My daughter needed a reliable but affordable jacket for her D of E expedition. This jacket has served her well, still beading after heavy use and breathing well, especially with pit-zips. But packable and still comfy and smart enough for daily use including school! Ticks a lot of boxes- and that's hard to do for a teenage girl!!!!
Super useful, it managed the horizontal downpour of the west of Ireland perfectly. I’d highly recommend this raincoat as it’s easily packed down into its own pocket and fits in my kit bag. The colour is great, I don’t feel like a bright pink beacon!
I was really excited to test this jacket in Pittsburgh in the midst of a VERY rainy season, even by our standards. I’ve been on the hunt for good rain gear. Alas, I’m still looking, because this wasn’t quite what I hoped for. PROS: At the outset, it’s a simple yet smart looking jacket. Love the color, recycled materials, high neck that would appear to offer really great protection. Was thrilled to find the option to unzip under the arms for some venting. Can adjust the wrist cuffs to make them smaller with simple Velcro. Can also adjust hood to keep the wet out in the event of serious rain. CONS: Wow, is it hot in here, or is it just me? The days I wore this weren’t particularly hot, but it does get humid, and I felt like I may as well have been wearing a plastic bag. What seemed to be an option to allow some under arm venting didn’t seem well executed. The jacket took on an awkward shape and fit when those areas were unzipped. I have what I feel is an average/athletic build with hips. There is zero give to accommodate those hips; it would be great to have the option to adjust the bottom to accommodate. Since I couldn’t fit this over my hips comfortably or in a flattering way, the neck was a bit too high. Would also recommend adding a small visor to the hood to provide additional protection.
First of all, I love that this is made of recycled materials! This jacket is a good opportunity to support sustainability. I got this jacket just before Denver tried to imitate Seattle for a couple weeks so I got to use this more frequently than planned for a few days. The hood is awesome. It stays on in windy, rainy conditions and keeps water from dripping on my face. It also has been fully soaked and hasn't leaked at all. One of the nice features is the placement of the pockets. They seem a bit high at first but then are at the perfect height above a hipbelt when hiking with a backpack on. I also like that it is super light and crams into a very packable size This jacket does lose some points on breathability for me. When the weather is a bit cooler, it wasn't too big of a deal but warmer weather and a lot of rain meant that it got a bit clamy pretty quickly. The pit vents help a bit but the material on the inside just sticks to you. The main zipper on my jacket is a bit finicky but I don't know if that is just my jacket or true across the product line. I would test out the zipper at the store to make sure it's not sticky before you buy.
Bought the RAB Eco downpour for my walk on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. 127 miles over 7 days I wanted something I could rely on. Unfortunately this RAB jacket was very disappointing. The zip is constantly getting caught on the flap behind it and the cuffs do seem to retain water. However, a far more serious issue with this jacket is it’s lack of breathabity. In fact it is like being in a mobile sauna. I really feel so disappointed after all my research that it does not live up to all the claims made for it!
Lovely color (the light blue/purple color), flattering fit, and seems to be actually waterproof! Went walking in the “bomb cyclone” this morning, and kept me relative dry. Best feature is the underarm “pit zips”, so you don’t build up moisture. I’m 5’4” and curvy, and the Medium fits perfectly with just enough room for an under layer sweater. The large swam on me. One thing is I wish it had a bit of a bill on the front of the hood. I’m going to try a visor underneath next time it rains.
Perfect jacket for use with a t-shirt for warmer days and with a jumper for cooler days. Great in rain showers, hood is adequate, not too big, though would be better if it packed away. Packs flat into a pocket but I don't like the creased look when it comes out. Colour is lovely, I ordered the teal greeny colour. Air vents under the arm are good when you get warm but it isn't warm enough to take the jacket off. Good all rounder! May purchase it in another colour!
I'm really disappointed in this jacket, I've now had two both of them have let rain in. First jacket was worn for an hour in light to moderate rain, it was deemed to be faulty. Brought a second thinking it was a one off but no next one worn for no more than 5 mins in moderate rain it was wet inside. So annoying because there are not many size 6 waterproof jackets out there, it fitted well, long sleeves and looked great on and could easily wear layers underneath.
I bought a size up so that it fits comfortably over my RAB down jacket without feeling "straight jacketed". Covers whole of my down jacket and is absolutely waterproof, even when rain is blowing sideways, hood stays in place without having to hold onto it. I love the longer sleeves, In heavy rain I unfasten the velcro wrists so that the long sleeves cover my gloves, keeping them dry. When hiking I walk quickly so the armpit vents are perfect (my previous waterproof didn't have those so I used to get wet on the inside from yucky sweat - this new jacket is a better design, no sweat problem so I stay perfectly dry). I chose boring black because I also wear the jacket for the train into London to work, looks smart enough for the office and is small/light enough to squash into my laptop bag. This is my perfect jacket for work and play!
First off, I love the fit and color (deep heather) of this jacket. I’m a reliable size medium, but have had some issues in the past with jackets being too tight around the hips. This fits just right and has enough room to wear a mid-weight layer underneath. Shortly after I received this jacket, I gave it the ultimate test for any rain jacket- a weekend of PNW rain camping. This jacket kept me dry and comfortable on several wet hikes and hanging out around the campsite. My only (minor) complaint is that the seams for the pit zips rubbed against and irritated my inner arms a bit when I was wearing a short sleeve t-shirt underneath. This wasn’t a problem with a longer sleeve shirt. Overall, I think this is a great lightweight rain jacket, and the fact that it’s made with recycled materials and eco-friendly DWR is definitely an added bonus.
