Picked up this jacket at the end of October and really happy with my purchase. This has been my "go-to" to anything from 40f down to active/hiking in 9f and it does it all well. The fit is definitely skinnier/trimmer which I like. I also like how the shoulders/arms are made of a denser/thicker nylon which appears to add more durability without adding weight or weird fitment. Overall this jacket is great--my only nitpick is that I feel OR cheaped out on the arm (wrist) cuffs. They're not super tight fitting or adjustable so depending on what type of gloves you have they might not create a windproof/snowproof fit.
The fit and style of the coat is great. It’s also very warm for its weight. The material is paper thin, however. Every time I wore it I was worried about touching or bumping into anything. We took it on a trip this winter and when I pulled it out of my bag there was a tear in the front. OR I ont cover tears under their warranty but they did offer to send a big black patch to stick on the front of the coat. If you’re planning to wear this out on the town, it’s probably fine but if you want to wear it as a daily coat or to actually do anything physical, give it a hard pass. For the price of t hi is coat the material is laughable
Keeps me warm in -5 to 5 C temps. It kept me dry in light drizzle. I like the lightweight feature of the jacket so it doesn't drag me down. It probably works best in dry conditions where you are not super active like a short walk or lounging about. It did keep some fierce wind out when walking near the ocean and the tightening feature of the hood helped keep the wind out. After the first wash though, I did notice some small feathers coming out and have noticed a feather sticking out from the back after about 10 or so times wearing it. If you can get this jacket with discounts I think it is worth it if you are looking for a lightweight puffy.
- I'm 6'1" 200 lb and have a football build, the Large fits me well. - I've had this jacket in 35 degree weather w/ 15-20 mph winds and felt comfortable with just a base and midlayer underneath. I would say the jacket is pretty windproof. - I love features of this jacket which separate it from other down jackets: the lined pockets, the added internal pockets, the waterproof/durable shoulders. All these things come in handy in the back country. -The one "downside" to this jacket is it's technical look. To me, its not a "fashion piece" that I would wear in public or use as a daily driver. But then again, that's not really what I bought it for.
I really like this coat, but since I think about a couple drawbacks every time I wear it, I feel like 3-stars is the right rating. I'd love to see the following improvements: 1. Velcro cuffs instead of the elastic rings. Longer cuffs. My wrists are always cold when I wear this coat. Would love velcro cuffs like on the alpine parka. 2. Higher coverage around the face, as in extended mouth and cheek coverage for those windy days when you want to tuck your face to stay warm. Overall really like the warmth and fit of the coat, and waterproof fabric on the shoulders and hood are sweet. Could see making a full insulated/waterproof coat out of that fabric.
This is a very comfortable and lightweight Hoodie/Jacket. I normally wear an XL, but have learned from past OR purchases to buy one size larger and this one was no different. The XXL fit perfect and on cold morning hikes, has been keeping me nice and toasty. The coldest weather I've been in so far has only been mid 40's, so I'm not sure how warm this thing really is. On a recent trip, I was able to stuff the whole coat into one of the inside pockets making it very packable into a small space. There are many roomy pockets to carry anything I need I do get a lot of compliments on it. I tell everyone "it's like wearing a down sleeping bag...but better"
Jacket is well made, warm, and cut fairly slim. However, the arms of the jacket are so wide that i could fit 2 (or maybe 3) of my arms in it. They look pretty ridiculous. I'm 6'1 and about 200 pounds and I bought a size large and the arms are just bafflingly wide. This also causes fabric to bunch unnecessarily where the arm meets the shoulder, in both the front and back, creating a rather sloppy fit there. In the body, it's slim without being tight and the perfect length. I compared it to a Mountain Hardwear ghostwhisperer and the arms are probably 3 inches wider. I just can't understand what exactly they hoped to achieve with that...
It's a great jacket and really warm for it's size.
I purchased this looking for a do it all mid layer/outer layer. This is it. It's a burly outer shell with fleece lined pockets. Hoot adjustment is fantastic. It's super packable and extremely lightweight, considering the outer material used. I absolutely recommend this for anyone looking for a do it all insulator, as long as you aren't overly preoccupied with a little bit of heft. Sizing is also spot on. I am 5'11" and around 145 lbs. I am always torn between medium and small. Medium was perfect, long arms and wide enough shoulders, not too girth around the middle. Spacious enough for layering but trim enough to wear around town.
This jacket is great, performs similarly to other high quality down jackets I have owned. It is light, pack up well, and is surprisingly durable. It does actually have a little bit of waterproofness as well. I've used it hunting, and it is not to bad for noise, which can sometimes be a problem for these jackets. The only complaint I have, which is not about performance, is the color. I have the silver/black one, and it is a bit shinier than I expected. I was hoping for a flatter color. I have seen the loden/black jacket as well, and that was a bit flatter, more to my liking. Overall, great jacket, great performance, just not the biggest fan of the color.
