While these are branded by Shimano (now) as the GRX, which is their gravel oriented group, they're actually a replacement model for the venerable PD-M530's and have gone on my hardtail/trail bike. They did a fantastic job. The larger platform with an updated deck shape give great support and feel under your shoe. The ridiculously excellent SPD system and axles carry over so I'm expecting the durability of a rock...or a block of steel...or maybe Keith Richards, but that may be too much to ask. Shimano has a reputation for having their mid-level pedals outlast basically everything else on your bike, and my 20 year old 520's are testament to this. If you're on the fence for a new set of pedals to outfit your gravel, mountain or touring bike, I can't say too many other affordable pedals will get you the bang for your buck vs. these.

Great pedal to learn clips if you're not doing anything to gnarly. Too much float even with the large platform since there's no pins if you're gonna be doing any steep descending.

Great pedal for the money

These pedals are a great way to step into the clip-in pedal world without spending a fortune. The adjustable step in function helps you get used to being locked to your bike but quickly getting out. I like that you can tighten the clips the more comfortable I become in them. It is also great the clip-ins are are both sides, so it is easy to hop on, click in, and get moving. I should have switched to these years ago now, seeing the benefit of using the full pedal motion. You will not be disappointed with these. I actually ordered a second set for my trainer and will be getting another for my Mtb.

Great pedal for beginner or veteran riders

Everybody is calling this pedal a "beginner" pedal... Well if you never used clipless then you can start with this pedal. But if you are a veteran cyclist this is an awesome pedal, as it offers everything that you need. Big platform to transfer more power and the proven SPD style cleats that are nearly indestructible and allow you to walk as a normal person. I used them now on my road and gravel bikes. They are a bit heavy compared to the SPD SL style that are defined as road bike pedals but the cleats won't need to be replaced every few months.

NOT just a Beginner Pedal

The Shimano ED700 is a great pedal for cyclists that are new to “clipless” pedals. It’s also a great all-around pedal for experienced riders who value a convenient and easy-to-use pedal that combines a generously sized platform with double-sided SPD style clips. Work great for going on a quick ride in tennis shoes or a gravel / mountain biking adventure. Sure, there are lighter and more compact options but unless you’re racing does it really matter?

Great pedal for the price!

Great MTB pedal for the money. The platform does add weight but it helps distribute power and protects the clip over large obstacles. It also helps to make this pedal super easy to clip into. I highly recommend this pedal for people looking to get into riding clipless for the first time or for road riders looking for MTB cycling support similar to a SPD-SL at a bargain price!

Great beginner clipless

Great pedals for beginners on clipless. The long cage allows you to pedal without being clipped in while you get comfortable clipping in. Plus, the wide body makes more contact on the shoes giving you a stable ride. Its shimano, they're gonna last.

Good Pedal

Its a good pedal for the money, but a little on the heavy side. The wide platform allows for slightly more power for gravel biking.

Amazing spin bike pedal

This is the pedal the Peloton should have selected for their bikes. SPD so you can walk around, and amazing foot support on the bike. This pedal is not light, but makes no difference on an indoor bike. Smooth bearings and really easy to dial in clip tension. Vast improvement for indoor cycling experience. Probably a decent outdoor pedal, but a little on the heavy side.

Affordable shimano pedals

I've only used these a couple times so far and like them well enough. Only giving 4 stars for now because time will tell about wear and reliability. Trying to remember to keep them clean and lube up the springs regularly. I'm a big fan of Shimano spd mtb pedals on two of my other bikes, but opted to try this style with a surrounding platform for my hardtail mtb. Previously I only had flat pedals on that bike. Since I'm not counting grams on that bike, figured this is a good way to test out this style pedal without breaking the bank (compared to the mountain bike version with platforms).

These will get the job done without worry.

Nice mid range pedals with a nice platform to help get your foot in faster. I got these to replace and older set of SLX pedals. I just finished a gravel race with these and they did the job as expected.
