Bombproof dry bag backpack.
Superlative product. I use this bag as my commuter bag when riding my motorcycle to work. I have a 60 mile round trip commute to work. This bag has kept my delicate electronic gear bone dry during hurricane season in central Florida. Simple construction adds to the very light weight of the bag, making it very comfortable.
Great rainproof laptop protection
This bag is a great solution to waterproofing - one rolltop and everything stays dry. The laptop sleeve is as big as it says (holds a 16-inch MBP just fine) and it's just enough space for lunch and a change of clothes. Back ventilation works well. Glad I got the 23L...not sure the 17L would hold a typical commuter's gear.
Not a fan of the velcro
I bought this for a trip to Nepal after my previous Ortlieb commuter backpack broke after 8 years of use. While the backpack itself is pretty nice, the velcro was immediately frustrating. I did pack it pretty full, but it kept popping open. This was really frustrating! I miss my old backpack and want to return this version. If you don't plan on overpacking, it is a decent option, but if you're like me, this version doesn't live up to my expectations.
Velcro Fails
The velcro failed on my bag. Wouldn't recommend it.
Great for Zion!
I took this backpack to the Narrows @ Zion. It kept everything of mine completely dry & it was quite comfortable. Highly recommend!
Wrong Size - great product overall.
I ordered the 23L but received the 17L instead. I reached out to them via email, but I didn’t get a response, so I had to go in person. The product is great overall and I use it for the office and when I go biking. It has a compartment to fit a 15 inch laptop and plenty of extra space. It’s pretty minimal, but it’s all I need.
Wrong Size
It’s a nice, simple backpack that’s great for everyday commute. Unfortunately, I got sent the 17L despite ordering the 23L. I’m going to have to return it.
Mine came with the lap top liner missing!
Lap top liner was missing from inside the bag! For $150, that's pitiful!
Great for travel, 23L > 17L
I grabbed this bag for an upcoming trip after eyeing it for a while and I'm so glad I did. I went with the 23L after being unsure if it would be ~too big~ for me (I'm 5'5" and 120lbs and don't typically wear backpacks) but the 17L would have been far too small. The 17L is more of a daypack if you're just commuting to work and need a small backpack for comfort, but I don't recommend that size for travel. I love that it has an internal laptop case (which can be removed). I was unsure if I'd like the Velco but it's incredibly secure. If you are completely anti Velcro I'd check out the Filson dry backpack. Similar style but it has a clip rather than velcro. I don't think Filson comes with the same generous 5-year warranty and cyclist adoration that Ortlieb comes with so do with that information what you will. I also was not sure if I'd like the lack of extra pockets on the inside or outside - but I also am into the minimal design. Especially for international travel, I don't have to worry about this bag getting pickpocketed. It also feels comfortable to wear and stands up when you take it off and need to open it, just an extra feature that feels really nice rather than a bag that goes slack and falls over.
