Love these shoes !

I bought this about a month ago. Taken them on 5 hikes (4miles - 14 miles). I noticed that there was a little discomfort at first with them being tight around the middle of my foot but as I wore them more and more. They seemed to break in and I love these shoes. I don’t like boots because my Achilles tends to rub against the back whereas with these, ankles are free. They are waterproof as advertised but obviously if your ankle goes below the water, water is going to get in your shoe. They were heavier than expected but all in all I love these shoes for day hikes , going to take them on a backpacking trip soon.

Great early on.

These shoes were fantastic early on. I bought these on May and felt great the first couple of months. It's September, so around 4 months at this point the right shoe is completely coming apart at the toe. I've Shoe Glued them twice now but the separation is beyond repair at this point. I loved the yellow touch with the browns. The paracord like strings looked awesome. I took them on 2 hikes (about 50 miles) and a couple months worth of dog walks. Not sure what's typical for trail shoes, but I had lots of other pairs last much longer.

Poor fit for the price

The heel on these shoes wont stay on your ankle. The heel is too low and not angled properly. My heel slips out with every step. This is not a sizing issue as I first ordered my usual size for Merrell shoes, which normally fit great. My regular size was way too small so exchanged for a half size up. the larger size fit the front of my foot great but the heel is too low. Really disappointed for the price of the shoe. I have even tried heel pads, which you shouldn't need for brand new shoes but they don't do much because there isn't much heel to attach to. On a positive note, they look really great and are otherwise comfortable as long as you aren't walking or jogging.

Good for hiking climbing

I take these shoes too the extreme. Literally up 100ft trees for trimming. I am a tree climber I found years ago that it was a lot better for me too wear my Merrels started with the all out blaze. They lasted 4 years now and still use them. Although I liked the all out blaze better. The zions are very comfortable and seem like they will last as well.

Not for me

Ordered my regular shoe size 9D. My foot is very average width and the toe box in the shoes were so tight almost painful. Plus their was heel slippage. Had to return.

Nearly perfect...like as close as it gets

I recently hit 9 states in 2 weeks and these were my go-to everyday stomper. These handle great in the mud, wash off easy and kept my feet cozy and protected. Great arch support and design. They are a little stiff at first and so can pinch a little depending on sock choice, etc. That said, I fell in love with these. I bought a separate pair of hikers for trails, but would definitely consider these for any trail, or short climb/incline path. I wore these kayaking and they are a little heavy for that, but seriously I didn’t want to take these off for most of my trip. I forgive them for being stiff and a little warm/sweaty because they have to waterproof for me and that comes at a cost. Totally understandable. I’ve gotten over any pinching. Love these. Finally found a waterproof replacement for my favorite ACGs of the past.

Not very durable

I’ve had these shoes for 3 months and they are starting to fall apart. Almost immediately after I started wearing them the stitching started to frey. It didn’t lose any of its waterproofing abilities but looked kind of ridiculous. Just recently the sole has been coming apart from the shoe. I haven’t even been hiking with these yet. They are very comfortable and look great but for the price I would hope they would last at least a year.

Not a good fit

I purchased these because they feature a durable toe area, unlike the Nova model. Made the mistake of ordering waterproof and had to return for the next half size larger though all othe Merrell shoes fit in my size. Began to wear them, size seemed ok. Haven't worn many times, they are not comfortable. I can only hope they will become comfortable with some age. In hindsight, I should have paid closer attention to the reviews.

Merrell Fan - BUT... Bad Shoe

Bought just to wear. I use my hiking boots for hiking, my work boots for working & these were simply to wear around. Within a week I had chucks of foam falling out of the "flex sole" and fraying stitch-work around the leather. A month in they look worse than my 6 year old Moabs that I've absolutely beat on. I'm a Merrel fan & think they make great quality items but they really missed the quality mark on the Zions.

Excellent shoe; perfect if it stands the test of time.

Waterproof trail shoes have come a very long way in the last decade. My previous shoes were clunky, hot and uncomfortable. These are the exact opposite. On a trail, these stick to the ground like glue. I wear an 11 in everything, and that holds true for these as well. Waterproofing is fantastic, and yet it is very breathable and comfortable. Nice work Merrill!
