Good Basic Bike Computer
An Old Biker

Good basic functions; easy to see even in bright sunlight. No wireless issues, but set-up is cumbersome. Set-up might be needed numerous times to get accurate mileage unless you guess your tire size correctly the first time. Pressing the tiny button on the back of the unit requires a tool such as a paper clip to enter set-up mode. Set-up is not that intuitive and the instructions that come with the unit are terrible. However, you can find good detailed instructions online to download. Once it is set up, you'll like it. I wonder how long the batteries will last? Both transmitter and display/receiver attach to the bike with integrated rubber bands; I have concerns about their durability but they do make installation very easy.

Computer Pros & Cons

The jury is still out on this one. I like basic, good quality, no frills equipment. This is the first wireless computer for me. I had to download instructions that were adequate. After the set-up, it does its job. Pros: - Fairly simple to use after set-up. - Easy to put on and take off of bars, though a little snug on 32mm bars. Cons: - Supplied instructions are inadequate for first-time user. - Very difficult for these old hands to put computer back in rubber case. - Magnet on spoke for sensor not easy to secure. Lost it and replaced it with an old Sigma magnet -- no problem since. - I'm used to keeping track of monthly mileage on the trip meter. This trip meter maxes out at just over 260 miles. I now keep weekly tallies instead. The most serious problem now is that the loop at the end of the strap is starting to tear. When the tear is complete I'm not sure how I can use the computer. (This is after only 6 months.) I think I can exchange it at REI and hope for the best.

My awesome Bontrager cycling computer

I love this cycling computer. It has a soft encasement so it won't be damaged if dropped, it's easy to use while riding, has all the functions I like, and numbers are larger than my other ones so easy for me to read.

Nice computer for my needs

Great price, especially with discount. Printed instructions were not complete enough to set it up, but went to the manufacturer's website and downloaded complete set up instructions. Found YouTube videos that helped for a quick set up. Easy to remove to place on another bike if needed.

Easy to use and install on recumbent.

Fit the need perfectly for a new recumbent trike I recently picked up. Not all wireless have the range for a “unique” bike. This one does!

A Pretty Good, Basic Computer

I prefer simple, relatively inexpensive, non-gps computers for my bikes as they tend to be more slim, discreet, and attractive as well as being more sensitive to immediate changes in speed: I don't need a lot of features or mapping, particularly as I always map my rides using Strava with my phone in my jersey pocket. I have had good luck with Cateye computers over the years but REI doesn't carry them and I had a 20% off code and a small dividend burning a hole in my pocket, so I bought a Bontrager GOtime instead of my standard Cateye Strada. Pros: *Extremely easy/simple setup *Seems rugged with the rubber case *Easy to remove if you want to take it off the bike Cons: *Chunky - looks fine on my beater flat bar bike but would look kinda goofy on a nice road bike *Only mounts to bars - Bontrager should have made this bar or stem mountable by allowing users to turn the computer 90 degrees in its rubber case/strap *Digits on bottom row get cut off by the case's edge unless you have the screen pointed directly at you *Text showing functions is tiny - there are only a few functions so it's not hard to learn the order you scroll through them, but it's still not ideal *Screen contrast is OK but not as good as other computers I've used I wouldn't buy this computer at full price and I much prefer my Cateye computers, but if you've got a discount code the GOtime isn't terrible.

Never worked

I waited a couple of weeks after delivery to install on my bike. I was never able to get past the step to set mph vs kilometers. It will not let you set and go to the next step. The “set” button does not work. I live 2 hours from the nearest REI so I am out of luck.

Bontrager GOtime Cycling Computer

I found this cycling computer easy to install and nice to have on my handlebar where it is easy to read and reset. I also like that the computer gives me my distance for the ride and the time I spent on that specific ride and find it to be very accurate.

Works great, compact

Easily installed though I preferred the old spoke magnet I had. With online manual I could easily correct wheel size error I made without starting over. Sharp viewing, easy switching. Enclosed in the flexible strap for added protection.

Odometer does not increment properly

When the display is set to “Odometer” (total miles), the odometer does not change. If the display is set to “Trip”, then the odometer works properly. This is a terrible software bug. The rest of the functions work, but the bug is fatal.
