Great Stand! Makes Wheel Building a snap.
I bought this with my REI dividends. I usually use dividends for that "splurge" item. I wish I had bought this tool sooner! Well worth the purchase price. I have already built or overhauled 4 wheels. That more than pays for the purchase price. Don't worry if you've never laced, built or trued a wheel. I watched a number of YouTube videos (enough to become YouTube certified :-) and was able to lace up and build a great wheel the FIRST time. It's actually a rewarding experience. Don't wait to buy this great stand. And don't feel you need to buy the much more expensive stand from the blue brand. I love the blue brand but most of us don't need shop grade tools.
Why didn’t I buy this before?
I’ve built quite a few wheels and I’ve always done it in the frame (using tape with pencils to make a trueing stand). Finally I decided to try this. What a pleasure to use. I built old style quick release wheels (not thru- axle). It wasn’t obvious at first but I could mount these to the stand using my quick release mechanism. Funny to that the instructions don’t seem to point this out. The base was heavy enough that it was quite stable. Indicators are good, it is flexible as far as sizes of wheels. I just wish I had more wheels to build.
An Excellent Piece of Equipment
I love this stand! I am not a professional bike mechanic but I have four decades of home bike repair behind me, and last year I took a bike mechanics course at Barnett's. I have used the truing stand from Park Tools and I realize that every bike shop has the Park Tools Stand on their workbench - and I hate to go against the choice of professional bike-wrenches everywhere - BUT if I were to receive the Park's stand for free, I think I would still gravitate to this one from Feedback Sports. Here's why: 1. You really only need one point of contact to true a wheel. This stand can do lateral and radial trues, dishing, and disc brake trues with one screw, tire on-or-off (except for radial trues). 2. The adjustment on the rub indicator is finer than the one from Park - it's less jumpy when you are trying to nudge that tip to the rim for minimal contact. I think this is because the rub indicator is right on the end of the screw, not at the end of a caliper which is attached to a screw. 3. I can set the stand up anywhere. I can put it on the workbench, I can put it on the floor in front of the fireplace like I did last night, Heck I can set it out on the lawn and use it there if I felt like it. The base is heavy enough and stable enough that it does not need to be clamped to anything. It is well made. 4. I used the stand for lateral and radial truing right out of the box. 5. Even full price is a bargain, but like I said, if you gave me the Park stand stand for free, I think I'd still rather use this one. I have done many wheels with it since it arrived late last winter - everything from slight wobbles to moderate "potato chip" rims - and was able to quickly get them back to rolling perfection. It's a case where the less expensive stand is the better one.
Excellent Truing Stand
This is a simple and elegant truing stand. It is well made, versatile, and easy to use. The guide allows for radial and lateral truing with the added ability to tru disc rotors. The base is heavy enough to offer stability, but the unit can also be mounted on a bike repair stand. To check for proper dishing, simply reverse the wheel. This stand is compatible with thru axle wheels.
Great and affordable stand
Easy set up and able to adjust disc brakes and true wheel quickly.
