Great Shorts
I bought these shorts a few weeks ago. Best shorts I've ever owned. Here are 3 reasons: 1. Slight stretch makes them ultracomfortable. A pleasure to wear. 2. You can wear them for several days and they still look good, Most shorts look wrinkled and "used" after a day of wear. 3. They are varsatile, appropriate at home, traveling, or in the mountains They are pricey, but I'm willing to pay the price for quality like this. I have since bought a second pair online. They were about $20 cheaper than what I paid in a store. I would recommend online shopping for best deal.

Material picks/pills
I am a prAna fan and own many of their products, unfortunately after 1 day hiking these short started picking/pilling on the left upper thigh area. My back pack did not hit this site, I'm really not sure what caused this. I will be returning these to REI.

Comfy, Light, Fitted but not incredibly durabable

I bought my pair last season and unlike my couple pairs of Kuhl shots, these just haven't held up. The fabric is softer for the most part and the stretch provides a nice mobile fit but my pair has snags here and there already... something I just haven't dealt with with my other pairs of shorts. Wish this weren't the case. They'd be a favorite otherwise. Very lightweight and comfortable, well fitted and true-to-size (easier to accomplish with a short than with a pant, especially for the Stretch Zion in my experience - I gave up trying to find a properly sized pant version), and just overall very nice and almost minimalism. Just wish they were more durable.

Great shorts but quality control is slipping...

I have 5 pairs of the shorts and 3 of the pants. Everything you read positive in these reviews is accurate, I love the product, but QC on the shorts is slipping over the course of the 1-2 years or so that I have purchased them. I have one pair of shorts that has severe pilling of the material, all the others are holding up excellently. I believe this is contained to the color which has been discontinued. My bigger grip though is with cut. The sizing is not consistent as has been mentioned on another review. One pair I received was a solid size down and when laid next to another pair was measurable 2" or so narrower when laid flat and had to be returned. Another pair are almost as long as a 12" length pair (which I purchased to replace) and again when laid flat over others is almost 2" longer.

Almost perfect

These shorts are so comfy, and rugged, with really slick, slim fit styling, that they’d be my favorite shorts of all time, and get a 5 star review across the boards if they came in shorter inseam options like 8, or even better 6... As it stands I still rock em even though they make me look like it’s 2005, or I’m someone’s stylish dad, simply because they feel great, and stand up to abuse.

not made for short torso people

Got these to replace my vintage REI Sahara shorts (I don't care for the new ones). Loved the feel of the Prana Zions but man, these are made for peeps with long torsos or something. I have to pull the shorts to just a little under my belly button to not have the crotch hang all low and be saggy. Even those with longer torsos, who wants to wear pants that high ( It's style now). And reality is that even if you pull them up that high and tighten the waist strap, they will sag down during activity and then the crotch will be hanging all low and restrict leg mobility.

Best shorts I've owned

I bought these shorts for an overseas trip and they were used as my primary pair. They have stretch fabric which makes them very comfortable to wear (but not too stretchy). The length is about right over the knee. The zip pockets have two zippers so that you can access while standing up or sitting down. The waist liner is a felt-like material so they stay up when moving around. There is an integrated belt in case you forget to put one on. And they look great; great color, great style and great fit. I've purchased two pair and have been very happy with them.

The best pants make the best shorts

If you have worn prAna Zion pants then you will love these shorts. If you have never worn the pants then you are missing out. I have never posted a review for anything before, but these shorts are so good I just had to share. I have faithfully worn the Zion pants for several years with complete satisfaction, but just never thought to get them as shorts. They are the perfect blend of stretch and strength, fashion and function. Excellent for actually hiking in Zion or just lounging around the house. I have already stocked up on the Gravel Camo color!

Awesome shorts for every activity. I highly recommend them!

These are the shorts you've been searching for! The material is super durable but has enough stretch for a great fit and freedom of movement during more demanding adventures. Great for hiking, climbing, going around town, or anything in between. Great features including a zippered cargo pocket, waist strap for adjustability without requiring a belt, and a secure back pocket for keeping your wallet secure yet accessible. I purchased the 10" inseam and am very satisfied with the length. I did try on the 12" inseam as well and both options are great depending on your preference. The 10" hits right at the top of my knee, the 12" right below. Great shorts!

For climbers, not hikers

This style was strongly recommended by the associate at the store, but they were out of stock, so I gave it another chance online. Alas, I had to return it. The dual zip cargo pocket is cool, but too small for my plus-size iPhone. The other features are about equal hits and misses. The front pockets are plenty deep, but the back pockets need buttons or zips. The "full range of motion" fit is weird for ordinary activities. The waistband adjustment is neat beltless, but uncomfortable if you wear a belt. Construction appears to be quite sturdy, but the front buttonhole is too small for its button.
