Good design and company

I was happy to see these added by REI before the 20% sale ended, especially in this color which I've been looking for. I'm buying it to give flats a try on a touring bike. If you want the best possible off-road traction they may not be the best option for you (the Spoons get better reviews for overall grip) but I have no doubt they'll work well for my purpose and size 12 shoe. I've been researching flats for a while and decided on this. If you have smaller feet, you may prefer the Spoon that comes in three sizes.. other manufacturers may offer varying sizes so something to check if a concern. This pedal has been around a while and has a good track record, a few changes over the years. One thing that has impressed me is seeing them involved in forums, listening to feedback from users, helping to resolve some growing pains. Earlier versions sometimes caused noise due to soles rubbing a washer which has since been addressed. Another problem, now resolved, making them crank boot and carrier compatible with a slight modification to the axle design. This is their top pedal but they use the same axles and bearing/bushing across their line up which is also a positive in my opinion. Spare parts seem easy to find and they will also ship directly from their headquarters in Taiwan (company itself started in Germany). Haven't had a chance to rebuild them but there are some good youtube videos showing the process. Weight, build quality, finish, dimensions, etc. seem on par with the competition but the Oozy seems more competitively priced. The Spike is the same pedal but with a little less weight literally shaved off from the same base pedal, and can be found for a few dollars less. Pedal body and axle are both forged for strength. Seems like everyone is using bushings for the outboard bearing position these days so I don't consider that a negative.. the new Race Face Atlas and the One Up alloy have both moved to bushings after a history of issues with bearings on older models, the newer XT moves to an outboard bushing as well.. so that seems to be the standard going forward. A note on the large inboard bearing on the Spank Oozy, you may not like it if you pinch the crank arm to find your foot position but not an issue for me and I like the better q-factor these offer. Apologies that I can't comment more on personal experience as I haven't installed these yet but since it's a new product and I've recently researched these before ultimately ordering them from REI, I wanted to put info out there for others who are considering them. I'll reevaluate my review and update if necessary once I've gotten some miles on them but I'm very optimistic this won't be required.

Very Solid Pedals - Sticky & Sexy

Very solid platform and great grip. My other bike is clipless so I'm accustomed to having constant contact with the pedal & these flats still impressed me, they held their own through a few rock gardens. They look good too!

Excellent grip and great color options

I was looking for a good grippy but not overly aggressive pedal for my touring/commuter bike to replace my old MKS urban platform pedals. I wanted something low profile, light weight, and with a classy color...these fit all my needs and have been a fantastic addition to the bike...excellent grip for the rainy Seattle winter plus great classy looks!

Stuck like glue!

Bought these to replace my stock pedals. Absolutely worth the premium price, my feet never slip off these things unless intentionally. Just hope you don't take a shinner!
