Awesome Gravel Bike
This bike is absolutely awesome. It is of exceptional high quality, very well assembled, looks great. Riding is a joy - brakes, shifter, Bosch eBike (Purion) sensor are just great. Work very well and all is intuitive. Whole bike is light and responsive. In boost level 1of4, range is likely well over 100km for me. Mostly I would ride boost level 2of 4 and easily gets 70 km. I rarely need boost 3of4, except maybe steep hills that I want to go fast. Boost 4of4 is too fast. Easily ramps up to 45-46km/hr. Range on full boost, relatively flat is around 30-40 km for me (big, older rider). Bike is comfortable to ride and really quite good on bumpy terrain. Feels solid. Those hydraulic brakes really haul you to a stop, thats for sure. Complaint? My butt ain’t made for that racing saddle! I switched to a more cushy saddle from Bikeroo, and all good. I added regular pedals, and a Topeak tool bag - fits in water bottle holder and has pump, tube, patches, basic road tools. Also put on a Sprintech rear view mirror. I splurged and also bought Garmin cycle computer, head light, and Radar tail light. Anyway, have around 300km on the bike, and I am really enjoying it! Garmin stuff is wonderful and I’m having a blast with the whole setup. Riding this bike makes me feel young again, somehow…
Nice and easy does it
Opted to get a e-bike to offer that little assist needed for the hills in our area. This offers the assist fro ECO, Tour, Sport and Turbo. I have not used anything out side of tour and found that the be great. I am 67 and back into cycling after retiring my horses and equine career . Without pedaling, there is no assistance. The motor output always depends on the amount of your pedaling power, and i found this to be grand. I have replaced the seat post with something that offers a bit off an offset from the poor roads in California, given that the ride otherwise is stiff and hard on the bottom. My only complaint, thus far, has been the lack of color… black and silver, pretty plain, but otherwise love this bike and the service from REI.
Even better than I expected
Incredible, really. I bought this as a commuter to make the 60 miles round trip a little quicker and more routine. I bought an extra charger to keep at work and remove the battery to charge in my office. But I had no idea it would be so addictive. It feels just like my road bike, but always with a tail wind. Assist mode 2 of 4 (tour) let’s me cruise at 27mph with about 40mile range. REI worked with me to calibrate the speedometer which needs to be accurate because the assist tapers off imperceptibly at speedometer reading of 28mph. The dealers have the Bosch diagnostic tool. Down sides: the tubes it comes with don’t have removable cores - I had a flat quickly with no slime in the tubes. And I do notice a slight delay in the assist when I’m out of the saddle, but not at higher cadence. I’ve been a 50 mile per week cyclist for years and I thought ebikes were cheating. But this is awesome and feels natural. I was looking for a carbon racing ebike initially, but the wider slicks with an aluminum frame is perfect for the heavier bike. I even put aero bars on it which I find comfortable and also extends the range. I’m 6ft, bought the large frame, and installed a 110mm handlebar stem.
Good but with flaws
First of all this bike feels really good for an electric bike. It rides well even with the power off and the power delivery is smooth and well matched so it feels like you're a beast. It's much lighter than most electric bikes (still heavy). A minor gripe is that the gearing is super low so if you're commuting on the road you're gonna be way out on the end of the cassette all the time. I haven't had any luck with finding a larger chainring for it. The big issue I've been having is a mostly with Cannondale and a bit with REI: The wheels are just not up to the job and feel like a skimp for such a high end bike. We'll leave aside the tires but you're gonna want to change them. I've had many broken spokes which led me to believe that the wheel was poorly laced by REI; even after they had the chance to go over it again and fix it. After I got a second opinion, I was advised that the WTB rims on the bike have a tendency to split; while they would re-lace them for me they felt Cannondale should be replacing them with something more suitable. Unfortunately Cannondale won't really communicate with the consumer directly and in the meantime I'm without my ride. So, really nice bike BUT I'd really rather get something like it from another manufacturer and maybe my normal local bike shop.
1st year, 3000 miles
This is a great bicycle. I have put on wider handlebars, and a softer seat and replaced the original tires with Schwalbe Marathon Plus 38mm tires. The 'factory' tires only made it 1000 miles before they were worn out. I ride it on asphalt paved bike trails almost daily averaging 22 to 25 miles a day and the only thing I can think of that I should have checked is that the front disc brake squeaks occasionally.
Gravel e-bike
Love this bike! Could have used more info from manufacture on how the computer works but the product is fantastic.
Great bike and REI was awesome.
This bike to perfect for my application. REI bike shop did an great job preparing the bike for me. I couldn't ask for a more present experience.
Can't wait to ride my new e-bike
I ordered this Cannondale e-bike online, and had it delivered to my closest store, in Grand Junction, CO. It's a great bike, according to all the online reviews I could find, including the information on rei.com, and it was delivered to the store, set up for me, shipping damage fixed, and held for me to pick it up. Couldn't have been any easier. As always, the Grand Junction associates are polite, knowledgeable, and friendly. Now, it's just a matter of getting some halfway decent weather to go riding.
Gravel Bike - Bosch Speed equiped and Fast!
Reliable and fast for a Gravel Bike. Bosch components are awesome, with the exception of the Purion head unit. For the price of this bike, a Kiox of Nyon is much more useful for even the average rider. Bought of close out and the price was fantastic. Whoever built the bike did a very good job and along with 2 years maintenance, I could not pass this up, as it is pretty close to my dream ebike. Thank you REI for still having this in stock.
Planning for a ride on the BRP
I've done some bike tours with my BIL and he had a pretty worn out and low end mountain bike that he peddled. I encouraged him to upgrade (thinking he'd spend $1000) and he bought this bike. That gave me the "green light" to do the same once it was discounted. We are planning to do a week ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and we'll both need a little help on the steeper climbs - hence the logic for this bike. I've started my training riding 50 miles a week (without power). I ride about as fast on this bike as my other middle of the road Cannodale "urban" bike. A little slower going uphilll but faster on the flat or slight grades (I think it's my profile being lower on top of the drops that makes me faster). I'll put on the power after my training run to get home or just have fun. What a blast. The bike is very comfortable. Biggest surprise is I like the slicks. Never rode them before but they hold the road very well.
