Good, not great

I’ve used this product between 10 and 15 times. I like its size, battery life, and features, like showing you progress on your climb. Here are the things I don’t like that I wish I knew beforehand. 1) The climb progress screen only shows if it knows your route in advance. You have to create a course in the Garmin app and upload it to the device first. Otherwise, if you go up a steep hill, it will not show you your progress or bill grade. 2) If you go off course, it won’t show you how to get back. You’ll just see your progress wondering into the void with the trail or road you are supposed to be on to the left or right. It is a small screen, so it can be hard to tell that you are off course until you’ve ridden the wrong road for a bit. 3) If you are on a climb on a course you programmed and you go off course, you won’t see any notification at all. Your progress on the climb will stay the same until you get back on the right course. It gave me a phantom instruction to turn right today, and I went up a steep hill for 10 minutes before realizing that I was off course. It is disconcerting to be in an unfamiliar place without any indication or instruction on how to get back. 4) The Garmin course creator has an automatic course creator which is cool. If you are bored of your usual routes, you tell it how far you want to go and what direction, and it will create a course. However, sometimes it will tell you to get on a road that you don’t feel safe riding on. Today it wanted me to turn onto a two lane highway with no bike lane. I decided to go an alternate way. It is good for tracking distance, time, speed, and calories. I won’t rely on the GPS directions in unfamiliar territory anymore.

Solid cycling computer

I have never used a cycling computer until I purchased this Edge 130+ a few weeks ago. I gotta say, it honestly does more than I thought it would. I went on a 5 hour ride and it was still around 55% battery. I read a few of negative reviews about the Garmin Connect app, but I honestly love it. It's so easy to make a ride on my phone or desktop computer. The GPS and turn by turn nav seems v accurate, but my only complaint would be the map/navigation screen doesn't show other roads around your route for context. Not a big deal, but was something I didn't expect. It is small, but very legible from any riding position, esp if you splurge on the aero mount!

Ideal

I have the Garmin 500 (2010 vintage), 830, and now the 130 in my stable of bike computers. They’re all superb. Each provides features I’ve used and enjoyed. The more recent 130 serves my basic needs of speed, cadence, heart rate, elevation gain, and trip distance in a compact package. While I enjoy the multiple map and other features on my 830, it was a tad large for my personal bike cockpit needs. I like keeping my handlebars as uncluttered as possible. Over time, I’ve discovered there are times a bike computer can distract from the joy of riding, and surroundings, with too much screen and too many features. The 130 is ideal for most of my riding needs, and so far battery life seems sufficient for most rides.

EDGE 130 PLUS

The Edge 130 Plus is the third generation of Garmin's radar unit which is used with the Varia 515. This Edge has a tone which warns the rider of approaching vehicles, including other bikers. It has other features to numerous to go over. The owner's manual is not very clear and could be improved. I spent the first week trying to get the Edge to pair with my iPhone and Garmin's Technical Support Team could not help. I wasted much time and decided to return the device to REI where I was assisted by Graham of the bike repair department (Santa Rosa REI). He was more knowledgeable than Garmin Tech staff and by initializing the device, restored the Edge to working properly.

Garmen Edge 130 Plus

Great adventure gps/tracker. Loads of functions when combined with the phone app. which is free to download. I recommend this as a great step up for cyclists who want to go to a wireless system. Plenty of up grades and monitors to sync with it to track all your fitness needs.

A lot packed in but still room for improvement.

While this unit packs a lot of features into such a small form factor, that's also its biggest weakness. I found the button proximity to be really difficult to manage - when toggling between map view and stats view. Strengths: Accurate, easy set up, crisp display, small form factor, great battery life Weaknesses: No usb-c, buttons on the right somehow kept activating "lap", loading maps requires you to physically plug it into your computer, required conversion of tcx file to be an older Garmin ant format for turn by turn, and no "out front" mount included in the package. Overall, I'll be returning it and trying another device.

A lot of information from such a small unit

My experience with this unit has been very good. My son bought me this as a gift last year. My wife added the vivosmart4 at the same time. Since then have added a speed sensor, cadence and recently the taillight with radar. everything works very well together. The amount of data made available with this setup is awesome. I’m in my sixties and have copd I can monitor my pulse during my ride and see how much progress I’m making on my cv conditioning during the season.

Great Simple Cycling GPS

Simple to use cycling GPS. I didn’t really need all the fancy features, I just needed a device to tell me speed, distance and time with an easy to read display. This does that and much more. Battery life is around 9 hours of use for me. I just wish it came with an out in front mount, had to buy one separately.

Smarter small computer, lotta data, minimalist nav

"Goldielocks" ... The 130 Plus fits nicely in the product line between a basic computer and a full mapping solution. Gives lots of flexibility on data display, seamless connects to 3rd party HR sensor and Garmin cadence sensor. "Just works" data transfer to Garmin Connect mobile app. Supports my courses and my training routines.

We've been really happy with this GPS. It's compact, easy to charge, holds a charge for what seems like forever, and provides great data (including fun MTB data on jumps).

Good Value GPS Bike Computer

This is a good basic GPS speed/odometer. It has many more features and computations than I will ever use, but they are there for someone needing more specific training goals. I would give it 5***** but for one complaint: the Start/Stop/Reset buttons are all on the sides of the unit which make them much more difficult to access, especially with gloves on. I've had many other computers that had the Start/Stop/Reset/Mode/Scroll buttons on the face of the unit, and that configuration works much easier.
