lot, but this item was a disappointment. As others said, it's really a small rectangular tent footprint for a SHORT human. Instead of putting thread lines to help you fold it in half several times to squeeze into ridiculously small stuff sack, it would have been nicer to just have a bigger sack. Not real comfortable to sit one. On the plus side, it is small and light. The only use I have for this is as an emergency barrier if i got unexpectedly muddy on a hike or bike ride and don't want to get someone's car dirty. I regret this one.

Fell Shor of Expectation

I was bummed when I opened the Matador Pocket Blanket because I have the mini one and love it. It is made of the same material, but is a lot larger. I was excited to get it, and when I opened it up I was instantly disappointed. Everything is great about it except one crucial flaw. The seams sewed in it to show you how to fold it. The thread is large, and the needle holes used to sew it are even larger. This make a third of the blanket defective. The mini one is one solid piece of material. I noticed 1 seam in the picture, and thought I could tape it and seal it, but when I got it home and saw the lower third is all holes due to the folding pattern thread I was bummed. I am taking it back. If you are looking for something along this line of equipment I would say get a 1 person tent footprint. It will cost you about the same price, and be more water resistant. I mean the whole reason I got it is to have a bit of a barrier between me and the damp ground. I should have watched some reviews before I purchased it. I am a fan of Matador products, and have several. This one just fell short.

This is not a blanket

Beware, this is not a blanket. It is one layer of nylon that not water proof, water resistant or wind resistant. You could use it on dry ground to keep the dirt off you. I almost returned it, but it's very light and small so I think it would make a nice table cloth for grungy picnic tables at state parks.
