I needed a thicker sleeping bag for late fall/winter/early spring camping and this has done the trick. I’ve only used it a few times (with minimum temperatures around 25*F) but it seems to be exactly what I needed. It packs quite large, so I recommend it for car camping only. The zipper gets caught occasionally but is an easy fix when it happens. Overall, this bag is super cozy and I am content with this purchase.
Big and Bulky. Kept me warm in 40' weather but had to layer with a down rumple goose down to stay super cozy on top of fleece layers with a hat. Do not use if backpacking to a site. I got the regular length. At 5'3 it kept me cozy. Huge downside. I hate the zipper. It is impossible to zip up from inside my sleeping bag. A 4am necessary break turns into a disaster when I try to zip up. The fabric along the zipper is extra and catches in the zipper. Stop. Unwind. Zip, stuck again repeat. The only flawless way is if you're outside the bag and able to go straight on. Otherwise from an inside angle, catch, snag, repeat. Sigh.
My son took this sleeping bag to his winter Camporee for Boy Scouts. There’s a patch you can earn for camping in 32° or lower temperatures. The temperature reached 25° during one of their nights. I asked him how he slept and if the bag kept him warm and he said it worked great! He slept all night without waking, stayed warm, and appreciated the casual mummy style. He also said the thickness added a little extra smoosh. This is a bulky bag, but we specifically bought it for basecamp-type camping in cold weather. My ONLY quarrel is that the draw string on the carrying sack doesn’t hold its place very well so it comes loose very easily.
I’ve slept in and out of my truck for coming up on 7 years now. I picked this bag up at the beginning of the season just to have a back pocket option, and it’s been fantastic. If you run cold, you’ll feel chilly below 20 degrees with this bag, but if you’re like me and run warm, this thing can’t be beat for the price. I’ve slept in this thing between 0 degrees and 45 degrees and have always been very comfortable. If you can snag it on sale for 70 bucks there is NO BETTER OPTION at that price point. Pick this up for car camping, not backpacking, and you’ll be stoked you did.
I bought this bag to supplement my 20 degree REI Radiant bag and enable sleeping comfortably at colder temperatures. While the bag did keep me warm in sub 30 degree weather, it didn't keep me any warmer than the Radiant bag. There's also less room inside the bag to move around, so it's a little less comfortable. If this is going to be your only cold weather bag to use for car camping, it's a good bag for the price. But, if you already have a decent cold weather bag, this one probably isn't going to expand the conditions that you can sleep in much.
I did get to try this bag in 5 degree weather. Gladly i had a spare liner with me! (just a little cotton walmart liner) i was fine the majority of the night but around 3am i was freezing so i put the liner in (thermometer said it was 6 degrees at that time) i would suggest if you are using this below 20 to add a fleece liner and you will be super comfortable down to -10. Great bag for the price!!!
This is a great bag for car camping. I took it out in early December in Oregon, where the temperature dropped to 28* and I was actually hot in the middle of the night and had to unzip the bag. It’s a bit big and heavy to take backpacking, unless it was a very short hike in. But for car camping, I couldn’t ask for anything more, especially for the price.
Tested this bag in some 9°F weather car camping in a ski resort parking lot for 2 weeks. I felt comfortable that I wasn’t going to die of hypothermia but I started feeling cold once temps dipped below 23°. Shockingly odor resistant. Zipper gets stuck occasionally. However, for the price, this bag performed better than I expected. And I love the color. As a tall human, I could put the hood up with the long bag and still have enough room to move my arms by my sides.
I love the feel of sleeping this bag. It’s a mummy style but not claustrophobic feeling. Unfortunately, it will not keep you toasty warm to 5 degrees though. We camped at the Grand Canyon in March, with lows in the 20’s and I was pretty cold much of the night. I will be keeping this bag though, because I love it and we usually just summer camp.
I bought this bag for car camping knowing its a heavier bag. It also bulky even when in a compression sack. But I still might end up backpacking with it occasionally. The temps I used it in were below 20 degrees and I was very comfortable. I believe when I purchased this bag there was an XL version that I purchased and the extra room made it incredibly comfortable. I'm not a small guy and after owning several mummy bags I wanted this one to be spacious. Overall excellent value for the money.
