I’m a gravel rider and coming down a 10 mile descent, dehydrated and exhausted (68 mile unsupported route with 2 pals. I missed (or hit) a rut and high-sided at about 30 mph. The impact resulted in tons of bruising from my frame hitting my legs and hitting the fire road but my head hit first. I ended up with chain grease on the back on my shoulder (to paint the picture). I was able to walk/ride away without any concussion symptoms. Without a helmet I would have been in bad shape and help would have taken at least two hours. I write this review as I come to buy another one.
Just bought this and it was delivered 2 days early! That rarely happens and it was nicely and discreetly placed on my porch by On-Trac. It's perfect. Lightweight, excellent airflow, great padding, comfortable chin strap, and well-made. I will be replacing with the sale helmet too. This time I picked thr white shell, next time maybe High Vis Green.
My husband loves to ride his bike. Previously while neither he or i wore helmets i had heard him mention the idea of getting and wearing one. I could not decide what to get him for his birthday, although we had already planned a ride together. I stopped in rei to look around and then saw the smith signal helmet in yellow and knew that was it. On his birthday after we got the bikes ready i gave my husband his gift. He was super excited when he saw it was a helmet and could not wait to wear it (I think he thought i did not want him to wear it on the ride since i do not wear one). After the ride he could not quit talking about how it felt, how light it was and how well vented it is. Definitely recommend
Got in a gnarly wreck today going ~20mph downhill where I hit some bad road and toppled. I know I hit the back of my head because the helmet is cracked and dented, but I didn’t feel anything. Nasty road rash but head is totally fine. Got precautionary scans and everything came back clean. Great helmet, will be buying another! Seems to have absorbed a lot of the impact by breaking apart
A light but sturdy helmet that I purchased to go with my new Rad Rover 6 Plus. The medium size helmet is a great fit with enough adjustment to be able to wear my skull cap underneath.
A helmet isn't any good if it doesn't fit! Before this helmet, if I did find anything that fit, I would have to fill the empty spaces with sizing pads and spend quite a bit of time adjusting the straps to cradle my cranium without overlapping the ears or getting in the way of sunglasses or whistling in the wind. The dial adjusts the fit in seconds. The straps don't interact with the fit...their only function is to hold the helmet on your head, which made it possible for me to get those adjusted in just a few minutes. There are a couple of hidden advantages to the dial adjustment that I should mention. 1) Without the foam sizing pads to absorb your sweat, you can wear your helmet with less stink. 2) If you have short hair but don't get a haircut for a few months, it can change your hat size. A quick turn of the dial corrects the fit in moments. About the sizing... This helmet is sized by head circumference. With my Smith ski helmet, since my head circumference was at the upper limit of the large, I got a large. That made the fit too tight to wear a balaclava under the helmet. Because of that, I got my bike helmet in extra large. Other things that matter less than fit... It looks nice, but I don't care about that. It's lightweight, but I don't care about that either. It's well ventilated, which I care about, but the ventilation isn't what makes this helmet stand out.
I love the fit, I do have a big head with lots of hair and the quality is excellent! One of my favorite biking helmet!
So far so good. This helmet is lightweight and has good airflow, not to mention it is suited to my fashionable sensibilities. I would recommend.
Measure like the manufacturer/REI suggests and it fits like a glove. Adjustment on the back is great.
64 years old and my very first bike helmet! Love the lightweight feel of the helmet and the color is just what I hoped for! The price was online with what I felt comfortable spending!
