Different. Not bad, just different!
I think some folks are being way too hard on these silk bottoms!! They don't look pretty after some use, but they don't fall apart either and despite a few runs and snags are pretty resilient for how lightweight they are. If you're used to wearing synthetic under-layers, be aware that these are much thinner in comparison, aren't meant to fit skin tight, and are fairly see-through (and therefore cannot double as bottoms on their own). Because they're so lightweight, you can easily fit them under pretty tight pants/jeans without creating much of a difference in fit or appearance. I find that they breathe much better than synthetics and I simply prefer the feel of them, though I will still reach for my synthetics for very cold weather. I purchased an XS and wear a size 0-2, and they fit great.

The same, only different
I am a bit dismayed to find my usual (same size, same color, same style) item I have bought for many years very different. The waistline elastic used to be stitched into the fabric; suddenly the waistline is a "casing" with the elastic inside it. No mention of these design changes were listed in the description. The waist size is much looser than before, making it more comfortable when new, but I have a feeling it will stretch out and become too loose and baggy before I wear the item out. Since I have not reached that point yet in wear, "the jury is out", and I am only giving it 3 stars, whereas your former silk bottoms would have rated 5 stars. Newer is not always better. Caveat emptor.

The ONLY silk underwear on the market of quality

After the demise of Wintersilks, poor quality of Terramar & LandsEnd, I feel like these underwear are practically a miracle. The filament silk is light but very tightly woven to prevent snags. The gusset gives a great fit. The waistband is wide and very smooth (bo digging into waist). I am 5’ 5” and weigh 128-132 pounds my waist is 27-28” and my hips 38. The medium fits perfectly; I ordered both large and medium because I hate waistbands that cut into my skin. The large was definitely for someone much larger than me. The medium is perfect. Thank you!!! So much for making this product. I was getting desperate.

Excellent for travel - base layer AND pajamas!

I cannot wear wool and am always searching for the ideal base layer to keep me warm without bulk. These are perfect. They are shockingly warm yet invisible under "regular" clothes and have a great side benefit for me: They are perfect for travel. They take almost no space in a suitcase and dry quickly after a quick wash in a hotel sink. I use them not only as a base layer but also as pajamas and yoga wear (hotel room only! Too see through for public use). I travel with two pair; one to wear and one to wash.

Soft and Cozy

I am allergic to even the smallest amount of wool so a non-wool base layer is so important to me! These wouldn't be enough for a super cold day, but they are perfect for under jeans when you want to go out at night and stay warm. I also wore them under sweatpants when it was 20 degrees during the day and under a dress to go for walk when it was in the low 50s. They are delicate, but it's silk so that's expected (and not so delicate that you're worried you're going to rip them). They are so so comfy. They are see through (like pantyhose).

Lightweight warmth

These silk long underwear add a surprising amount of warmth for their minimal weight. I've worn them on a couple fall hikes in Alaska. They fit well under even form fitting hiking pants and added warmth without bulk. They are woven loosely, making them rather see-through, so don't plan on wearing them alone in public. I don't see that as a problem, rather just part of the design buyers should know about.

Came Damaged & Run Big

These run bigger than the sizing guide. I ordered the smalls and they were way too loose around my 28" waist. They are silk, but not a good quality silk. They also has a run in them when they arrived. I was excited to have a base layer to wear for winter hiking & outdoor distance hangouts but these are not gonna cut it.

Meh

These fit and looked nice for all of a month. Now the ankle area is stretched out and the silk has several runs in it like a pair of old pantyhose. The only thing good I have to say is they give a nice added layer that isn't too thick if you are wearing skinny jeans and need a little extra warmth without the bulk.

shocked

Honestly I was shocked to see such a low quality textile come from REI - the pilling after just one wear is terrible. Even in-store, over the weekend, I noticed some Silk base layer pieces still on the rack with lots of pilling. REI: Make a better silk base layer and I'll buy every piece in every colorway!! :(

Warm inner layer--great!

Very warm but be aware these are not cut like leggings. I ordered side small and they are a bit baggy but still warm. The wide waistband is nice as it stays put. Length is just fine. Make sure if you want to wear them under other pants that there would be room to get these silks under them without too much trouble. There are not suitable, really, for wearing as an only pant.
