Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

This is THE shirt
This is THE shirt. I have hiked the entire PCT in this shirt. It is perfect for all types of weather, most importantly its very light, so its great for blocking sun but still keeping you cool even in blistering weather. It it perfectly made -the fit and design literally could not be better. I also run in it and wear it for anything that I will be in the sun for a long time. Best outdoor shirt ever! The other brands are just not as breathable and the fabric is not as soft, comfortable, or stretchy. And very durable. One shirt made it 6 months and 2,000 miles before wearing down too much. Thats incredible if you ask me.
Buy it now
I am obsessed. I work for an outdoor adventure company and I wore this thing constantly this summer. Not having to worry about sunscreen was incredible. Highly recommend, I never got burnt. I am 5'4, 137lbs, broad shoulders, and I wear a medium.
Inca Trail Tested
I wore this shirt during my 4 day Inca trail Trek to Machu Picchu in June. I had one other long sleeved sun shirt with me and this, while very comfortable and definitely did its job, took a back seat for a few reasons. The good: it kept me both warm and cool, and safe from the sun during the differences in temperatures (from 30-75f), I loved the hood and the thumb holes were a plus while working with trekking poles. I ended up only wearing it one of the days on the trek because the other just performed a bit better. The truth is, other top I I had didn’t get smelly. :-) But I still give it 4 stars because it did what I needed it to and I continue to wear it on walks and hikes.
high quality shirt but neurodivergent ppl be aware
This is a very comfortable UV shirt! I love the color (gray fin heather), its a very lovely tan/cream color. It's a little longer than I was expecting but I'm also shorter so that checks out! One thing I didn't really expect was the side seam down the arms. It's a nice little flare but it definitely rubs weird. If you are a neurodivergent hiker who has sensory issues with clothing, be aware of that side seam on the arm! Overall I still gave it 5 stars because I think that with time I'll get used to the side seam and it's still a really well made shirt.
Lived in this shirt all summer!
I loooooove this sun shirt. I was a little worried it would be too thick/warm because I usually only wear tank tops in the summer, but it’s perfect and so comfy and breathable. This has become my go-to uniform when I’m out on the water or on long hikes above tree line. I finally caved and got one of these because my partner has two of the men’s hooded Sahara sun shirts and he wears those more than anything else in his closet. It runs a tad large but I kind of love the oversized fit. I’m 5’2” ~110 lbs and ordered a small, but an XS would be great for layering during shoulder season.
Love this SO much
I love this shirt so much, it’s perfect. I am not one that can usually justify this, but I would buy 5 if I liked the colors better. I have the green, and might get another green just because I really don’t like the other colors. Gray or olive green would be swell! Every weekend looks great with leggings, but I always want to leave it on to run in and then I have to wash because I sweat. Perfect arm length, shirt length, love the shirttail hem. I’m 5’3” with a longer torso, fairly muscular arms/athletic build, 110 and XS is just perfect and looks flattering but almost covers the bum like I like.
Favorite sun shirt for water activities
I have two of these shirts and they’re now my go-to for sun protection when we’re at the lake or pool and I don’t want to apply/reapply sunscreen. I love the fit, especially the curved hem and the size and lay of the hoodie. The XS is just the right amount of roomy and fitted. I like how cooling it feels when wet. I even wear it while wakesurfing and it’s great! Highly recommend for water fun!
Super Star Layer
This is my favorite layer. It works in all conditions. Hot out? Awesome sun protection! Little chilly after being out all day? Great light layer! Gonna be splashed in the kayak? Quick drying! I bring this and other tops for multi day adventures but always, only wear this. I am buying in another color, because I want two in my rotation. I've compared this hoodie to other brands, this one withstands abrasion. I wear it climbing, hiking, SUP... and of course out to the pub after! The fit is feminine, the hood is helmet compatible, the sleeves have thumb holes. I just want to live in this.
Kept the sun off...
Got this for a bigger trip later in the summer. Took it for a test backpacking trip the past few days. This hoody was great at keeping the sun off but was definitely not quick dry. Backpacking in the summer you are going to get hot. Even draping this over branches to dry out during breaks did not help. This might be good for high country where heat/sweating is not an issue. I will be getting a different sun hoody for anything over 55-60 degrees. Not sure I will take to my bigger trip...even if cooler weather, when you head up 2000-3000 feet, up and up...the last thing I want is to be wet at the top. First time I've ever been disappointed in an REI product. I will use this for hanging at home this fall.
Must wear in the summer sun
My first sun/shade hoodie was Patagonia and discontinued so I got this from REI as a backup. It's a bit heavier than the Patagonia but still breathes well. My only frustration is that it often rides up while I'm hiking because the women's cut is higher on the sides. My husband has the men's version of this item and doesn't have any issues. My Patagonia hoodie has a cut similar to the men's hoodie and doesn't ride up. For the price, I would absolutely recommend getting one of these. I love not having to wear so much sunscreen and continuously reapply. It keeps my ears and neck in the shade when the sun is hot. I tell everyone I know to buy shade hoodies!
