Great budget goretex pants..but

So I've been using this pant for skiing at Whistler 2 week now and here's my summary : very warm so be careful during spring skiing, the gortex hold up the waterproof well (not soaking yet). Very roomy too so it not skin to skin to your leg but plenty of room for movement like doing park tricks. However, I think it's quality control issue because I tried it on day 1 and there's a small hole of feather (rim of the pants area) coming out already!? I was quite surprised there's a flaw , I know this is decent price but I expect the QC from OR would be tight

These are SKI pants

As opposed to something more blousy for a snowboarder. Someone actually posted a critique that they were "narrow" in the legs, and as compared to (e.g.) Flylow Baker bibs the Tungsten pants are. That's what sold me on buying them, and I am glad I did. Frankly they are fitted perfectly for skiing - tele and alpine; they are warm, light in material weight, slide seamlessly over base layers, and are not overly long in the leg as compared to most ski pants. I also like my color choice (fatigue). I haven't spent any time sitting on snow or ice so the goretex remains untested, but I'll bet on the outcome. Well done, OR, well done.

Great pant!

I used this on an AIARE 1 course and it was great in the Steven's Pass area in Washington State in the first week of December. There was light precipitation and weather was in the mid 20s F. All I had on was these and 250 weight base layer pants. I was very warm and had no complaints. I was snowshoeing and I felt like I had a lot of mobility. I was even able to squat all the way down and not feel like the pants were going to rip when I did so. I usually wear 32x32 jeans, though I could wear 30x32, I usually like the looser fit. I got the Medium size and I feel like if I had large, I could have been fine in the waist, but would be too long in the legs. Overall a very good pair of pants!

So overall it's nice but... I've been using at Whistler for 2 weeks and here's my summary : very roomy for tons of movemt, it's warm too so great for winter skiing. Gortex hold up well.. However, I was surprised there's a hole that feather comes out already on week one of usage! I know this is not the most expensive ski pants but I thought the QC would be better

Hey Scott, It looks like you're already in conversation with our team and we're just waiting on a follow up from you. We'd be happy to send some tenacious tape your way to ensure feather leaks don't continue through that hole. -OR Customer Service

Strange fit

I have found the materials and finish to be top notch with these. The issue I have found is that the sizing seems a bit on the narrow side. They seem to fit like a skinny jean which is not what I was expecting with an insulated ski pant. The the legs are narrow which is ore aesthetic but the hips and waist are snug as well. The waist is on the smaller side of a medium but the hips seem like the fit would be better on a climbing pant. I ordered a set of Grand Ridge pants (32" waist) at the same time and the waist and hip on those is larger.

Would recommend!

Medium size fits well for 5'10" / 145lb male who sometimes skips leg day. Powder skirt fit snugly over size 11 double boa snowboard boot. Outer pant leg is barely wide enough to fit over binding's high back comfortably. Definitely not your standard "baggy snowboarder gear"-look. Without thermals: Warm down to 15-20F. With thermals: Only tested down to 0F windchill w/ 25mph winds. Still warm. Highly durable and waterproof even in wet snow conditions. Only used for resort skiing, so no backcountry opinion to offer.

Question the durability of material

First time out using these pants - at a ski resort - and absolutely loved everything about them until I was packing up my gear at the end of the day. I noticed a two inch tear in the butt area...all I did was ride the lift, zero wrecks, and can only assume the pants ripped on a piece of ice on the chair lift seat. I have at least a dozen pieces of OR gear and never experienced this. Warranty doesn't cover rips...yes I can/will repair with tape but am disappointed OR wouldn't cover a replacement in this instance.

Great Pant for Resort Skiing

After spending too much time being cold on chairlifts I decided to buy a pair of insulated ski pants. These are great and so far this season have worked in a variety of conditions; they have kept me warm in the teens with wind and also not overheated working hard in warmer temps. These are not sized as slim/athletic cut as many of OR mountaineering pants are (I normally wear a small but had to size up to medium for my Cirque pants), so my advice would to be only size up if you want extra room for layering.

My Favorite!

I picked-up the Tungsten Jacket and Pants at the beginning of this season and have skied about 200,000 vertical feet in them. This is the best alpine outerwear I've ever owned! Just the right amount of insulation, durable, waterproof, pockets and vents where you want them, and very comfortable. I've worn this kit in sub-zero temps, heavy snow, rain, and sunshine. I was comfortable and dry across a huge range of conditions. Highly recommended gear for alpine skiing!

Incredible

I actually got to test this in ski condition and winter warfare(wore it under my combat pants). It's not very insulated, so u may want to wear base layer and a mid layer to keep warmth during colder days when you're not moving around much. In terms of keeping things dry and ventilated during physical movements, top notch. The range of motion is bit lower than baggy pants, but it's expected from slim cut. Overall, very happy with the pants.
