This ain’t yer 1980’s Fanny pack Bo Derrick

Because I REALLY <heart> my new OSPREY pack. I embraced hydration packs when I rode dirt bikes... the hose & bite valve made sense (hellooo-helmet) I have repurposed my old hydration pack for hiking.... it’s ok but I find in high exertion you need a guzzle not a sip so I have been carrying water bottles anyway...taking the pack on & off securing & re-securing... and end up not drinking enough. ••REI REWARDS & SALE: So the perfect storm and eliminating the other things on my wishlist I came across this ‘Fanny Pack’. Built for bicyclists by OSPREY this promised everything I needed, great color & hey- OSPREY. ••TRAIL TEST: •I LOVE this set up •This pack is light weight and tough as nails •Carried 2-32 Oz water bottles has sinches and hold downs; these were not going anywhere. If smaller bottles are called for the pack “structure” adjusts with snaps as do the sinches & hold downs. •Holds my Big Azzed iPhone 8 in massive otter box case (indestructible:yes but..) in the first compartment •Holds 3 packs of pb crackers, 2 apple squeeze packets, cheese sticks, hard candies, lip balm, keys, bandanna & banana in front zippered pouch with room to spare. Has little pockets inside to organize. •two side pouches carried sunscreen, mulittool, small first aid kit, treats for Mimi my pupper •It rode like a dream across my lumbar with great suspension and I had access to everything - - with it on. •When running there was the slosh of the water in the bottles but you get that with all but ($$$)baffled hydration packs. The pack stayed put & didnt ‘swing’. These are huge bottles. I ‘think’ it would hold 32 Oz nalgenes but @2 for $3.00 the Aquafina work out fine & are just as refillable as the nalgene ; )

Minimalist pack for short rides

I was looking for an option to carry a spare tube, tools etc that was smaller than a backpack for shorter rides. Overall this fits the bill. I can fit the tool roll from my Osprey backpack as well as a huge tube (27.5x3) in the main compartment with just enough room left for keys. Phone fits in the top compartment just fine, belt pouches are enough for a small first aid kit, chap stick snacks and all that. Some how on the first ride I did manage to undo the buckle with my gut, hoping that was a one time event. It will take a bit of getting used to the pack bobbing around a bit since I’ve always previously ridden with a backpack.

Great for short hikes

I use this for short hikes where I just need a water bottle and a few essentials, and so far it’s been working out fine. It easily fits a bottle or two, phone, snack, keys, headlamp, knife/multitool, wallet, bug repellent, and has room to spare. Bottle compartments fold down when not in use, reducing bulkiness. Waist strap is a good width, not too skinny, and it’s easy to adjust while on the go. The pack rests comfortably on my hips to the point where I almost forget it’s there, and on warmer days it’s nice not having my whole back covered by a pack. This thing is going to be my best friend for weekday after-work hikes. Glad I was able to get a green one.

Happy with my Osprey

This pack is great at holding my stuff and water bottle during my 1-2 hour rides on blue rated mountain bike trails. The pack that sits in your lower back does an ok job and keeping you dry, but you will feel some moisture between the pack and your back. The bottle holder have a bungee cord with the spring bobble thing that you can adjust to keep the bottles in place. The pack easily fits this all at the same time with 2 21oz water bottles in the bottle sides: wallet, phone, car key(yes it’s only one key I don’t put any extra dangly things on it, but they would fit easily), 2-3 of some combination of energy beans or gummies or energy bars, and my MP3 player. Some days I go light don’t put water bottles on it. The side straps adjust easily while riding and I can turn it around and get stuff out of it while riding, practice before you try to do that if you are clumsy as this could go really bad. It’s an Osprey bag, it s awesome and bigger than the “stealth” style bags that don’t hold too much with them being “stealth” style bags.

Great for day hikes

I am using this as a hiking day pack and I love it! It easily holds two 1L bottles of water. The bottle holder can be adjusted to hold larger gatorade bottles as well. The way the pack sits on my hips keeps the bottles out of the way for trekking pole use. The main pouch holds all the essentials for a day hike, but the smaller compartment really only big enough for a key or ID - it's a tight space!

Great fit. Holds a bunch.

Field tested twice now on short hikes. Great lumbar fit, I’m 5’9, 145 lbs. Holds: large Camelback water bottle, iPhone 10, small wallet, house keys, car key fob, lip balm, folding reading glasses, energy chews x2, bandana and still room for a trailbar but I ate that early. Nice green color! Done.

Game Changer!

Most of our hikes have been single day excursions in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania lately, no overnight stays. For 10+ years, I have used a small Osprey Talon 28 as a daypack to carry water, extra gear, etc. During this last adventure in Hocking Hills, I decided to ditch the pack and go 12 miles with just a single water bottle. (That was perhaps an overcorrection, lol) It was liberating to be free of the pack, albeit not enough water, no food, no headlamp, etc. ;) This lumbar pack was purchased to find a happy medium between too much gear and too little. It did NOT disappoint and is highly recommended! Here is what to love: - Bottle holder positions are perfect for hiking or mountain biking, you can easily grab bottles and replace them while moving. - The Inside pockets are spacious, the smaller waterproof pocket held my gigantic phone, keys, and small wallet. The larger pocket was big enough to store a rain jacket. There are small mesh dividers to separate loose items. - Even after 4 hours in constant rain and storing the wet raincoat in the pack; everything in the smaller water-resistant pocket was still dry. - The extra pouches on the side are big enough to hold a headlamp, snacks, fire gear, and a small first aid kit. (Mine were empty for the first trip, but I filled it up at home to test capacity) - Build quality is excellent, it was constructed with environmentally friendly materials, and has a lifetime warranty. - It is super comfortable. I forgot about it several times even with two large smartwater bottles, sawyer squeeze, raincoat, phone, keys, wallet, etc. The adjustment straps are also super easy to tighten and loosen along the trail while moving. The only regret? Why didn't I buy something like this years ago? Admittedly, I owe the credit to my best friend who mentioned buying hip packs for next trek. Have fun out there! Cheers, D.J.

Savu blue!

Great little pack so far. I purchased this little hip pack for bikepacking, and it’s just what I needed. I don’t like leaving valuables, such as money, wallet, ID, and a few other smaller things on the bike, so this allows me to carry those things on my person without adding too much weight to the saddle. The other feature I really like is the option to carry two extra water bottles when necessary and I found those also work well to carry a tool kit or my MSR fuel bottle. The zippers work well, the bright blue color makes it easy to find in the dark, and it stays put on my hips. I would buy this again.

Love this pack!

This hip pack is excellent for cycling! It easily holds two water bottles securely. Water bottles are somewhat in the way when I use this for hiking. There's plenty of room in the pack for snacks, phone, and plenty of other small items.
