[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] They’re good comfy shoes. I’ve done 60km of walking in them so far and found them to be really nice. The grey colour was a bit lighter and brighter than I expected but that will dull over time. Also my toes get a bit cold on winter days but an extra pair of socks will solve that, I guess they’re designed to be very breathable. The soles have a habit of catching on the lip of the stairs as I’m going down them which has had me grabbing for the handrail a few times, I haven’t had that with any other shoes so I’m guessing the tread pattern matches the stair edge quite well. Be careful out there, and enjoy a nice walk.
I really like this shoe - 4th pair of Brooks: 1 -trail and 3 street. 2nd pair of Trace's. Like the weight and just enough cushion to not worry about picking up the pace. I live and run in the Vegas area so breathing and weight are important and the Trace is very good for this. **ONE ISSUE**: with this pair is that the tongue in the right shoe continully slides to the right while running, to where the orange center piece for the laces almost disappears every time I run - 4 times since the 26th of April (running on level surfaces) I still would highly recommend this shoe but would like to know a fix for this issue and also some more color combinations to brighten them up:)
Comfortable feel with extra cushioning without compromising the feeling of the ground. These shoes have slightly more room--I wear an 11.5 in Ghost 13, chose an 11.5 in these, but work just fine without any issues. Also, I went with these shoes because they are lighter in weight than most other Brooks, yet they still provide enough cushion. Overall, great shoe Brooks, thank you! ***For all you skeptics out there no "kickbacks" were received for this review–normally, I don't provide reviews, but for three days now I've noticed no one has left a review; so, I figured why not take this prime opportunity to begin shaping the perception of thousands. Good luck and happy run folks!
I tried these shoes as a longtime fan of the Ghost series. As expected, they are a little more minimal and stiff. They have a nice transition and feel when I'm on softer surfaces or moving faster, but I miss the cushioning of the Ghost when I'm on long, slow runs on hard surfaces. I'm a bigger runner, and the impact isn't doing my knees any favors. I'm happy with the shoes, and I'll keep them in my rotation until they wear out. Still, I think they're in a somewhat awkward middle ground. For faster runs I'd definitely prefer the Launch. For long runs, the Ghost is still my favorite. I'll stick to the Ghost/Launch duo for the future, but these are a great value with a lot of utility.
This is a great addition to the Brooks family of shoes. They are light weight yet provide enough support for my runs. My longest run in them has been 8miles. They felt supportive all the way through my run. I think the price is great. I would compare them to the Ghosts, but a lighter. I personally run in Ghosts and Adrenalines, but now I'm invested into adding the Trace to my rotation.
Congrats to Brooks on their newest shoe. A few of things about the Trace 1 are spot on but overall needs some tweaking. The fit is snug but not constraining and fits to size. The segmented crash pad forefoot is borrowed from the Ghost and allows for good transition and toe off. Also, the upper material is very breathable. This is a soft shoe in every way and for this veteran runner much too soft. With a little built in support I would consider the Trace as a trainer. Also. I would switch out laces from round to flat and adopt the Launch eyelets. Overall, a nice shoe, but much too soft. This is my first try with a truly soft shoe but will stick with my Ghost and Launch lines and return the Trace 1.

This is the best shoe at this price point that I have ever worn. I typically wear the GTS but wanted to try a neutral shoe that still provided cushion without being overly soft. This shoe hits a nice middle ground between Brooks "Energize" shoes like the Revel and the super cushion shoes like the Ghost. Still enough cushion to soften the ride but not enough to completely lose contact with the road. I would definitely buy these shoes again and I hope Brooks decides to expand this line to include more colors. One negative thing is that the laces that come in these shoes are really puffy I would like to see Brooks replace those with laces that were easier to tie in a hard knot so they stay tied on longer runs.
Right shoe is uncomfortable apparently defective from manufacturing. Creates pressure on my right toe marking it unusable for exercising.
I've put 50+ miles on my shoes so far. With a few runs over 8 miles. The shoe length feels right, and toe box is adequate. Initially, the upper felt a bit snug for me, and I think I have a rather thin feet. After some breaking in, this has improved some. They do seem to vent well, and i hope they fair well for the summer. The ghosts are nice, but they are much too stifling for sweaty conditions, in my opinion. The soles/tread seem fairly responsive and active, but I would still consider these more of my recovery/cushioned running shoes, rather than my trainers.
