I have had this for over a year and it has accompanied me on a number of long runs, which it is absolutely perfect for. Lots of pockets and places to store everything you need for a half marathon distance to a 12 hour trail run. The zips on the side pockets have become stiff, hard to open so I guess it's time to oil them up? I haven't managed to figure out how to secure my poles to it without them rattling around our poking me in the face!!! It would be really useful if Salomon provided a couple of pole placement options for people new to using them. The flasks that came with mine take up to 450ml each if full. The straws are very long, I might shorten them!
Love this vest. I’ve tried quite a few with front flasks and either they weigh me down in the front, create chaffing or just bounce way too much. I’ve finally found one that works for me and this is it. It’s so comfortable and versatile with a ton of easily accessible storage! And for those complaining about the length of the flask tubes, either cut them or tuck them into the top pocket slits as pictured. You can still stash something else in them too, like a gel. No biggie!
I bought 7 different vests and tried them all on. This is by far the best for women!!! I’m 5’10 and 135lbs. I ended up getting a small and it’s perfect. The position of the bottles under your boobs is perfect. You need to get the air out of the bottles when you fill them so they don’t slosh around. The best stays put and is literally part of your body. It doesn’t move. There’s a back pocket to put a 1.5L camelback too or your long sleeve shirt. I literally can’t recommend this enough. Play with the sizes but once you figure it out it’s incredible. I just ran 17 miles today with it and i couldn’t be happier.
I wanted to love this pack but it's caused me more issues than reasonable. First, the mesh on the back is so thick that it causes me to overheat easily and traps a lot of sweat in the back, and I've not experienced this with Osprey Dyna 6 or Nathan Vaporhowe. Second, the vest has ruined every shirt I've worn with it, causing major pilling on the sides, back and chest. Last, the front bladders are really weird. I don't like the functionality where there are 2 connection/disconnection features. The straw connection point doesn't lock into place easily and have twisted open and poured out several ounces of water all over me. The straws come longer than they need to be and were not very easy to cut shorter as many recommended. Sizing is also really weird on this vest. Based on the size guidelines, I would be a small. The small rode up into my armpits and it was so uncomfortable. So I went up to a medium, it solved the armpit issue but then it was pretty big in the ribcage and on the tightest adjustment it still felt loose. The only thing I like about this vest are the material and size of the front pockets and side ribcage pockets. They can fit a ton into them and all the nutrition, car keys, cell phone, sunglasses and more feels secure!
I purchased this pack after I got a Salomon unisex pack and it felt so long and bulky. I use the large on only for really long hikes. This pack is perfect aside from the straws. If you leave them out; they hit you in the face but if you tuck them in to the sides of the bag sometimes your drink will squirt out and you have a sticky bag. I purchased a small at first but it felt really tight on my shoulders. I got a medium and now it feels a little too big. I am glad I have the medium though b/c when I put a hydration bag in the back it doesn't feel so tight on my shoulders. I am 5'7" ~132lbs
Been trying out this ADVANCED SKIN 8 SET all week. I had only been using a handheld water bottle, which is simply not enough for longer runs, especially in this Virginia heat & humidity (I live in Portland, OR but I’m visiting my parents). At first I was perplexed by the long straws that near go up to my ears and was going to cut them...but I decided to experiment first, and am SO glad I did! The straws easily tuck in the straps and I wouldn’t want them shorter than they are. It is possible to cut them though, you can remove the mouth piece to do it. Probably easier to cut it out vs pull it off first. There is room to stow snacks and even my phone. There is even an area in the back for an additional bladder bag if needed. You could probably store a light layer in there as well (or instead of). It is a little hotter wearing this than not but not too bad. The bottles only leaked when I realized I didn’t screw the top on tight enough. I originally got an XS, which is typically what I wear in shirts and I’m only 5’2. However, I’m broad shouldered and it was too tight and definitely would not have fit over a layer. I got a small and it’s perfect! The xs is going back. It was at a much lower price than the other sizes at the time I bought it so it’s a great deal if xs fits you! I really like the way the straps are verses clip type. I noticed the clip types rub on clothing and create pulls. Who wants to ruin a brand new running shirts?! Not me!
For context: I've run a bunch of 50km, 2 50-milers, and I'm training for my first 100. I trail run (Sat) up to 25 miles, (Sun) up to 15 miles about every weekend. Ok, as others already noted again and again, this vest has a weird fit. I got both the XS and S. For perspective, I'm 5'5", 125 lbs, 34" chest. The XS was way too tight in the armpits and the S was too big in the chest. I was willing to deal with cinching down the S vest because I really (really) like the storage on this vest - so many easily accessible pockets. I use a VaporHowe 4L right now and I wanted something that can hold more stuff that is easily accessible. This definitely fits the bill. The side zippered pockets and the generous front pockets (beside those for flasks) are awesome. I also really like the webbing loops on the front, the elastic straps that keep the flasks from sagging as they empty, and, well, everything. The kicker for me were the vest-specific flasks and matching holsters. They are oddly shaped, which makes the flasks ride well. But I can't put my 20oz flasks in the holsters. I also worry a bit about getting replacements when these go bad, since they aren't standard. The final straw was the size of the flask opening - it's like the diameter of a quarter. I'd have to carry a funnel to refill anywhere but my kitchen. What a drag. For me, this vest is 90% there. But the 10% that I don't like was too much to keep it.
Before getting this, I had experienced horrible shoulder/neck chafing with a competitor. The full coverage of this vest provides amazing comfort and no rubbing. Material is soft and there are more pocketa than one could ask for. Only thing is the size does run small, I realized if straw tips were to my ear lobes that it meant it was too small. I recommend going up a size if you are between. Also the material does hold sweat odor just like your shirt so you have to make sure to always wash it. It hand washes and dries really well. I recommend this vest especially for larger bust athletes. I love this product.
I LOVE this pack. I have used it for all length of adventures: from 10 city mile long runs to 20 mile mountain traverses, this thing carries exactly what I need and is nice and compact if it's less full. There's plenty of room for at least 2 liters of water, food, and layers PLUS you get all the front pockets for additional storage. It fits snugly over all layers and stays put on my chest. I will never switch to another pack after this one.
I bought this hydration pack for its female specific features and it hasn’t disappointed! You can’t feel your carrying any water pouches as they contour the vest lying flat against you. The wide pouches as well as additional long straws that are self positioning I might add - are incredibly useful! So many pockets!! The pack itself feels like a second skin - with fool proof clips to clip-up and un-clip plus an easy adjustment system too - allowing for layers to be changed at speed and with ease. I would say when I ordered red for it to be red and not a salmon/peach colour hmmm, but hey ho it is after all a Salomon ‘salmon’ product and looks super cool over my black tops and jacket.
