I've been riding Speedplay pedals for at least 20 years. Up until now I've always used the standard Speedplay cleat which have a fairly stiff release, like a ski binding. I've never had an issue with them but just for grins I decided to try these easy tension cleats from Wahoo. They are fantastic! I was concerned that maybe they would be too loose, but in several months of riding, I have yet to have either foot come off the pedal inadvertently. I am a recreational road bike rider, averaging 100-120 miles per week. I can't vouch for how these would perform under racing or mountain biking conditions, but for the kind of riding that I do, they are perfect!
I have been using Speedplay Zero pedals with standard tension cleats for over 15 years It was always a little difficult to lock into the left pedal due to having a problem with that leg. Last year it was very difficult to get the pedals to engage properly. I purchased the Easy Tension Cleats to try them out. Wow! what a difference when trying to lock into the pedals It was much easier to clip into the pedals. I was a little afraid that the cleats would unclip unexpectedly but did not have that problem at all. I will be purchasing more of these cleats to put on my other road bike shoes.
Out of the box, spring sizes between left and right cleat are completely different. The right spring matches the contours of the housing; the left spring has significant space to wiggle. As a result, it's much harder to unclip the right shoe from the pedal, making it unsafe to ride. Need to return this set and see if I can find a replacement with a good spring on each side.
I’ve used Speedplay for several years now, and always felt the original standard cleats were a little hard to release. It didn’t stop me from using them, but there was room for improvement. These fixed that issue and I am really happy! So happy, in fact, that I bought another set as a backup.
Been a speedplay fan for years. My bike group bolts at green lights, they didn't get the memo, so no time to look down at which side the cleat is on. Either one works. Had the pre-Wahoo versions and they could be sticky. These are like "Buttah" gettin in and out, greased lightnin'. Unbelievable tweak by Wahoo! Couldn't be more pleased.
Poor quality springs. The end of the horseshoe spring break off and locks your shoe in the cleat. Very dangerous. It takes a real effort to unclip when this happens. This has happened around 3000 miles on my last two sets of cleats. I like the cleat so I’ll plan on replacing them at 2500 miles. This defect raises the cost of using this cleats system over any other system I’m aware of. I never had this problem when Speedplay made these cleats. The problem appears to be Wahoo quality control. Boo
The sealed bearings on the pedals themselves are a definite improvement over the original Speedplay pedals, which had grease injection ports -- a somewhat messy maintenance task. But the cleats have a more limited range of free play than the original Speedplay "X" cleats, which for my knees is not an advantage. Even fully removing the limit screws from the cleat does not restore the original range of motion. The worst aspect of this cleat, however, is that the plastic covers wear out and fall off way before the cleat itself needs to be replaced. The covers seem purposely designed to fail early, and wahoo offers them at only $20 less than the price of the full cleat. Imitation covers (from Chinese sources) are available for a fraction of wahoo's price, but they are made of softer and thinner materials, and do not stay on even for the first ride.
There is really nothing to say here. I purchased online Wahoo (Speedplay) pedals and find it very hard to get in and out. Thankfully, I think because of many rider complaints, Wahoo offer cleats with easier to get in and out. So i went to REI store and got two set of cleats. I really like them and i am very happy that REI store had them in stock so i could ride same day.
If you have speedplay pedals and don't use these easy to unclip cleats then you are missing out. It's OK with the regular ones but with these it's just seemo easy less while not on clipping by mistake. Personally I don't understand why anyone would want to use the regular cleats.
Ordered and received these excellent pedals in an efficient and timely basis. These are by far the easiest pedals to clip into since they are two sided.
