I don’t get it
An amazing cooler. I cannot believe how long it kept my ice frozen. It did significantly better than a Yeti cooler that cost five times as much. The first two bags of ice I bought lasted 48 hours with less than 50% melt. However, at 52 quarts this is a decent size cooler. The word small is in no way associated with this thing. Filled with ice it is extremely heavy. I didn’t even think to look if there was a drain plug before I bought it. Imagine my surprise when I went to drain the water and there was no drain plug. I am a little bit older and I do have a few back issues. I had to ask a gentleman from the campsite next to me to help me tilt the thing to get the water out. Igloo has drains in there 30 quart cooler so I’m not really sure what they were thinking. For me that knocks out two stars. If you’re not at all worried about the lack of drain plug this thing is a solid five stars. I truly was amazed how long it kept the ice
Camping in my kitchen with this cooler was cool
I needed an ice chest because my apartment fridge broke. I found this on the REI website at a nearby store, and it did the job for two weeks. It kept cubed ice for two days before melting. Once I got some practice, I didn't find it very difficult to dump out the melted water. I learned how to pack the cooler efficiently, and now I am less intimidated to go car camping.
Not good for camping
I tested this cooler to see if it was good for weekend camping trips or just beach days hoping for solid ice for 24 hours. I put a small 7lb bag of ice and a couple of ozark ice packs in to see how long it would last in my room temp kitchen. After a night 18 hours later the ice and ice packs were half melted. After 24 hours almost all the ice was melted. Verdict: Not good for camping. For the price its good for beach days and picnics. Note it has no wells. It is a nice green color. Perhaps it would do better full of ice.
Difficult to use.
There's no drain! Why would they make a cooler without a drain. 🙄
Get the other one with a drain
Igloo makes a similar one that has the drain. I got it at Dicks. They have it in white, blue, or red. Trust me, the drain is very necessary.
Good for day trips, not long trips
As a basic cooler, it's fine, but for longer trips I'd look somewhere else. I took it on my four day camping trip and had to refill the ice once. Not terrible for the price point, but there's no valve on this so I had to tip the cooler over and pop the lid open a crack to drain the water first. The lid also popped off when wedging the cooler back in the car. It popped back on with a little work, but it's not exactly sturdy. Size wise it's got a good amount of room, but I kinda wish I'd bit the bullet for a smaller but more expensive cooler.
Nice idea. Lacking design
I liked the colors and the whole idea behind it (being made out of post consumer plastic), but it really lacked in performance, and ice melts rather quickly inside this thing. Doesn’t seem very insulated at all. They could’ve gone with postconsumer plastic and added a bit more design in my opinion, including a drain and stronger handles. I ended up returning mine.
Poor handle design.
On the very first day that I used the cooler the handle partially separated from the cooler. The design is not conducive to carrying the load of a cooler that size. The handle needs to be one piece or as close to one piece as possible. Instead there is a small grooved section from the handle to the cooler that is no sufficient.
Failed lid hinges
Just got back from a car trip using this cooler. The lid's "hinge" to hold the lid was small and plastic. Within 2 days the "hinge" no longer held. If I could give zero stars, that's what I would rate this product.
Great cooler
Enjoying this cooler, does what it claims it will. Great size for weekend getaways and fits nicely in the back of my 2018 Crosstrek. Next time I purchase a cooler this size, I'll opt for one that has a spout.
