Excellent for city riding

These pedals are awesome! I've been using my old road bike for commuting and, until recently, had just added snap-on platforms to the clipless pedals. Unfortunately, this meant sliding feet at stoplights and hills. I finally sprung for these platform pedals and they're a huge upgrade. They're rock-solid, comfortable to press on and very grippy.

Great pedals

The pedals are great, my feet stay firmly on the pedals while riding.

Top quality, great grip!

Top quality pedal with great grip on tennis shoes. These replaced small cage style pedals on Trek DS 2 Hybrid bike and provide excellent footing, smooth operation. Reflectors no included but that's small issue.

Great for commuting

Bought these after a surgery when I couldn't use clip-ins and they have been perfect. Obviously you lose the efficiency of a clip-in but for short rides it's really nice to only have one pair of shoes and not have to worry about your feet slipping off. They're also far superior to my stock platform pedals on my Specialized that don't even support a normal foot. These are wide and deep so any size foot should fit fine.

Temporary clipless replacement

Due a recent hip surgery, I need to use these pedals instead of the clipless in my road bike for a few months to reduce the risk of falling off the bike, and they feel very good. Excellent choice.

Excellent pedals. Safe from being cut by those metal petals. Very good product.

No reflectors on an urban/commute pedal is nuts

This is no fault of REI’s but more of a criticism on Shimano’s part. I failed to notice that these pedals come pre-configured without any reflectors. From my point of view it’s actually a little reckless especially since it seems like it’s a money grab to get the consumer to spend another $20 after the sale when they realize what they ended up with. Don’t get me wrong. The pedals are great. They’re comfortable, have excellent traction and the typical build quality you’d expect from a Shimano pedal. It’s just that they’re not safe for the target market this pedal is created for. Safety is important to me. My grandmother was actually struck by a vehicle while she was traveling roadside. She didn’t survive. Being seen by drivers is the first step to not being hit and pedal reflectors are one of the best ways to make this happen because the motion of the pedal creates an unmistakable reflection for others you share the roadway with. I could understand Shimano not including these on high end pedals for competitive and off-road use but this is an urban commuter pedal. It needs reflectors.
