As a long time Speedplay X user, when it recently came time to replace my pedals, I opted for the new Wahoo Speedplay Zeroes, paired with Wahoo’s Easy Tension Cleats (note: Wahoo pedals come with a set of cleats, which I have not installed). I decided to order the Easy Tension Cleats after reading comments from other users who prefer gentle tension for rapid unmounting; fortunately, this was a good decision. Based on “road feel,” I had no trouble getting in and out of my new pedals and easy tension cleats, but believe I would have struggled, if more effort were involved due to higher tension. For now, I’d advise those used to Speedplay’s original X pedals to consider buying the Easy Tension Cleats, since Wahoo’s update to the Zeroes is not backward compatible with the old cleats for X pedals. You can always install the regular Wahoo cleats that come with new Wahoo pedals on a second pair of cycling shoes, if later you want to compare them with Easy Tension Cleats.
I have been riding Speedplay X series pedals for almost 30 years. Wahoo dropped the X series from the product line, but the Zeroes are similar. Cleat installation, pedal action, and clicking into the pedal on the bike are the same. Wahoo continues the Speedplay without skipping a beat. Nice.
I have used these pedals for years. I bought the new pedals for my new road bike. I like the new design. The metal encompasses the entire cleat connection area, which will give the pedals a longer more durable life. You will not be disappointed
I've been a Speedplay advocate for decades now. Love these pedals. Knee saver. Wahoo made them even nicer.
I started riding on the road 44 years ago. I did not start out with Speedplay pedals. Many years ago I had a friend give me a pair of Speedplay pedals and I have never gone back. I have been using the x-series pedals for years now and noticed that REI had the new Speedplay pedals by Wahoo and decided to give em a go. I absolutely love the power transfer that the speedplay pedals provide. I love the flat platform and dual side mounting making it very easy to get in our out of these. I also love how you are able to fine tune the mounting of these pedals in a number of different ways. I love the cleat covers, that protect the cleat now and make it easier to walk in them. I love having my float adjustments both heal and toe wide open, but love that you can adjust this to your preference. I have no idea why I waited so long to upgrade to these new Wahoo Speedplay pedals. There are some products that are just so innovative that they change the sport. These are a prime example. I would highly recommend that you do the same and buy a pair of these. Also buying them through REI give you dividends so you can buy a second set of cleats for your second pair of shoes. As long as Wahoo keeps improving on these bad boyz I will be Speedplay for life.
Keeps getting better and better. Over decade speedplay user and this one is no different in ease of use. I do like how they improved the possible longevity of pedal body by surrounding it with metal now. The major selling point is that I don't need to deal with grease gun and subsequent pedal cleat cleaning for about 100 miles after each maintenance now!
I’m a long time Speedplay lover and this upgrade is fantastic. It’s the same great benefits - dual side entry, ground clearance, etc and now no more pumping lube in the pedal every few thousand miles. The update cleat is also a great change. I highly recommend these.
Wahoo update on Speedplay takes quite awhile to break in. Initially quite hard to both clip in and release from pedals. Lots of use and using dry lube on cleats helped. Not as easy as older style Speedplay.
