How we measure bikes
- Standover Height Standover Height is a measurement from the ground to the top of the top tube, measured at the midpoint of the top tube.
- Reach Reach is the horizontal distance from the center of the cranks to the center of the head tube, measured at head tube level.
- Stack Stack is the vertical distance from the center of the cranks to the center of the head tube, measured to the top of the head tube.
- Effective Top Tube Effective top tube is the distance from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube/seat post, measured parallel to the ground.
- Seat Tube Center to Top Seat Tube length is the measurement of the seat tube, from the center of the cranks to the top of the seat tube.
- Head Tube Length Head Tube Length is measured from the bottom to the top of the head tube.
- Head Tube Angle Head Tube Angle is the acute angle between the head tube and the ground (measured towards the rear of the bike)
- Seat Tube Angle Seat Tube Angle is the acute angle between the seat tube and the ground (measured towards the rear of the bike).
- Bottom Bracket Height Bottom Bracket Height is a measurement taken vertically from the ground up to the center of the cranks.
- Wheelbase Wheelbase is the measurement from the center of the front axle to the center of the rear axle.
- Chainstay Length Chainstay Length is the measurement from the center of the cranks to the center of the rear axle.
- Fork Offset Fork Offset, or rake, is the distance from the front axle to a line drawn parallel to the center of the head tube or steering axis.

Pricey but worth it.
This is a fine eBike with plenty of speed and battery power. I charge it up overnight to insure a full charge the next day. This was my first eBike so I thought I would get the best. I was not disappointed. The peddles are OK. I may switch to one of my clipless pedals though to get more power. It does weigh much more than I am use to but the brakes are adequate for the job. The gearing is great but I can’t envision needing the low end. There are some steep, over 35%, grades around here. I look forward to trying it out on those. The tires are not that good for rough riding and are not meant for tubeless conversion. I was surprised that the seat post actually does make the ride more comfortable.
Almost 5 Stars…but….
This is my 3rd pedelec and bike a lot, so not a newbie to this arena. In short, the bike is great on slab. I’ve ridden 250 miles on it (95%) slab and it is fast. I ride the “Tour” mode most of the time and riding at 25mph is pretty comfortable. I usually ride at 75 rpm. I’ve ridden single track and dirt roads, and prefer it on slab. I run the tires at 40lbs and it is fast. Despite the bike being comfortable and fast, there are two problems that prevent me from giving it 5 Stars. First, the headlight came without a bracket and the good folks at REI are still trying to get me one from Cannondale three weeks after pick-up, so night riding is out until REI, or moreover, Cannondale send me a bracket. Secondly, and most importantly, the Bosch Purion display is exceedingly archaic and lame. All mileage (even tripmeter) are in complete miles (I.e. 7.0 or 7.99 miles is still “7” miles. The battery meter is in 20% increments (if bike is 81% charged, it shows 100% per the bars) and no other info like top speed, average speed, no rpm info, etc. The display on my 4 year old Haibike blows this Purion display away. Also, the Range indicator is not very interactive to your own input (I.e. Range barely changes regardless of leg input or speed). Also, switching between power modes and changing the screen display uses the same buttons, just with longer button hold times. This is pretty challenging to do, particularly riding off-slab. Almost every time I try to switch the display, I unintentionally raise or lower the power level. Frankly, I can’t say anything favorable about the display. The Bosch motor seems a little louder than my 75Nm Yamaha motor, but has more torque and seems more responsive (I.e. faster acceleration). Admittedly, I would have liked thinner tires on a “gravel bike”, but if you pump them up to 40lbs +, they ride well with about 1.5cm wide tire traction. Overall, the bike is great for slab or smooth dirt, but due to the lame bike computer, I can only rate it 4 stars and not 5. Too bad that a bike costing almost $5k has such a 1990s-like bike computer and display. Come on Bosch….the Purion might work on a $2k bike, but for this kind of money I would have expected something more feature rich, perhaps smart-phone compatible, and easier to use.
Like the first year model of a really good car..
At the time of writing there’s not much out there for the Tesoro neo X1 so a few things: ride is smooth - this is a heavy bike with the 625w battery but pedals well with no assist (I didn’t weight it). Bosch speed is a great motor .. louder than some but cancelled by the wind in your ears! The weight and tire width/tread give impression of needing to overcome some inertia and rol resistance but once up to speed this momentum can be a plus. 29 wheels handle well so it’s as nimble as you’ll need (not bike for rooty trails). I like the simplicity of use of the prion display - works well and easy to use. This bike feels bigger than it is. Range had no surprises and felt ample through the modes. High end spec and well integrated components- air shocks definitely better than spring on lower models. The less good: charger is positioned to catch water and dirt as it faces up directly above the motor. Also the charging socket kept popping out requiring a zip tie fix after a call to Cannondale (by the very helpful rei bike shop). Worst: the headset top cap is covered by the angle adjust bar/stem and after decent ride the headset was loose with no access to home adjustments. After the third trip back to rei with no resolution I was forced to return the bike (not literally- the rei folks were accommodating and didn’t make me feel bad about a return due to an issue that might reflect some hasty ‘innovation’ on the X1 and X2 in the Cannondale design shop). Pity because it’s a great concept .. loose a few pounds, move the charging port and go for a user (and bike tech) friendly headset and this would be a five star bike with few competitors in its class & price ..
A correction to previous review
An update to the previous review: I replaced the bike with another (same model: Tesoro X1). The issue of a recurring loose headset on the previous bike was no longer present. More than that, it looked a little higher with risers included whereas the previous bike (since returned) was, I now realize, missing some of these pieces. So.. rather than blame Cannondale for 'hasty innovation', it seems something in the QC chain was missed along the way. Pointing no fingers, and the new bike is great.. and more comfortable than before with the complete headset install. So .. adding a star for the bike (the bike shop should have picked up on the issue when first noted but were great about returning, so for sure REI is a decent option for new bike purchase in general).
Update to "almost 5 stars"
This is an update to my initial review (the first review on REI) of "Almost 5 stars...but..". I have now ridden the bike for 500 miles and am happily revising my initial review from 4 stars to 5 stars! I ride the bike almost exclusively on pavement with the occasion smooth dirt path. First, the bike is very comfortable. With the adjustable handlebar stem, seat, etc. you can dial it in the fit perfectly. The tires are a little balloony, but allow for varying air pressures for fast firm ride on pavement or less pressure for softer off-road riding. If riding alot off-road, I would suggest tire liners protecting your tubes. Second, the bike is very, very fast. The Bosch 85Nm motor accelerates very quickly and is pretty quiet. It seems to have gotten quieter after initial break-in. Thanks to Justin, et al at the Boise REI, they dogged Cannondale on my behalf and sent me the missing headlamp bracket three weeks after pickup. BTW, the Herrman headlamp is incredibly bright and the best bike light I have ever had. My biggest criticism, again, is the Bosch computer display with limited riding info (i.e. no clock, only whole number distances, not 7.9, just 7). Another potential problem longer term is that the power plug faces upward and over time, this may be an issue with water, dirt, etc. The plug has a rubber flip cover will likely not seal the plug as it wears. The power plug would be better on a vertical surface where it won't collect water or dirt. I absolutely love the bike and would buy it again! I have recommended it to many friends. It is my third mid-drive Pedelec and love it.
nice bike with issues
Light sits too low, most light is on tire, if rotated up enough to clear tire, you light up sky not road. Kick stand works loose, barely supports bike. On bike charging port on frame cover inadequate, and worse the female plug is not captive in frame, Removing male plug pulls it out of frame, and pulls wiring out, separating plug from socket is difficult. Will be returning bike
