5 Stars for REI customer service!
First, I want to give REI a shout out for excellent customer service! I had shipping problems and REI did an awesome job resolving the issue for me. Happy REI is now located in Maine. (I resurrected my membership form my Seattle days in the 80’s) The snowshoes are great, mostly. I snowshoe daily on my land. These snowshoes are great for that sticky snowball snow. I break & make my own trails with my old gut shoes or MSR depending on conditions. I went out in the rain yesterday and the Crescent Moons did pretty well in the deep snow too. My issue is the bindings. They don’t hold my boot centered & I am sure this is going to cause wear. Plus not really a fan of Velcro for snowshoe bindings. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
Falling apart fast
Got these as gifts last winter, and at first they seemed great. A joy to use. But after just a few uses in gentle, soft snow (not icy or rocky) conditions, the ice cleats and the lugs that hold them are falling apart. Some of the cleats are already missing and with basically all of the rubber cracking around the others, they probably won't survive another season. Super disappointing. We are just a few months past the return window.
Great snowshoes in the right conditions
Great snowshoe for groomed trails/packed snow. I’ve become addicted to snowshoeing and this is my fifth pair of snowshoes I’ve purchased. I have different snowshoes for varied conditions. These now complete my collection for the various conditions here in MN. I took these out during on our our snow storms b/c I had just purchased and wanted to try them out. They did alright, but definitely work best in more snow packed conditions or groomed trails. Very light weight and easy to get in/out of. I would highly recommend these for snowshoeing in packed snow/groomed trails/light snow.
Soooo good!
What a quality solution! So light, still sturdy, a breeze to put on, they stay put, they never get clogged and your feet stay warm with them underneath! You can just tell that these were designed by a snowshoer who want to fix all the things they did not like about conventional snow shoes. I assure you they did (see my first sentence). I rarely think a product really sets a new direction (although the Salamon Shift Bindings for Backcountry ski do come to mind). These are the new norm. AND, they are somehow not following the trend of every other company and setting silly high prices for outdoor gear that appeals to the older crowds who have the money to spend on them. The value for price on these was just a really pleasant surprise. They make my top 5 outdoor products for the year (and probably the last 5 as well). Kudos to Crescent Moon!
easy and fun
Took these out for the first time last weekend and had a ton of fun on a mix of trails and not-very-new but deep snow. I’ve read they aren’t great in fresh powder but they did great even off trail on the older snow. We went a pretty long way uphill and down and I wasn’t sore at all the next day, I think thanks to the fairly natural gait and relatively light weight. I wear womens 7.5 shoes and they fit but just barely. Any smaller you would really be pushing the Velcro. Definitely make it easy and fun to get out for non-hard-core snow adventures and see places you could never otherwise access.
I loved these until I didn't!
I bought these in 2021 and used them in the winter of 2022 and 2023. Recently they seemed to have poor traction, so I checked the bottoms and discovered that half of the ice spiked have torn out of the holes they were screwed into. They did not wear out they tore out. Not sure if new spikes will even hold. Since the trails I use the snowshoes on are groomed there is very little stress on the shoes. Wonder if anyone else has had this problem?
So fun!!!!
How have I lived in the NorthEast for my whole life and never had snowshoes??? These are amazing! I tried them today and did fun hiit workouts... alternating between running and walking in rolling hills! So fun!
The easiest snowshoe to use
My wife and I purchased these this past winter expecting to used them on more hard packed and even icy conditions. They worked as advertised for me but for her not so well. She pronates her feet somewhat to the inside and found that the tips were hitting at times causing her to stumble. We will return her pair at the Albuquerque store and she will continue using her MSRs.
Fun, but…
These are easy to put on and fun in any depth snow. However, two things. First, they are wide, and the inner edge will rub against your upper ankle. Ouch. Second, as many have pointed out, the spikes rip out of the rubber. Bad design. There should be metal anchors, but instead the spikes are just screwed into the rubber.
Nice and quiet
Nice recreational snowshoe. Easy to use and walk. Only downside so far is that snow sometimes collects on top making my feet feel a bit heavy. I wouldn’t recommend these for super deep snow and/or heavy packs, but for winter day hiking they’ve been great. These are so quiet too which is by far the best feature of you ask me!
