Great piece of kit!
This duffel is a little larger than I thought it would be but is actually just what I need for my motorcycle trip coming up. It fits just perfectly on top of my paniers and rear rack. I really like the full zipper on the top and the various carry handles and straps. The body of the duffel is a little stiff but that's to be expected for a waterproof piece of luggage. The zipper works a little hard but doesn't feel cheap or inferior. I'm suspecting that it needs more use to work in a bit. Overall I really like the size and useability of this piece of luggage. It's only made one trip so far but I'm convinced it should last a good long while.
Carry on duffel
I bought this product after searching for a duffel that I could carry on Icelandair. They are more restrictive. I need to carry all my gear for an 850 mile bicycle tour. The bag came today and is the perfect size with way more room that I expected. If I need more room than this I’m carrying way too much. The shoulder straps are removable which is good. It has a rain flap over the zipper and handles on the ends and sides. It has a side zipper for things like your passport and things you need to get to. My only concern is the zippers. To me they are fairly light weight compared to other duffels. This is why I buy and trust REI. If they don’t hold up I know REI will take care of me. Since this bag will mainly be used for carry on and transfer of gear to panniers and frame bags I think it will be good. I will update this review after the trip next June. It’s on sale now so a good value.
Super niiiiice
I ordered it for myself, gave it to my wife and I'll be ordering a little larger one.
THIS IS A BACKPACK
It's kind of baffling that this is labeled as a duffel. The two straps are curved in a way that makes it cumbersome to use over the shoulder, and across the body is all but impossible. I'll go slow for the folks at ALPS. "Backpack" is a compound word comprised of "back" and "pack". If a pack is designed to be worn on the back, such as this one, then it is a backpack. It's right in the name.
