I'm 5'8", 200 pounds, 35" waist, muscular build, and a large fits me well. The size chart is true to size. This jacket is great - it feels lightweight for the level of warmth, the mobility is great, the arms are long enough that I can raise them over my head and the cuffs don't ride up, the length in the back is long enough that the jacket doesn't ride up my back, and the powder skirt doesn't get in the way when I'm not using it. There's room to layer but the fit is still nice. The hood is large enough to fit over a helmet. The wrist closures are thin, they lay flat, and they fit under gauntlet gloves really well. The elastic-corded hems are well placed in the hood so you can adjust the hood so that it fits well, and the brim of the hood holds its shape well. Now the bads: The plastic clip on the back of the hood is designed to hook into a loop on the jacket back and keep the hood folded back for when you're not wearing a helmet, but the gap on the clip is so big that it doesn't work at all. When you hook the hood, if you move at all the clip just falls off the fabric loop. It just doesn't work. OR could fix this by redesigning the clip so so it's tighter on the loop, or pad the loop with batting between the fabric layers to make it fatter so it resists falling out of the clip. The inside baffle on the zipper has a tendency to fold over. Once creased, it tends to happen every time and you lose the benefit of the soft microfleece lining. OR can fix this by adding a small tab of velcro to hold the baffle in place on the inside of the jacket. The fact that I'm complaining about the hood clip and the creased baffle should tell you that this jacket is a pretty solid piece of gear. With these two changes it would be perfect. You should buy this jacket if you're going skiing or standing around when it's windy and cold. Possibly for snowmobiling. Don't buy this to go backpacking as there are better shells from OR for that. 8.5/10, worth the price.
First time riding since 2014 so I decided to shop around for a well-rounded jacket. Mountaineering is my thing so I knew that OR has amazing product(s), specially for outdoor-winter activities. This jacket met my expectations. The hard shell keeps the water & ice off you, very breathable, very warm as well. I was riding in 30 degree weather & I got very hot at one point, it has the zippers underneath the arms so I was able to cool my body down real quick. I’m 5’6 about 150 Lbs & the size Medium fits perfect. Not too long not too baggy, perfect for the slopes & simple design (which I love). Not a bad price ether .
I have had a lot of OR Jackets in the past and OR nailed this one! The fit is perfect for me at 5'9" 155 lbs in medium. It is warm with the insulation, but even on warmer days you can open the pit zips and cool down. The hood fits perfectly over my helmet. It has a pass pocket and plenty of other pockets for phone, etc. The inside mesh pocket is perfect for a small water bottle on cold days since it won't freeze when you don't want to wear a pack and not go inside due to COVID. I cannot say enough good things about this jacket and I am very hard on my equipment and usually always find a fault. So far none here.
My skiing experience has been dictated by the worn hand-me-downs I received from my brothers. When I tried on my brand new Outdoor Research jacket, I knew things were about go change. Now whenever I ski, my Outdoor Research jacket kicks the cold Out the Door. They clearly did their Research when they made this jacket. The inclusion of sleeve pockets makes RFID scanning a breeze, and the mesh-free pit zips are perfect for those bluebird days. Speaking of blue, the color of the jacket is bold and easy to identify. The adjustable hood makes it easy to cover your helmet on those white out pow days as well.
I have used this jacket primarily as a ski jacket and it's performed flawlessly in temperatures from 0-40 degrees. The pit zips allow you to thermoregulate on those warmer runs and the goretex provides a great barrier to the elements, especially wind. So good, I bought one for my wife and she loves it too.
I'm very impressed with this jacket, and with the warranty and customer support by Outdoor Research. I've been wearing an OR hardshell Axcess jacket for the past ~12 years, and just recently, the zipper attachment fabric failed. I contacted Outdoor Research and they covered the issue under warranty and gave me full credit toward a new jacket. Nice! Now that I have this Tungsten jacket, I can really tell OR has been improving their products over the past decade. This jacket feels much lighter, even though it is just as warm as my previous jacket. I also notice that this jacket's shell material feels more flexible and soft, which makes the jacket very comfortable to wear, and makes movement feel more free and unrestricted. Two thumbs up.
I really like almost everything about it. We hike in the PNW a lot and I wanted something waterproof and warm. The size Large fits great on me at 5' 10", 170lbs. The only real issue I have is the main front double-zipper, I struggle with it. Both getting it started to zip up and once I have zipped it down, I struggle getting both of the zipper heads to separate from the other side. It did get a little frustrating a couple times messing with it so much. It could very well be me and my ability to work said double-zipper in the first place though.
Can't say how nice this jacket is, it has everything you'd want and probably then some. The hood fits over my helmet well without restricting neck movement, it's loose enough for whatever and snug enough that you're not swimming in it. I always wear a size L, and I bought a size L, it fits perfectly. The only problem I can think of is the front zipper, it's a water-proof type so kind of hard to pull and get started. You really have to use bare hands to do it, gloves/mittens just don't give you the required fidelity to make it happen.
I love this new jacket from OR. I've been in the market for a new snowboarding jacket for a long time, and I finally pounced on this one. It's warm, it's comfortable, and has pockets in all the right places. I love the flap that Velcros across the top because it blocks wind/snow from your face without having to zip it all the way up. Having the resort pocket has also been nicer than expected, making it easy to scan your pass in line without getting mixed up with the person next to you. I haven't had a harsh rainy day to really give the gore-Tex a solid test, but I'm confident it will stand up to the challenge. As far as sizing, I typically wear a medium t-shirt and the small fits me very well. The sleeves are pretty long on me, but I could also have short arms; the cuffs don't make it much of an issue.
I picked-up the Tungsten Jacket and Pants at the beginning of this season and have skied about 200,000 vertical feet in them. This is the best alpine outerwear I've ever owned! Just the right amount of insulation, durable, waterproof, pockets and vents where you want them, and very comfortable. I've worn this kit in sub-zero temps, heavy snow, rain, and sunshine. I was comfortable and dry across a huge range of conditions. Highly recommended gear for alpine skiing!
