I was shocked at how warm this jacket was! It not only kept me super warm on cold hiking days, completely blocked the wind, and generated heat!! By locking in your body heat, the jacket actually made me warmer the longer I wore it. Excellent quality and stylish! I’m 5’7”, 117 lbs with a slender build. The XS fit me perfectly in arm length and body. This jacket didn’t look or feel boxy. I’m really impressed with the performance and look.
Just used this jacket for fall camping in Wisconsin and it was the perfect campsite companion! I layered this jacket over a fleece and baselayer and was very toasty. I'm excited to test this in colder weather, but I was comfortable in 50s with little activity, mostly just sitting and reading. I ordered a S and the arms are a touch long, but I like that I can hide my hands in the sleeve. I'm 5'3", 123lbs, most of my weight is in my hip area. I was worried that the small would be too small in the hips and butt, but it actually worked out perfectly. I really love the color. Would recommend!
I'm still on the fence about this jacket. I bought it as an everyday jacket that could take me from around town to out on the trails and have been wearing pretty consistently it since I bought it and still don't quite know if i love it. Sizing: True to size (sleeves are a little long, so they'll scrunch up, but not a problem). The tapered look around the midsection is nice if you're looking for something a little more form fitting. Warmth: I've worn this in the variable PNW weather from the 40s through to windy 60s/70s doing a variety of activities. Haven't gotten a chance to try it in anything below 40. I tend to run cold and this jacket is quite warm. Although there are alot of seams, they don't let any wind through. You'll stay nice and cozy in this one. Breathability: The downside of it being nice and toasty is that it doesn't breathe very well. Its fine if you're around town or if its really cold but if you start doing any moderate/high output activity and start sweating the coat begins to stick to the skin, especially around the collar, and doesn't wick away moisture very well. Water Resistance: It performs well in a light rain. Water beads on the surface but soon the moisture begins seeping in and makes quite a humid environment inside. I'd wear it under a shell if it was a little less bulky. Great for a dry, cold day but keep it at home if rain is in the forecast. Packability:: Not incredibly pack-able. Tends to puff back up when compressed Other Things of Note: * There are a few itchy seams on the inside of the sleeves which are noticeable when wearing with any short sleeve shirts, but fine with a long sleeve or other base layer underneath. * The fabric seems pretty durable, no big seams to snag on branches or debris etc. * Washing- You do have to rinse the coat twice, it holds soap * There is a definite swishing noise when you walk, not horrible, but just of note PROS: - Warm! - Nice color (if you care about that) - Tapered/fitted body - Okay in light rain - Durable fabric, no external seams to catch on the trail - True to size CONS: - Not great moisture wicking - Not suitable for heavy rain - Too thick for under a shell - Itchy seams - Breathability is not great
Kept me warm on a 40 degree winter day with light wind just standing around outside. It's super comfortable and feels like a warm hug. The style is a little bit puffy, not ideal for using as a mid layer with a hardshell but by itself it's a great jacket for above 30-35 degree temps. I am 5'3'' and 125lbs, the small fits really well. I am thinking about buying the hooded version of this jacket as well. Outdoorgearlab has a great in-depth review of this jacket if you want to read more about it (I'm not affiliated with them but it's where I found out about this jacket).
Beautiful jacket! The wine color has a iridescent quality that is subtle. The cut is feminine and not baggy. Quality seems very high. Warm
I got the Avant Featherless and the regular Featherless jackets in size small to try both. I love the extra warmth of the Avant but the shoulders are a lot less roomy than the regular Featherless and the stand up collar is higher (I don't like it that high). May try the medium but they are usually too big. I wish the Avant sizing was the same as the regular Featherless.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After a lot of research for a highly-rated, down-free coat, I ordered the Avant Featherless Jacket. It looks nice, fits well, and I appreciate the numerous zippered pockets and the drawstring hem. Most importantly, however, I love that it is cruelty-free and I am blown away by just how incredibly warm the jacket keeps me, even with minimal layers underneath.
The jacket is great. However, my last Marmot jacket had a pocket zipper with tabs on both sides to close the pocket when the jacket was inside. This jacket does not. Also, the pocket is VERY big, meaning the jacket takes up much more room in my suitcase. So, not as good a travel jacket as before.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this jacket in a small gray/silver. I like the color. I’m 5 foot 3 inches, 122 pounds, size 4. It has a nice arm length and will still fit with a larger fleece /sweater under it. Not a jacket I will wear when it gets really cold, but great for travel and chilly fall days.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved this jacket as it was comfortable, lightweight and warm even in sub zero temperatures. Unfortunately, the zipper blew at the end of the first season which makes me really skeptical of getting another. Otherwise I would in a heartbeat, but one season isn't much for the price.
