Waistband not tight enough
Waistband does not have very much elastic or strength. The tights need to be constantly adjusted by pulling them up to your waist. I have purchased many Pearl Izumi bike shorts over the years and they have always been a great mid-range option. They don't need much adjustment. However, the Quest Thermal Cycling Tights constantly come loose and need to be pulled up to prevent chafing and discomfort. I ended up getting some winter bibs (at 2x the price of the Pearl Izumi tights) to stay more comfortable. I will only use the Pearl Izumi tights during shorter commuting rides.
Sliders
No draw string. Big mistake. Nice and warm as they slither off your butt.
disappointing fit
Bought this in hopes they’d replace a pretty worn out pair of pearl izumi thermal bike tights but not sure they’ll be very useful because the fit is not good. Very tight on the calves: these are cycling tights, so you’d expect a lot more stretch on calves and a zippered closure, rather than a very tight fit that is hard to pull up high enough to get the chamois in the right places. Legs are also a much shorter inseam than on any other full leg winter cycling tights I’ve had, meaning that if I can get them on as high as needed to get the chamois correctly placed, they are mid-shin at the cuff. The chamois itself is nice, and the softness of the lining is nice. But then the waist is oddly less elasticky than it should be and ends up feeling like it is slipping, made worse by the complete absences of a drawstring. I know the amfib line is best for this kind of pant but this was a very disappointing purchase and one I regret.
Too tight!
I ordered these for cool/cold weather riding. They appear to be wonderful - well designed, nice material, well made. But... I ordered the Medium size and although the length and waist are just fine, the legs are so tight that I can barely squeeze into them. I am 6'1", 152 lbs (pretty skinny, but with cyclist legs). I will unfortunately be returning them.
Thick/Warm fabric and hip holster pockets
I have some PEARL iZUMi cold-weather cycling tights that I bought 10-15 years ago, and they're still in great shape. I'm planning to increase my winter riding this season, so I didn't hesitate to buy another pair. These seems to have an even thicker/warmer fabric than my existing tights, which will be great on those really cold days. The fit seems pretty consistent with my existing tights as well. The hip holster pockets are a nice modern addition for nutrition, keys, cell phone, etc.
Missing important features
The thermal stretch fabric is fine. The chamois is low quality and the waistband has no drawstring. No zipper at cuffs. Fits small even for PI.
Awesome fall and winter base pants
These pants replaced worn cycling thermal pants. They fit better and do a better job insulating. These are an excellent base pant for cold days. To be honest, I was tempted to get a second pair.
Pearl Izumi Thermal tights
I returned them because thet looked used. They had a spludge of some sort on the chamois
Good value.
Very warm and comfortable. They could use stronger elastic in the waistband, or a drawstring.
Size up!
Product is great, but do yourself a favor and buy 1 size larger. They are extremely tight.
