Pro: High quality waterproof shell with excellent adjustable hood and brim that really does not block your view, easy adjustable cuffs and hem, large pit zips, great arm range of motion with no restrictions, slim fit still allows layering underneath, and lower droptail hem provides more waterproof protection. Cons: With droptail hem not tightened I still feel restriction at the bottom when bending down, sleeves are a little longer than expected so need to use the adjustable cuffs (it does help with arm range of motion though, and longer sleeve is better than shorter), and if you are wearing a short sleeve shirt you may feel the cold underarm zipper against your skin.
Did the job on the outside but wore out fast on the inside. I used this jacket for one rainy season here in the NW for the simplest of tasks. When I inspected it at the end of the summer, I noticed that the inner lining had worn off where my belt loops brushed against the lining. The jacket fits well with enough room for me to have an under layer but the lining wore away just by walking. Not what I would expect from a brand known for its durable outerwear. In contacting Arcteryx support they would not cover the jacket under warranty that was less than a year old. Luckily, I purchased it from REI and they took care of me with one look at the problem. I didn't have to explain a thing.
I needed a new all-around shell jacket for a variety of activities (hiking, snowshoeing, mountaineering, backpacking), so I spent hours researching and kept hearing about Arc'teryx's exceptional build quality. Wow am I glad I found the Beta LT. This jacket is completely weatherproof, breathable & versatile; perfect for all-around outdoor activities! I've used it as a Ski shell on a Spring power day in Breckenridge, hiking in the rain, plus a recent summit climb on Quandary Peak. It held up in 40+mph winds, snow showers, and freezing temps (had a base layer and mid-layer underneath). The features are fantastic: pit zips are great for releasing heat when you're highly active, the hood has fantastic sight-lines even when cinched down, the cuffs are easy to adjust with gloves on, and I like the pocket zipper locations (higher than most jackets to avoid pack straps). Also, there's a little fleece patch on the backside of the top of the zipper to protect your chin/mouth (nice touch!) Overall, I'm very impressed with the performance, plus it looks great and I've received several compliments on the styling. I love the "Ignite" color, but I wish it also came in the "Dynasty" color! Either way, this jacket is hands down my new favorite piece of gear and I'm excited to take it on all my future adventures.
I bought this as wind/waterproof layer for a trip to Iceland and future hiking trips. I went to Iceland in late February 2024 and it was cold. Teens to 20s in terms of Fahrenheit. I was in whiteout snowstorms, rain, and a TON of strong winds in the north by the fjords. I wore a Fjällräven insulated hoodie (wool interior) and The North Face sweater under. I live in SC and don’t need a winter coat so this is what I opted for. I was never once wet, cold, or affected by the wind. I was truly amazed at the wind proofing of this jacket. I would buy this again, although hopefully I never need to since I have this one.
If you are confused about which Arc'teryx Beta to get since there are so many options: - Arc'teryx Beta SV - Arc'teryx Beta AR - Arc'teryx Beta LT Hadron - Arc'teryx Beta LT - Arc'teryx Beta This jacket is the best option because both SV and AR are too stiff and heavy (good for extreme weather, but too heavy/warm for all other weather) and other editions do not have arm pit zipper. Trust me, you will want that arm pit zipper. One bad thing is Arc'teryx do not provide a lot of color options on purpose. They do rotate the colors, but it may take few years for your color to appear. They are not insulated, but they do keep you warm in cooler weather.
I owned this trusty jacket for 10 years and it served me well. But when I decided to wash it with NikWax Direct TX wash in, the jacket totally came apart. I machine washed the jacket and dried it on low heat, per directions. I’m attaching pictures to show the damage. For what I paid for this jacket, this damage should not have happened.
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) A classic example of what outdoor gear should be all about. Weatherproof, light, robust and compact. The perfect example of a three season shell for me. I am a walker and love hiking. Whether I'm in the Eastern Townships or other parts of the world, being well dressed appropriately is of the utmost importance and Arc'teryx does that very well. I have been a customer for quite a few years and the quality of their products and their service have always been up to par. My new BETA LT shell is no exception. Although when I bought it there weren't many colours available(sad) I am still pleased with its performance in different weather situations. Also, a little thing that really irks me is that there are no inner pockets. I understand why but I found that in my old and very used BETA AR the pocket was handy for carrying small items. Other then that, I love it.
Best piece of rain gear, forget ultra light how about ultra waterproof, breathable, lightweight and useful!
I really wanted to like this jacket, but cannot. The trim fit doesn't work for me when trying to wear over layers. I purchased a size medium. To put my size in perspective, I'm 5'10", weigh 165 and wear Levi 505 32x32 jeans. When I wear my base layer and an insulation layer, I feel like the Michelin Man. Seems to me the jacket is made for the 'Outdoor Chic' crowd, but doesn't work as an backcountry jacket for snowshoeing or skiing. I may try a size large, if I can find one, but will probably return for refund and wait until REI re-stocks their hardshell inventory so I can see, try on and feel instead of paying $399 blind for a shell and hope for the best.
Overall, decent jacket but nothing special for the price. Fits true to size, and has some nice extras, like the helmet compatible hood, and the underarm zips to keep you cool, but having used this jacket in the rain, its less than bomber. for the price i expect something essentially brand new to hold up well in a moderate rain, just super disappointed with the performance. it also lacks the extras that tell me it was designed to be a truly functional jacket, like bigger pulls on the zips to make them easy to use with gloves, a built in pocket for recco, a much longer backside to shed water ect. If you want a brand name jacket, that looks cool, and can shed some very minor weather, this certainly fits the bill. Great color, super comfortable, and really light/easy to put on for walking around on a windy day. Doing anything technical, where a bomber jacket is a must, i would look elsewhere, especially for the price.
